In 2023, around ** percent of respondents aged 19 years and older have sent a sext in the United States, whilst around ** percent has recieved a sext. While the share of people who have recieved and sent sexts has increased, especially since 2014, the share of people who have shared sexts has stayed relatively stable, at around ** percent.
According to a 2022 survey of online users in the United States, sexting is more prevalent among Millennials than any other age group. Almost four out of every 10 Millennials reported sending a sexually explicit image to someone they were dating. In comparison, 20 percent of gen Z users reported engaging in sexting. The Baby Boomer generation reported the lowest percentage of individuals who said they sent sexually explicit images or messages to someone they were dating, with only five percent of respondents reporting having done so.
In a survey conducted in Australia in 2021, the majority, close to ** percent, of young respondents aged 14 to 18 years reported that they had engaged in digital sexual practices or 'sexting'. Over ** percent of respondents reported that they had received sexual texts.
