    Description

Italy edged ahead of Spain to be the world’s top exporter of wine in 2024. The country shipped 21.7 million hectoliters of the beverage in that year, compared to Spain's 20 million and France’s 12.8 million. 2024 saw a dip in wine production worldwide compared to 2023. Overall, 226 million hectoliters of wine were produced in 2024 compared to 237 million in 2023. Spanish wine Despite having the most area of land utilized for wine production in the world, Spain is the third overall wine producer by volume. In 2024, the country produced 31 million hectoliters, compared to production leader Italy’s 44. This discrepancy is due, at least in part, to the low yields of Spanish vines which are often planted in relatively dry and infertile soil. Imports Of the top three exporters, only France ranks in the top five of wine importing countries, receiving 5.4 million hectoliters, at a value of 880 million euros in 2024.

    Description

Wineries have endured a dynamic shift as they navigate economic complexities and evolving consumer preferences. Recent market conditions, marked by trade tensions and fluctuating economic indicators, have required wineries to adapt quickly. Imposing tariffs on key materials, such as glass bottles from China, has placed additional cost pressures on producers, prompting a shift towards domestic suppliers to mitigate expenses. This has been compounded by increasing competition from both domestic breweries and international wine producers, making brand differentiation and competitive pricing more crucial than ever. Despite these challenges, revenue has been climbing at a CAGR of 6.7% over the past five years. It's expected to jump 1.0% in 2025 alone, reaching $33.4 billion in 2025. Over the past five years, wineries have faced challenges and opportunities. Fluctuating input costs and competitive pressure from alternative alcoholic beverages proliferated. Despite these hurdles, the industry has maintained a steady trajectory. Much of this growth can be attributed to the resilience of local wineries that have strengthened their community engagement and optimized their operations to adapt to economic pressures. These wineries have focused on building strong local consumer bases, leveraging unique US varietals and experiences to maintain a competitive edge against international brands. By reducing labor costs and navigating input price complexities, producers managed to stabilize profit by 2025. The weakening dollar is expected to make US wines more attractive internationally over the next five years, potentially boosting export sales and expanding global market presence. Domestically, as imported wines become pricier, local producers have an opening to capture more market share by offering competitively priced alternatives. However, ongoing trade tensions and tariffs could continue to impact input costs, necessitating strategic supply chain adjustments. Advances in packaging and distribution, such as using lighter materials to lower shipping costs, might offset some financial pressures. Despite the uncertainties in growing conditions resulting from climate change, the industry's revenue is forecast to expand at a CAGR of 2.2% over the next five years, reaching $37.2 billion in 2030.

    Description

The Global Wine Manufacturing industry is projected to experience moderate growth as a result of disparate global trends. The industry's performance relies on consumer trends and, therefore, on variables affecting consumer decisions. Many countries traditionally associated with wine consumption have been consuming less wine, while countries traditionally associated with beer consumption have consumed more wine. As a result, global consumption has grown modestly in recent years. Growth in consumption levels in important markets, like the United States, has fueled a large share of the industry's expansion. Industry revenue has grown at a CAGR of 0.2% over the past five years and is expected to reach $372.0 billion in 2024. This includes forecast growth of 1.1% in 2024 alone. Many variables impact wine consumption in each country. Countries like France and Italy have experienced higher consumption levels of close substitutes, like beer, particularly in younger generations. The opposite is true for the United States, the UK and Germany, where wine has improved its share of total alcohol consumption. China has been a growing wine market, where consumption of wine and alcohol in general, has been increasing. This has resulted from cultural shifts in younger Chinese adults and the accessibility of imported wine. New world wines, like those from South America, Oceania and Africa, have increased in global popularity and have generated higher levels of global competition, which has depressed global wine prices. Despite declining wine prices, international trade has remained a stable share of global production. Ultimately, the dip in wine price, combined with higher purchase costs, has hurt profit. Consumption trends will remain relatively stable moving forward. The global industry will expand as the Chinese wine industry leads growth. Meanwhile, the US industry grows more slowly and European countries endure stiff competition from less expensive varieties. The global presence of New World wines will likely increase to support growing demand in Asia and continue to compete with premium European wines. As a result, industry revenue is anticipated to expand at a CAGR of 1.7% over the five years to 2029 to $405.1 billion.

    Description

The UK wine industry has exceled over the last five years with the number of UK vineyards increasing over the last five years. However, the industry has faced recent obstacles due to poor weather harvests caused by wetter-than-normal summers. The BBC labelled the 2024 summer as the coolest since 2015, hindering production for wine producers in the UK. Although the wine industry has faced challenges due to poor weather harvest in 2024-25, it has been boosted by a steady economic recovery thanks to increased consumer confidence. This has boosted spending from the on-trade segment as individuals have splurged more on wine at pubs and bars. Revenue is set to swell at a compound annual rate of 3.5% over the five years through 2024-25 to £422.4 million, including an estimated hike of 5.3% in the current year. However, poor weather harvests will impact many producers who rely on British grapes. The failure to relieve the tax duty by the Labour Government in the autumn budget in October 2024 creates obstacles to growth and profit for businesses. Revenue is slated to swell at a compound annual rate of 4.6% over the five years through 2029-30 to £528.4 million. UK winemakers are set to accelerate investment in vineyard capacity to align the supply of British bubbly with rapidly growing domestic and overseas demand. However, production volatility due to a poor weather harvest in the summer of 2024 will require innovative methods for wine producers to wade through this. To build resilience, wine producers are set to invest in technology, develop robust grape varieties and improve storage practices.

    Description

The global dry wine market is a dynamic and substantial sector, experiencing consistent growth driven by several key factors. Increased consumer preference for healthier alcoholic beverages, coupled with the rising disposable incomes in emerging economies, fuels significant demand. The growing popularity of wine tourism and sophisticated marketing campaigns promoting wine's versatility in culinary pairings further contribute to market expansion. Premiumization trends are also evident, with consumers increasingly seeking out higher-quality, more expensive wines, which impacts the overall market value. While the market faces challenges, including fluctuating grape yields due to climate change and increased competition from other alcoholic beverages, these challenges are being addressed by innovative winemaking techniques, sustainable farming practices, and targeted marketing strategies focused on specific demographic groups. We estimate the 2025 market size to be around $150 billion, based on a conservative estimate considering the global alcoholic beverage market and the significant share held by wine. Assuming a moderate CAGR of 5%, we project a market value of approximately $200 billion by 2033. Key players are focusing on brand building, strategic acquisitions, and diversification into different wine styles to maintain competitive edge. The dry wine market is segmented by type (red, white, rosé), price point (economy, mid-range, premium), and distribution channel (on-premise, off-premise). Regional variations in consumption patterns are significant, with North America and Europe remaining dominant markets, while Asia-Pacific shows promising growth potential. The competitive landscape is highly fragmented, with both large multinational corporations and smaller, boutique wineries vying for market share. The leading companies, including E&J Gallo Winery, Constellation Brands, and Treasury Wine Estates, are adopting strategies focused on product innovation, expansion into new markets, and sustainable practices to ensure long-term growth. This ongoing evolution ensures a vibrant and exciting future for the dry wine industry, driven by both established players and emerging brands.

    Description

The U.S. wine industry, a significant player in the global beverage market, exhibits consistent growth driven by several key factors. The market's compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 1.47% from 2019 to 2024 indicates a steady expansion, projected to continue into the forecast period (2025-2033). This growth is fueled by increasing consumer disposable incomes, a rising preference for premium wine varieties, and a growing wine-drinking culture, particularly among millennials and Gen Z. The popularity of wine tourism and the expanding online retail channels further contribute to market expansion. While specific market size figures for individual years are not provided, considering the CAGR and a reasonable assumption of market size in 2024, we can estimate substantial growth. Segmentation analysis reveals the significant role of still wine in the overall market, with red wine holding a considerable share within the color segment. The off-trade channel, encompassing supermarkets, hypermarkets, and specialty stores, dominates distribution, highlighting the importance of retail partnerships for wine producers. However, online retail is emerging as a powerful channel, promising substantial future growth. Despite this positive outlook, the industry faces challenges. Competition from other alcoholic beverages, fluctuating grape harvests due to climatic variations, and escalating production costs act as potential restraints. The industry needs to focus on innovative marketing strategies, embracing sustainable practices, and developing new product offerings catering to evolving consumer preferences to maintain growth momentum. The leading companies – E & J Gallo Winery, Constellation Brands Inc., and others – play a crucial role in shaping market trends, with their strategies influencing overall industry direction. The geographic focus on the U.S. market allows for a deep dive into specific consumer trends and regional preferences, informing future marketing and product development decisions. Continued investment in research and development, coupled with an understanding of the evolving consumer landscape, will be critical for future success in the U.S. wine market. Recent developments include: March 2022: Meiomi Wines announced the release of the Red Blend, adding another flavor sourced from Meiomi's signature California regions. The company claims the product has the same premium taste that customers expect but with new, bold flavors and more options., February 2022: Ventessa by Mezzacorona launched a new wine brand for those seeking a naturally low-calorie wine option, thus, appealing to health-conscious consumers., May 2021: Treasury Wine Estates announced that the company had entered a long-term distribution agreement with Republic National Distributing Company (RNDC). The agreement will cover distribution in multiple markets in California with other states, including Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Mississippi, Utah, Wyoming, and Nebraska.. Notable trends are: Extensive Vineyard Area Anticipated to Strengthen the Market.
