The dataset is a spatial representation of the Regional Center Boundary in Somerset County, New Jersey. These areas/boundaries were approved by the New Jersey State Planning Commission Resolution No. 2013-10 on October 16, 2013. The Somerset County Regional Center Boundaries include Boroughs of Raritan and Somerville in their entireties and portions of Township of Bridgewater. The adopted updates for the Regional Center Boundaries will remain in force for 10 years.

The MBTA finally completed the long-awaited Green Line extension (GLX) with the opening of several new stations through Somerville and Medford. While this is a benefit to many residents, others are beginning to notice potential consequences in the form of rent increases and threats of new development along the route. One neighborhood in particular, Ball Square (with a namesake Green Line station), is reacting to mixed-use development plans and street upgrades along Broadway, its main thoroughfare. Here, we map current conditions of the neighborhood and compare them to proposals, focusing on what might be lost and gained in the coming years, along with a traffic analysis and recorded concerns from business owners and residents.
