    Description

In September 2025, the UK inflation rate for goods was 2.9 percent and 4.7 percent for services. Prices for goods accelerated significantly, sharply between 2021 and 2022, before falling in 2023. By comparison, prices for services initially grew at a more moderate rate but have also not fallen as quickly. The overall CPI inflation rate for the UK reached a recent high of 11.1 percent in October 2022 and remained in double figures until April 2023, when it fell to 8.7 percent. As of this month, the UK's inflation rate was 3.6 percent, up from 3.4 percent in the previous month. Sectors driving high inflation In late 2024, communication was the sector with the highest inflation rate, with prices increasing by 6.1 percent as of December 2024. During the recent period of high inflation that eased in 2023, food and energy prices were particular high, with housing and energy inflation far higher than in any other sector, peaking at 26.6 percent towards the end of 2022. High food and energy prices since 2021 have been one of the main causes of the cost of living crisis in the UK, especially for low-income households that spend a higher share of their income on these categories. This is likely one of the factors driving increasing food bank usage in the UK, which saw approximately 3.12 million people use a food bank in 2023/24, compared with 1.9 million just before the COVID-19 pandemic. The global inflation crisis The UK has not been alone in suffering rapid price increases since 2021. After the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, a series of economic and geopolitical shocks had a dramatic impact on the global economy. A global supply chain crisis failed to meet rising demand in 2021, leading to the beginning of an Inflation Crisis, which was only exacerbated by Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The war directly influenced the prices of food and energy, as both countries were major exporters of important crops. European imports of hydrocarbons from Russia were also steadily reduced throughout 2022 and 2023, resulting in higher energy prices throughout the year.

The inflation rate for housing services remains about 2 percentage points above its 2019 level. Several factors are likely to slow its decline, including more than a decade of underbuilding prior to the pandemic, limited capacity to increase the nation’s housing stock, and the limited number of homes available for sale due to the steeper mortgage rates owners would face if they sold and purchased a different home.

    Description

The Inflation Management Services market is experiencing robust growth, driven by increasing global inflation and the need for businesses to mitigate its impact on profitability and long-term sustainability. The market, estimated at $15 billion in 2025, is projected to exhibit a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 12% between 2025 and 2033, reaching approximately $45 billion by 2033. This expansion is fueled by several key factors, including rising energy prices, supply chain disruptions, and increased government intervention to control inflation. Businesses across various sectors, particularly those in manufacturing, retail, and finance, are actively seeking sophisticated strategies to forecast and manage inflation effectively. The increasing adoption of advanced analytics, predictive modeling, and AI-powered solutions further enhances the market's growth trajectory. Consulting firms like McKinsey & Company, Bain & Company, and Deloitte are playing a significant role in providing these services, leveraging their expertise in economic forecasting, financial modeling, and risk management. The market is segmented by service type (e.g., forecasting, hedging, pricing strategies), industry vertical, and geography. Regional growth is expected to be strongest in North America and Europe, driven by high inflation rates and a strong emphasis on corporate financial planning in these regions. While the market presents significant opportunities, challenges such as data scarcity and the complexity of accurately predicting inflation remain. The effectiveness of inflation management services is also contingent on external factors such as government policies and unexpected global events. Despite these constraints, the consistent need to protect profitability and shareholder value, along with the advancement of analytical tools, positions the inflation management services market for continued growth in the foreseeable future. The competitive landscape is characterized by a mix of large consulting firms offering comprehensive solutions and specialized firms focusing on niche areas within inflation management. The market will likely see further consolidation as firms strive to offer end-to-end solutions and expand their geographical reach.

    Description

The inflation rate in the United States declined significantly between June 2022 and September 2025, despite rising inflationary pressures towards the end of 2024. The peak inflation rate was recorded in June 2022, at *** percent. In August 2023, the Federal Reserve's interest rate hit its highest level during the observed period, at **** percent, and remained unchanged until September 2024, when the Federal Reserve implemented its first rate cut since September 2021. By September 2025, the rate dropped to **** percent, signaling a shift in monetary policy. What is the Federal Reserve interest rate? The Federal Reserve interest rate, or the federal funds rate, is the rate at which banks and credit unions lend to and borrow from each other. It is one of the Federal Reserve's key tools for maintaining strong employment rates, stable prices, and reasonable interest rates. The rate is determined by the Federal Reserve and adjusted eight times a year, though it can be changed through emergency meetings during times of crisis. The Fed doesn't directly control the interest rate but sets a target rate. It then uses open market operations to influence rates toward this target. Ways of measuring inflation Inflation is typically measured using several methods, with the most common being the Consumer Price Index (CPI). The CPI tracks the price of a fixed basket of goods and services over time, providing a measure of the price changes consumers face. At the end of 2023, the CPI in the United States was ****** percent, up from ****** a year earlier. A more business-focused measure is the producer price index (PPI), which represents the costs of firms.

    Description

This paper examines the forecasting efficacy and implications of the recently popular breakdown of core inflation into three components: goods excluding food and energy, services excluding energy and housing, and housing. A comprehensive historical evaluation of the accuracy of point and density forecasts from a range of models and approaches shows that a BVAR with stochastic volatility in aggregate core inflation, its three components, and wage growth is an effective tool for forecasting inflation's components as well as aggregate core inflation. Looking ahead, the model's baseline projection puts core inflation at 2.6 percent in 2026, well below its 2023 level but still elevated relative to the Federal Reserve's 2 percent objective. The probability that core inflation will return to 2 percent or less is much higher when conditioning on goods or non-housing services inflation slowing to pre-pandemic levels than when conditioning on these components remaining above the same thresholds. Scenario analysis indicates that slower wage growth will likely be associated with reduced inflation in all three components, especially goods and non-housing services, helping to return core inflation to near the 2 percent target by 2026.

    Description

The Consumer Price Index gauges the price changes in a basket of goods and services in a defined time period. During August 2024, the product category with the highest Consumer Price Index (CPI) increase compared with the previous month in Argentina was household, water, electricity, gas and other fuels with a ***** percent increase. Followed by education with a *** percent increase. Nonetheless, when compared with the previous year, communications registered the highest price increase with over *** percent year-over-year. The expectation of inflation Despite Argentina’s efforts to reduce inflation, the country ranks in the top three Latin American countries with the highest rate, only with a lower figure than Venezuela and Suriname. The situation is not a recent one, the inflation rate has been reaching double digits every year since 2012, reaching over ** percent in 2019, making the constant rising prices nothing out of the ordinary for Argentinian families. The expectation of inflation is one of the main causes of inflation with low central bank interest-rates and increases in the money supply, which helps to explain the chronic inflation of the country. Both firms and people expect inflation in their lives, workers demand increasing wages to coop with inflation, while companies increase prices of goods and services because they expect production costs to grow, creating a vicious circle in the economy. Inflation and poverty Inflation negatively affects consumers and savers alike. For the latter, 100 Argentinian pesos in 2020 was worth just under ** pesos in 2021, after adjusting for the ***** percent inflation rate. For the consumers, rising prices of the basic products increase the vulnerability of the population. In January 2023, the value of the basic food basket, which establishes the extreme poverty line, stood at ****** pesos, more than ten times higher than during the same month in 2018. Between the first half of 2018 and the first half of 2022, the share of households under the poverty line increased by over * percentage points reaching **** percent.
