    Description

Children are all persons under the age of 18 years. 'Own children' in a family are sons and daughters, including stepchildren and adopted children, of the householder. 'Single-parent family' means only one parent is present in the home, and is never-married, widowed, divorced, or married, spouse absent. This data originates from the American Community Survey (ACS) 5-Year estimates, table B11003. The ACS collects these data from a sample of households on a rolling monthly basis. ACS aggregates samples into one-, three-, or five-year periods. Geography

    Description

The question addressed in this study was the degree to which gender-specific behavior is a result of socialization versus current role demands and situational opportunities. Researchers were interested in whether or not men develop traditionally female parenting styles appropriate to situational exigencies. Fifty-five single fathers whose youngest child was under 14 and living at home were surveyed, as well as comparison groups of 55 single mothers, 55 traditional couples in which the husband was the bread winner and the wife was not employed outside the home, and 55 dual paycheck couples. In order to standardize the responses, the questionnaire asked respondents about the relationship with their youngest child. Data were collected by means of an anonymous questionnaire. The questionnaire included sections on the parent's personal priorities, sex-role identification, personality traits, assessment of the parent-child relationship, and items regarding domestic responsibilities and child care. The Murray Research Archive holds numeric file data for the single and married parents surveyed. Data are available for all 110 single parents, all 110 married couples, and an additional 19 single mothers and 93 single fathers who did not meet selection criteria.

    Description

The Families and Households data from the 2021 Federal Census covers household, household size, census family, and marital status. For questions, please contact socialresearch@calgary.ca. Please visit Data about Calgary's population for more information.

Household refers to a person or group of persons who occupy the same dwelling and do not have a usual place of residence elsewhere in Canada or abroad. The dwelling may be either a collective dwelling or a private dwelling. The household may consist of a family group such as a census family, of two or more families sharing a dwelling, of a group of unrelated persons or of a person living alone. Household members who are temporarily absent on reference day are considered part of their usual household.

Household size refers to the number of persons in a private household.

Census family refers to a married couple and the children, if any, of either and/or both spouses; a couple living common law and the children, if any, of either and/or both partners; or a parent of any marital status in a one‑parent family with at least one child living in the same dwelling and that child or those children. All members of a particular census family live in the same dwelling.

Children may be biological or adopted children regardless of their age or marital status as long as they live in the dwelling and do not have their own married spouse, common‑law partner or child living in the dwelling. Grandchildren living with their grandparent(s) but with no parents present also constitute a census family.

One-parent refers to mothers or fathers, with no married spouse or common-law partner present, living in a dwelling with one or more children.

Marital status refers to whether or not a person is living in a common‑law union as well as the legal marital status of those who are not living in a common‑law union. All persons aged less than 15 are considered as never married and not living common law. Possible marital statuses are: Common-law, Divorced, Married, Separated, Single, and Widowed.

This is a one-time load of Statistics Canada federal census data from 2021 applied to the Communities, Wards, and City geographical boundaries current as of 2022 (so they will likely not match the current year's boundaries). Update frequency is every 5 years. Data Steward: Business Unit Community Strategies (Demographics and Evaluation). This dataset is for general public and internal City business groups.

In most tables, the term 'lone-parent household' is used to describe a household that comprises a lone parent family and no other person. In the alternative household type variable, a lone-parent household is defined as a household that contains at least one lone-parent family but does not contain any married, same-sex civil partnership or cohabiting couples.

A count of the dependent children living in a household. A dependent child is a person aged 0 to 15 in a household (whether or not in a family) or aged 16 to 18 in full-time education and living in a family with his or her parent(s) or grandparent(s). It does not include any children who have a spouse, partner or child living in the household.

    Description

ObjectiveParentage analysis is a routine methodology in fisheries research, but study systems exist where it is impractical to sample both parents. The ability to reliably assign offspring to a single parent is beneficial in these situations. We apply single-parentage assignments to a naturally spawning population of Chinook Salmon Oncorhynchus tshawytscha to quantify production of anadromous returns by unsampled precocial males. Methods We use an approach that addresses two important aspects of parentage analyses: 1.) addressing the presence of family structure within the sampled parents and 2.) controlling for false-positive and false-negative assignments. Result Results indicate that 30% of reproductively successful males were precocials which produced 20% of the returning anadromous offspring. Conclusion This study provides a framework for applying single-parent assignments in a salmonid study system while explicitly addressing sources of assignment errors., , , # Single Parentage in Chinook Salmon

Description of the data and file structure

This dataset contains genotypes for the Chinook salmon study system analyzed for single parentage. It contains one collection of parents (OtsPAHS12S) and six collections of potential offspring that could have possibly originated from these parents. The six collections of offspring include (OtsPAHS15S, OtsPAHS16S, OtsPAHS17S) which are fish sampled at the Pahsimeroi weir and then passed above the weir and (OtsPAHH15S, OtsPAHH16S, OtsPAHH16S) which are fish sampled at the Pahsimeroi weir and then used in the Pahsimeroi broodstock. Offspring of interest in this study could be found in either scenario. Offspring returned as 3, 4, or 5-year-olds and the collections reflect this timing.

Additional data include: 'Sample date' and 'Marks'. The 'Marks' data indicate whether a fish was ad-clipped (AD) or ad-intact (AI). Missing meta-data in these fields are denoted with 'N/A'.

    Description

Since 1960, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has provided estimates of expenditures on children from birth through age 17. This technical report presents the most recent estimates for married- couple and single-parent families using data from the 2011-15 Consumer Expenditure Survey (all data presented in 2015 dollars). Data and methods used in calculating annual child-rearing expenses are described. Estimates are provided for married-couple and single-parent families with two children for major components of the budget by age of child, family income, and region of residence. For the overall United States, annual child-rearing expense estimates ranged between $12,350 and $13,900 for a child in a two-child, married-couple family in the middle-income group. Adjustment factors for households with less than or greater than two children are also provided. Expenses vary considerably by household income level, region, and composition, emphasizing that a single estimate may not be applicable to all families. Results of this study may be of use in developing State child support and foster care guidelines, as well as public health and family-centered educational programs. i

Geography
