Please note: This is a Synthetic data file, also known as a Dummy file - it is not real data. This synthetic file should not be used for purposes other than to develop an test computer programs that are to be submitted by remote access. Each record in the synthetic file matches the format and content parameters of the real Statistics Canada Master File with which it is associated, but the data themselves have been 'made up'. They do NOT represent responses from real individuals and should NOT be used for actual analysis. These data are provided solely for the purpose of testing statistical package 'code' (e.g. SPSS syntax, SAS programs, etc.) in preperation for analysis using the associated Master File in a Research Data Centre, by Remote Job Submission, or by some other means of secure access. If statistical analysis 'code' works with the synthetic data, researchers can have some confidence that the same code will run successfully against the Master File data in the Resource Data Centres. In the fall of 1991, the National Health Information Council recommended that an ongoing national survey of population health be conducted. This recommendation was based on consideration of the economic and fiscal pressures on the health care systems and the requirement for information with which to improve the health status of the population in Canada. Commencing in April 1992, Statistics Canada received funding for development of a National Population Health Survey (NPHS). The NPHS collects information related to the health of the Canadian population and related socio-demographic information to: aid in the development of public policy by providing measures of the level, trend and distribution of the health status of the population, provide data for analytic studies that will assist in understanding the determinants of health, and collect data on the economic, social, demographic, occupational and environmental correlates of health. In addition the NPHS seeks to increase the understanding of the relationship between health status and health care utilization, including alternative as well as traditional services, and also to allow the possibility of linking survey data to routinely collected administrative data such as vital statistics, environmental measures, community variables, and health services utilization. The NPHS collects information related to the health of the Canadian population and related socio-demographic information. It is composed of three components: the Households, the Health Institutions, and the North components. The Household component started in 1994/1995 and is conducted every two years. The first cycle of the NPHS is both longitudinal and cross-sectional. The NPHS longitudinal sample includes 17,276 persons from all ages in 1994/1995 and these same persons will be interviewed every two years. Health Canada, Public Health Agency of Canada and provincial ministries of health use NPHS longitudinal data to plan, implement and evaluate programs and health policies to improve health and the efficiency of health services. Non-profit health organizations and researchers in the academic fields use the information to move research ahead and to improve health.

    Description

China Retail Investor Sentiment Analytics provides sentiment analytics of Chinese retail investors based on 2 stock forums, Guba (GACRIS dataset) and Xueqiu (XACRIS dataset), the most popular stock forums in China from 2007.

By utilizing in-house NLP models which are dedicatedly optimized for Chinese stock forum posts and trained on a proprietary manually labeled and cross-checked training data, the dataset provides accurate text analytics of post content, including but not limited to quality, sentiment, and relevant stocks with relevance score. In addition to the aggregated statistics of stock sentiment and popularity, the dataset also provides rich and fine-grained information for each user/post in record level. For example, it reports the registration time, number of followers for each user, and also the replies/readings and province being published for each post. Moreover, these meta data are processed in point-in-Time (PIT) manner since 2019.

The dataset could help clients easily capture the sentiment and popularity among millions of Chinese retail investors. On the other hand, it also offers flexibility for clients to customize novel analytics, such as studying the sentiment (conformity/divergence) of users of different level of influence or posts of different hotness, or simply filtering the posts published by users which are too active/positive/negative in a time window when aggregating the statistics.

    Context

Data containing self reported unmet needs for medical examination by sex, age, main reason as reported and education attainment level in Europe. Source is https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/data/database (official European Data Source). Data is downloaded from the source.

    Content

    Original data

The original data (hlth_silc_14.tsv) is provided in TSV (tab delimited) format. Data contains elf reported unmet needs for medical examination by sex, age, main reason as reported and education attainment level in Europe. The time unit used are years. Geography is at country level (in Europe) or aggregated on 2 indicators for Europe (EU27_2020 & EU28). Sex is either F or M. Education level attainment is according to ISCED11.

    Transformed data

The transformed data (unmet_needs_for_medical_exam.csv) is in csv format. The temporal data was pivoted using Starter Kernel: Asylum Applicants in Europe Kernel.

    How to

The original data has the temporal information given as columns (per year). In order to further use this data, it would be more easy to pivot first these columns to get instead date/value pairs. This pivot operation, using melt from pandas is done in the starter kernel: * Starter Kernel: Unmet Needs for Medical Exam; we convert the year to an integer. Just run this Kernel to put the data in csv format, with yearly data pivoted.

    Acknowledgements

All merit for data collection, curation, and initial publishing goes to Eurostat.

    Inspiration

You can use this data for various demographic, public health, social aspects, combining with alternative data from Kaggle and other sources.

    Description

This study explores the potential of utilizing alternative data sources to enhance the accuracy of credit scoring models, compared to relying solely on traditional data sources, such as credit bureau data. A comprehensive dataset from the Home Credit Group’s home loan portfolio is analysed. The research examines the impact of incorporating alternative predictors that are typically overlooked, such as an applicant’s social network default status, regional economic ratings, and local population characteristics. The modelling approach applies the model-X knockoffs framework for systematic variable selection. By including these alternative data sources, the credit scoring models demonstrate improved predictive performance, achieving an area under the curve metric of 0.79360 on the Kaggle Home Credit default risk competition dataset, outperforming models that relied solely on traditional data sources, such as credit bureau data. The findings highlight the significance of leveraging diverse, non-traditional data sources to augment credit risk assessment capabilities and overall model accuracy.

This project sought to provide an alternative population-level measurement of homeownership by gender, relying on individuals rather than households as the unit of analysis. Rather than start with household surveys, we examined municipal tax assessor records of homeownership, coding their gender using a name-recognition algorithm. The project found considerable differences between conventional measures that rely on surveys and our measure relying on tax administrative data.

    Context

This data set contains data regarding the allocation of funding from the Department of Developmental Services to developmentally-disabled individuals in California in 2014.

    Content

    The variables included are:

    • Id [int]
    • Age Cohort (age group) [factor]
    • Age [int]
    • Gender [factor]
    • Expenditures [int]
    • Ethnicity [factor]

This data set is well suited for exploring the effects of Simpson's Paradox and confounding variables.

    Acknowledgements

The data was originally retrieved from the California Department of Developmental Services (http://www.dds.ca.gov) by Stanley Taylor and Amy Mickel from California State University, Sacremento. The names associated with each record have been removed to protect anonymity.

Taylor and Mickel explored Simpson's Paradox using this data set after a discrimination lawsuit was filed against the California DDS. The lawsuit claimed that White Non-Hispanics were receiving more funding than Hispanics. To learn more about the analysis and findings of Taylor and Mickel, read the paper they published together by following this link: www.amstat.org/publications/jse/v22n1/mickel.pdf

    Inspiration

Is there any basis to the claim of discrimination? What are the confounding variables? What are other ways to organize this data to gain an alternate perspective?
