    Variables measured
    Helmet Bounding Boxes
    Description

Here are a few use cases for this project:

    1. Safety Monitoring: This model could be used in ski resorts for real-time monitoring of skiers, enabling authorities to enforce helmet rules and reduce the risk of injury.

    2. Sport Event Analysis: During professional ski competitions, this model might provide real-time analysis, identifying which competitors are wearing helmets and potentially categorizing them based on the type or color of their helmets.

    3. Development of Smart Cameras: Integrating this model into smart cameras could enable them to automatically identify and focus on skiers with helmets, useful for specific filming or photography needs.

    4. Insurance Investigations: Insurance companies might use this model to enhance their investigation process for winter sport accidents and determine if claimants were following safety protocols like wearing a helmet.

    5. AI Ski Coaching: This model can be incorporated into an AI-based ski coaching system in which the model identifies if the trainee is wearing a helmet or not, providing real-time feedback, enhancing safety, and providing an all-around learning experience.

    Description

Abstract copyright UK Data Service and data collection copyright owner.

Data accumulated from Consumers' Association surveys are designed to be used by the consumer. The surveys are, therefore, very specific in nature and the subjects covered diverse. The Data Archive holds 19 such surveys.
Readers are asked to note that, with the exception of the surveys on the Telephone Service - 69004, 69016, respondents surveyed are self selected from subscribers to the Association's magazine Which? and so the surveys cannot singly be used in descriptive accounts of the British public.
Surveys 69005-69012 cover various aspects of the housing experiences of Which? readers who moved house in 1967 and 1968. It is here particularly important to remember that the choice strategies and the resources of Which? readers are unlikely to be typical.
    Main Topics:

Topics covered include: the resort (amenities available and respondent rating); if first time at resort, reason for choice is given; the hotel (respondent rating on a value-for-money basis); skiing facilities (i.e. instruction in English, ski-lifts, restaurants etc.) together with lay out of runs, safety restrictions etc. - assessed with all levels of skiers in mind; pre-holiday preparation (i.e. preparation for skiing - `dry-skiing' facilities used, pre-ski exercises done - assessed for usefulness); travel arrangements and cost (i.e. how booked, assessment of agency service if used, method of transportation, cost of package holiday and what the price included etc.); insurance (how arranged, cover of policy, cost of premium, satisfaction with outcome of any claims made); skiing equipment used; membership of skiing or touring clubs; previous skiing experience; main reason for going on a skiing holiday.

    Description

Abstract (en): This survey was conducted in 1978 to determine the nature of the national market that existed for snow skiers and snow skiing equipment. There were three distinct types of respondents: (1) active skiers, i.e., individuals who had skied since November 1977, (2) inactive skiers, i.e., individuals who had skied in the past but not since November 1977, and (3) potential skiers, i.e., individuals who had never skied, but might try in the next few years. Part 1 contains data for 601 active skiers, e.g., preferences for, skill level, and number of years experience in downhill and cross-country skiing, the locations (both within and outside the United States) where respondents had skied, number of days skied in the past season, type and duration of ski vacations, and total days skiing over the past five years. Other data include projected increase or decrease in participation level, attitude toward cost of ski-related items, and whether cost had kept respondents from skiing. Part 2 contains more data gathered from the same group of active skiers, including preferences for skiing alone or with others, adequacy of ski facilities, and images of downhill skiing. This file also supplies respondent background information, e.g., age, sex, marital status, employment of spouse, number of children, occupation, number of times moved in last five years, place of residence, income, and education. Part 3 contains data for 676 inactive skiers, with the same variables as Part 1, plus data for the number of years since last skied, reasons for not skiing since then, and when resumption of skiing would occur. This file also records inactive skiers' preferences for skiing alone or with others, adequacy of ski facilities, and images of downhill skiing. Part 4 contains background data gathered from the 676 inactive skiers. Part 5 provides data on 1,003 potential skiers, e.g., interest in skiing, readership about and television viewing of skiing, members of the family who had ever skied, reasons for not taking up skiing, whether cost was a contributing factor for not skiing, adequacy of ski facilities, attitude toward the cost of ski-related items, images of downhill skiing, and ownership of various recreational equipment. Part 6 contains additional data for the same group of potential skiers, e.g., recreational activities respondents would choose to participate in and states where respondents would choose to ski. The same types of background information collected in Parts 2 and 4 are contained in this file as well. Snow skiing in the United States. 2006-01-18 File CB7801.PDF was removed from any previous datasets and flagged as a study-level file, so that it will accompany all downloads.

    Description

The data are related to two research articles: “The relative importance of ski resort-and weather-related characteristics when going alpine skiing” [1] and “Optimal pricing of alpine ski passes in the case of crowdedness and reduced skiing capacity” [2]. A rating-based conjoint survey experiment on active alpine skiers at a big ski area located in Inland Norway was performed in February of 2018 to collect the data and pertain to 400 respondents doing more than 7200 ratings. A total of ten versions of the same questionnaire type were used to obtain information about preferences on ski resort- and weather-related characteristics when going alpine skiing. We display the raw data organized such that they can be easily downloaded and used directly to either (1) replicate the analyses performed in the related research articles, or (2) run one’s own analyses on the topic of interest. The data may also be useful to lecturers teaching students about the key concepts of survey experiments and causal modelling.

    Description

The data used in this study were collected from a survey of active skiers conducted during February and March 2019, at a major ski resort in Norway. Before data collection took place, the questionnaires were pre-tested among students, family members, and staff at the university college. The data was collected in the ski resort on various weekdays (including weekends). A total of 779 forms were completed in part or completely. After removing incomplete forms, we ended up with 549 complete forms for our analyses. The survey consisted of questions about a range of factors related to alpine skiing. The main question in the survey regarding fast-track tickets is reproduced in Figure 1. In the question, we asked skiers how much extra, in addition to the day-pass price of 455 Norwegian kroner (NOK) , they would pay (in the interval NOK 0 to 100) for given scenarios of between 1- and 20-minute waiting time at the main lifts.
