The South & Southwest Center was established in October 1991 under Section 311(d) of CERCLA to conduct research and technology transfer designed to promote risk-based management and control of hazardous substances for the nation and regions 4 and 6 the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The contaminated sediments and dredged materials of concern contain organics, metals, and conventional pollutants. These environmental contaminants are either suspended in the water column or stored on the bottom of rivers, bayous, lakes, harbors, estuaries, freshwater wetlands, and in ocean waters of the continental shelf. Research theme areas include: Assessing the physical, chemical, and biological processes influencing contaminant availability Evaluating and enhancing biotransformation processes in sediments Improving the science of risk management for contaminated sediments Complex environmental problems that face the nation are not easily addressed by conventional single-investigator, single-institution research efforts. The Center has the ability to assemble teams of researchers that cross departmental and institutional boundaries to better address these problems. Description

Multiple sampling campaigns were conducted near Boulder, Colorado, to quantify constituent concentrations and loads in Boulder Creek and its tributary, South Boulder Creek. Diel sampling was initiated at approximately 1100 hours on September 17, 2019, and continued until approximately 2300 hours on September 18, 2019. During this time period, samples were collected at two locations on Boulder Creek approximately every 3.5 hours to quantify the diel variability of constituent concentrations at low flow. Synoptic sampling campaigns on South Boulder Creek and Boulder Creek were conducted October 15-18, 2019, to develop spatial profiles of concentration, streamflow, and load. Numerous main stem and inflow locations were sampled during each synoptic campaign using the simple grab technique (17 main stem and 2 inflow locations on South Boulder Creek; 34 main stem and 17 inflow locations on Boulder Creek). Streamflow at each main stem location was measured using acoustic doppler velocimetry. Bulk samples from all sampling campaigns were processed within one hour of sample collection. Processing steps included measurement of pH and specific conductance, and filtration using 0.45-micron filters. Laboratory analyses were subsequently conducted to determine dissolved and total recoverable constituent concentrations. Filtered samples were analyzed for a suite of dissolved anions using ion chromatography. Filtered, acidified samples and unfiltered acidified samples were analyzed by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry and inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopy to determine dissolved and total recoverable cation concentrations, respectively. This data release includes three data tables, three photographs, and a kmz file showing the sampling locations. Additional information on the data table contents, including the presentation of data below the analytical detection limits, is provided in a Data Dictionary.

    Measurement technique
The data presented in this dataset is derived from the latest U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2017-2021 5-Year Estimates. To measure the two variables, namely (a) Origin / Ancestry for Hispanic population and (b) respective population as a percentage of the total Hispanic population, we initially analyzed and categorized the data for each of the ancestries across the Hispanic or Latino population. It is ensured that the population estimates used in this dataset pertain exclusively to ancestries for the Hispanic or Latino population. For further information regarding these estimates, please feel free to reach out to us via email at research@neilsberg.com.

    Description

Seamless unconfined groundwater heads for U.S. coastal North and South Carolina groundwater systems were modeled with homogeneous, steady-state MODFLOW simulations. The geographic extent examined was limited primarily to low-elevation (land surface less than approximately 10 m above mean sea level) areas. Steady-state MODFLOW groundwater flow models were used to obtain detailed (50-meter-scale) predictions over large geographic scales (100s of kilometers) of groundwater heads for both current and future sea-level rise (SLR) scenarios (0, 0.25, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, and 3 m) using 3 spatially varying hydraulic conductivities (K); one based on published K’s, one with published K’s reduced by a factor of 10 (K0.1), and one with published K’s increased by a factor of 10 (K10) to assess the sensitivity of model results to K. All models had variable thicknesses corresponding to published transmissivities. The models were run with a local mean higher-high water (MHHW) marine boundary condition and with groundwater reaching the land surface removed from the model, simulating loss via natural drainage.
