TwitterEelgrass in Elkhorn Slough was delineated using heads-up digitizing in ArcGIS v.10.5. UAV imagery flown in July 2021 was used as the base layer for digitizing the polygons. Google Earth imagery from 2021 was also used in areas where the UAV imagery did not exist. Additionally, multibeam bathymetric data collected in 2011 was used for drawing polygons in the central portion of the main channel just east of Hwy 1. The scale of interpretation was approximately 1/100. The dataset was not groundtruthed.

TwitterThis landcover dataset represents habitats in the Elkhorn watershed based on 2018 high resolution NAIP imagery. The dataset was compiled, using automated classification techniques, by Nate Herold and his team at the NOAA Office of Coastal Management. This layer differs from the Elkhorn Slough advanced Lifeform map (available here) in terms of the classification scheme and the minimum mapping unit. This layer was created for the purpose of comparing habitat change from 2010 to 2018.

College Enrolled population by block group in the State of Iowa based on U.S. Census Bureau, 2013-2017 American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates. Used in the Transit Dependency Analysis as part of the 2020 Iowa DOT Public Transit Long Range Plan update. This factor was one of seven utilized in the analysis that was based on MTI Report 12-30 "Investigating the Determining Factors for Transit Travel Demand by Bus Mode in US Metropolitan Statistical Areas" by the Mineta Transportation Institute of San José State University (SJSU) in May 2015.More information on the Transit Dependency Analysis can be found in Appendix 2 of the Iowa Public Transit Long Range Plan.

TwitterThe purpose of this project was to create a high-resolution watershed layer that accurately reflects local watershed boundaries and area. With this information, extraction of other GIS data (e.g. NLCD land use) is possible in order to calculate variables that may influence environmental conditions in Elkhorn Slough. This is an unpublished dataset created by Charlie Endris at the Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve (2013). Delineation was performed in ArcGIS v10.1 using the Spatial Analyst Hydrology toolset. a combination of 3 meter and 10 meter digital elevation models (DEM’s), obtained from the National Elevation Dataset (NED) and distributed by the USGS . Specifically, McCluskey, Elkhorn, and Moro Cojo watersheds reflect the watershed boundaries acquired using the 3 m DEM. The Gabilan/Tembladero and Salinas watershed boundaries were acquired using a 10 m DEM since coverage of the 3 m DEM is incomplete. The shared boundary of the Moro Cojo, Elkhorn and Gabilan/Tembladero watersheds is based on the 3 m DEM.Note that hydrologic modification due to large-scale agricultural land use may result in slight inconsistencies between the locations of actual drainage dikes and the watershed boundaries presented here.

TwitterDipnetting surveys of the ponds listed here have been performed by researchers at the Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve (ESNERR) and others for many years. Additional sightings of larvae or adults, including those found in the California Natural Diversity Database (CNDDB), are also included in this dataset. This dataset was last updated in October 2024 and includes some eDNA records collected in 2021 and 2022. Note that multiple overlapping points may exist for each site due to multiple years of surveys. The data is formatted for ease of converting tabular data to GIS, and for converting GIS to Google Earth (kmz) without losing any records as would likely occur with a one-to-many join table.
