    Open Source Database Market Outlook

The global open source database market size was valued at approximately USD 15.5 billion in 2023 and is projected to reach around USD 40.6 billion by 2032, expanding at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11.5% during the forecast period. The growth of this market is primarily driven by the increasing adoption of open-source databases by both SMEs and large enterprises due to their cost-effectiveness and flexibility.

A significant growth factor for the open source database market is the rising demand for data analytics and business intelligence across various industries. Organizations are increasingly leveraging big data to gain actionable insights, enhance decision-making processes, and improve operational efficiency. Open source databases provide the scalability and performance required to handle large volumes of data, making them an attractive option for businesses looking to maximize their data-driven strategies. Additionally, the continuous advancements and contributions from the open-source community help in keeping these databases at the cutting edge of technology.

Another driving factor is the cost-efficiency associated with open-source databases. Unlike proprietary databases, which can be expensive due to licensing fees, open-source databases are usually free to use, offering a significant cost advantage. This factor is especially crucial for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which often operate with limited budgets. The lower total cost of ownership, combined with the flexibility to customize the database according to specific needs, makes open-source solutions highly appealing for businesses of all sizes.

The increasing trend of digital transformation is also playing a crucial role in the growth of the open source database market. As businesses across various sectors accelerate their digital initiatives, the need for robust, scalable, and efficient data management solutions becomes paramount. Open-source databases provide the agility and innovation that organizations require to keep up with the rapidly changing digital landscape. Moreover, the support for cloud deployment further enhances their appeal, providing businesses with the scalability and flexibility needed to adapt to evolving technological demands.

From a regional perspective, North America holds a significant share in the open source database market, driven by the presence of major technology companies and a highly developed IT infrastructure. The region's focus on technological innovation and early adoption of advanced technologies contributes to its dominant position. Europe follows closely, with increasing investments in digital transformation initiatives. The Asia Pacific region is expected to witness the highest growth rate during the forecast period, fueled by rapid technological advancements, a burgeoning IT sector, and increased adoption of open-source solutions by businesses.

Relational Databases Software plays a crucial role in the open-source database market, offering structured data management solutions that are essential for various business applications. These databases are known for their ability to handle complex queries and transactions, making them ideal for industries that require high levels of data integrity and consistency. The flexibility and robustness of relational databases software allow organizations to efficiently manage large volumes of structured data, which is critical for applications such as financial systems, enterprise resource planning, and customer relationship management. As businesses continue to prioritize data-driven decision-making, the demand for relational databases software is expected to grow, further driving the expansion of the open-source database market.

    Database Type Analysis

The open source database market is segmented into SQL, NoSQL, and NewSQL databases. SQL databases are the most widely used and have been the backbone of data management for decades. They offer robust transaction management and are ideal for structured data storage and retrieval. The ongoing improvements in SQL databases, such as enhanced performance and security features, continue to make them a preferred choice for many organizations. Additionally, the availability of various SQL-based open-source solutions like MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MariaDB provides organizations with reliable options to manage their data effectively.

Abstract copyright UK Data Service and data collection copyright owner.

The Business Structure Database (BSD) contains a small number of variables for almost all business organisations in the UK. The BSD is derived primarily from the Inter-Departmental Business Register (IDBR), which is a live register of data collected by HM Revenue and Customs via VAT and Pay As You Earn (PAYE) records. The IDBR data are complimented with data from ONS business surveys. If a business is liable for VAT (turnover exceeds the VAT threshold) and/or has at least one member of staff registered for the PAYE tax collection system, then the business will appear on the IDBR (and hence in the BSD). In 2004 it was estimated that the businesses listed on the IDBR accounted for almost 99 per cent of economic activity in the UK. Only very small businesses, such as the self-employed were not found on the IDBR.

The IDBR is frequently updated, and contains confidential information that cannot be accessed by non-civil servants without special permission. However, the ONS Virtual Micro-data Laboratory (VML) created and developed the BSD, which is a 'snapshot' in time of the IDBR, in order to provide a version of the IDBR for research use, taking full account of changes in ownership and restructuring of businesses. The 'snapshot' is taken around April, and the captured point-in-time data are supplied to the VML by the following September. The reporting period is generally the financial year. For example, the 2000 BSD file is produced in September 2000, using data captured from the IDBR in April 2000. The data will reflect the financial year of April 1999 to March 2000. However, the ONS may, during this time, update the IDBR with data on companies from its own business surveys, such as the Annual Business Survey (SN 7451).

The Business Structure Database Longitudinal, 1997-2013 was compiled by Michael Anyadike-Danes, Aston Business School, with support from Economic and Social Research Council funding.

Researchers are advised to read the documentation accompanying the main BSD collection held by the UK Data Archive under SN 6697 before applying for or using the longitudinal data.

    Linking to other business studies
These data contain IDBR reference numbers. These are anonymous but unique reference numbers assigned to business organisations. Their inclusion allows researchers to combine different business survey sources together. Researchers may consider applying for other business data to assist their research.

For the second edition (April 2019), the full postcodes have been replaced with only the first part of the postcode (e.g., SW1V rather than SW1V 2QQ) in the two geography data files. A look up file that includes postcode districts has been added so that users can still aggregate to higher geographies.

    Main Topics:

The Business Structure Database Longitudinal, 1997-2013 includes the following files:
    • enterprise birth and death date file
    • enterprise employees file, giving the total number of employees (excluding owners) of each enterprise
    • two geography files, including Government Office Regions and postcodes, both at birth and throughout 1997-2013
    • two Standard Industrial Classification code files both at birth and throughout 1997-2013
All files include the Enterprise reference number, which allows linking of the longitudinal dataset to other business surveys.

    Description

The European Business Performance database describes the performance of the largest enterprises in the twentieth century. It covers eight countries that together consistently account for above 80 per cent of western European GDP: Great Britain, Germany, France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Sweden, and Finland. Data have been collected for five benchmark years, namely on the eve of WWI (1913), before the Great Depression (1927), at the extremes of the golden age (1954 and 1972), and in 2000.The database is comprised of two distinct datasets. The Small Sample (625 firms) includes the largest enterprises in each country across all industries (economy-wide). To avoid over-representation of certain countries and sectors, countries contribute a number of firms that is roughly proportionate to the size of the economy: 30 firms from Great Britain, 25 from Germany, 20 from France, 15 from Italy, 10 from Belgium, Spain, and Sweden, and 5 from Finland. By the same token, a cap has been set on the number of financial firms entering the sample, so that they range between up to 6 for Britain and 1 for Finland. The second dataset, or Large Sample (1,167 firms), is made up of the largest firms per industry. Here industries are so selected as to take into account long-term technological developments and the rise of entirely new products and services. Firms have been individually classified using the two-digit ISIC Rev. 3.1 codes, then grouped under a manageable number of industries. To some extent and broadly speaking, the two samples have a rather distinct focus: the Small Sample is biased in favour of sheer bigness, whereas the Large Sample emphasizes industries. As far as size and performance indicators are concerned, total assets has been picked as the main size measure in the first three benchmarks, turnover in 1972 and 2000 (financial intermediaries, though, are ranked by total assets throughout the database). Performance is gauged by means of two financial ratios, namely return on equity and shareholders’ return, i.e. the percentage year-on-year change in share price based on year-end values. In order to smooth out volatility, at each benchmark performance figures have been averaged over three consecutive years (for instance, performance in 1913 reflects average performance in 1911, 1912, and 1913).All figures were collected in national currency and converted to US dollars at current year-average exchange rates.

McGRAW’s US B2B Data: Accurate, Reliable, and Market-Ready

Our B2B database delivers over 80 million verified contacts with 95%+ accuracy. Supported by in-house call centers, social media validation, and market research teams, we ensure that every record is fresh, reliable, and optimized for B2B outreach, lead generation, and advanced market insights.

Our B2B database is one of the most accurate and extensive datasets available, covering over 91 million business executives with a 95%+ accuracy guarantee. Designed for businesses that require the highest quality data, this database provides detailed, validated, and continuously updated information on decision-makers and industry influencers worldwide.

The B2B Database is meticulously curated to meet the needs of businesses seeking precise and actionable data. Our datasets are not only extensive but also rigorously validated and updated to ensure the highest level of accuracy and reliability.

    Key Data Attributes:

    • Personal Identifiers: First name, last name
    • Professional Details: Title, direct dial numbers
    • Business Information: Company name, address, phone number, fax number, website
    • Company Metrics: Employee size, sales volume
    • Technology Insights: Information on hardware and software usage across organizations
    • Social Media Connections: LinkedIn, Facebook, and direct dial contacts
    • Corporate Insights: Detailed company profiles

Unlike many providers that rely solely on third-party vendor files, McGRAW takes a hands-on approach to data validation. Our dedicated nearshore and offshore call centers engage directly with data before each delivery to ensure every record meets our high standards of accuracy and relevance.

In addition, our teams of social media validators, market researchers, and digital marketing specialists continuously refine and update records to maintain data freshness. Each dataset undergoes multiple verification checks using internal validation processes and third-party tools such as Fresh Address, BriteVerify, and Impressionwise to guarantee the highest data quality.

    Additional Data Solutions and Services

    • Data Enhancement: Email and LinkedIn appends, contact discovery across global roles and functions

    • Business Verification: Real-time validation through call centers, social media, and market research

    • Technology Insights: Detailed IT infrastructure reports, spending trends, and executive insights

    • Healthcare Database: Access to over 80 million healthcare professionals and industry leaders

    • Global Reach: US and international GDPR-compliant datasets, complete with email, postal, and phone contacts

    • Email Broadcast Services: Full-service campaign execution, from testing to live deployment, with tracking of key engagement metrics such as opens and clicks

Many B2B data providers rely on vendor-contributed files without conducting the rigorous validation necessary to ensure accuracy. This often results in outdated and unreliable data that fails to meet the demands of a fast-moving business environment.

McGRAW takes a different approach. By owning and operating dedicated call centers, we directly verify and validate our data before delivery, ensuring that every record is up-to-date and ready to drive business success.

Through continuous validation, social media verification, and real-time updates, McGRAW provides a high-quality, dependable database for businesses that prioritize data integrity and performance. Our Global Business Executives database is the ideal solution for companies that need accurate, relevant, and market-ready data to fuel their strategies.

    Description

The mission of the Bay Area Health Task Force (BAHTF) was to address the issues and problems of the growing number of people who were uninsured for health care. With the support of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, BAHTF established the Health Insurance Helpline, which provided health insurance information and referrals for small businesses. This data collection was produced in order to evaluate this Helpline. The data collection consists of four sets of data, one from each year that the Helpline service was offered (1989 through 1992). The unit of analysis is calls received by the Helpline, which were categorized by the type of caller (business, individual, other) and type of service received (broker referral, guidebook only, other). Callers were generally categorized as insured businesses, uninsured businesses, insured individuals, or uninsured individuals. (The category "other" was left for callers who could not be clearly classified as business or individual callers.) A follow-up was conducted for over a quarter of the callers to obtain feedback about the program. Callers provided information concerning their reason for calling, the number of employees they had working full-time, the nature of their business firm, whether the business firm offered health insurance, and which plan they offered.
