    Description

Under Article 4 of the Birds Directive (Directive 2009/ 147/EC) six Special Protection Areas (SPAs), covering a total land area of c.1,671km² has been classified for the conservation of the Hen Harrier Circus cyaneus in Ireland. A survey of breeding Hen Harrier reported that 128 to 172 breeding pairs were recorded in 2010 which was broadly similar to the totals recorded in the previous survey in 2005. However notable declines were recorded in some traditional strongholds of this species’ breeding range (Ruddock et al., 2012). In 2014 a Hen Harrier Habitat Mapping Project focusing on these SPAs and based on remote sensing techniques was undertaken. This project was to produce a contemporary geospatially digitised habitat map for the six SPAs. This project produced a contemporary geospatially digitised habitat map for the six SPAs. This projects was to use habitat categories that broadly correspond to the Fossitt Classification system (Smith et al., 2011), distinguish habitats of ecological relevance to Hen Harrier, to use a mapping resolution corresponding to the Ordnance Survey Ireland 1:5000 base-map to allow land use within discreet enclosed land parcels to be readily identifiable.

    Description

The dataset contains Natura 2000 sites under the Birds Directive in the Great East also known as Special Protection Areas (SPAs). These areas form part of the Natura 2000 network of Community areas for the protection of habitats and species of Community interest. Special Protection Areas (SPAs) are sea and land sites particularly suitable for the survival and reproduction of wild bird species listed by the Minister responsible for the environment or which serve as breeding, moulting, wintering or relaying areas for migratory bird species. (source: Aten, legal sheets 2005). Note the creation of two fields allowing access, by sites, to the DREAL and INPN files. Note that the NATURA 2000 network also contains sites under the Habitats Directive (ZSC) in the Great East. Name of the GIS layer: NATURA2000_ZPS_S_R44.shp

    Description

Habitat mapping, understood as the collection of information relating to the recognition and localization of natural environments in a specific database, assumes the latter as the fundamental territorial units capable of containing and representing the extraordinary mosaic of biological diversity. The cartographic rendering obtained constitutes a first specific-thematic analysis within the perimeters of SCI and SPAs, a sort of zoning within the Natura 2000 Network aimed at summarizing a complex and multifunctional information content. The final objective is a cognitive picture, as accurate and complete as possible, of the distribution of habitats and the constant and updated monitoring of evolutionary changes. It is understood that the Map, due to its nature of organized collection of all georeferenced information relating to habitats, has the purpose of illustrating and not of certifying and has all the limits of a continuously evolving activity and of a simplified representation of the reality. It does not constitute a norm, but rather a cognitive reference valid at the update date, but not exhaustive. As such, it will be of assistance to all those who wish to delve deeper into territorial analyses, but cannot replace other cognitive activities aimed at planning and evaluating the impact of plans, projects and interventions on the areas of the Nature Network, the implementation of which envisages, in case by chance, different scales of study of the phenomena. The general objective of the work is, in fact, to build and share a real inventory of habitats that represents the memory of knowledge on the natural and semi-natural environments of Natura 2000 value in terms of distribution and localization, a general collection of georeferenced information that can be updated and which can be explored further whenever new observations are produced. The Map aims to collect available information only on habitats of community interest (and on 5 other habitats identified for the purposes of this survey for their naturalistic relevance at a regional level).

    Description

Los Angeles County Service Planning Areas (SPAs), updated in 2022. Los Angeles County is divided into eight SPAs for health care planning purposes.Updating SPA and Health District boundaries to align with new U.S. Census Bureau census tract boundaries is performed after every Decennial Census. How was this data created? The 2020 Census Tracts from the U.S. Census Bureau's 2021 TIGER/Line were used as building blocks for the SPA layer. The 2012 SPA layer was compared to the 2020 Census Tracts to provide preliminary information on the SPAs associated with each Census Tract and to determine where SPAs no longer aligned. For the 2022 SPA layer, boundaries were updated to align with the 2020 Census Tract boundary changes with consideration for maintaining effective service delivery. The SPAs were refined to conform with the County boundary and coastline from the Supervisorial Districts 2021 and County Boundary layers.Data Fields:SPA (Type = Text, Length = 1, Alias = SPA 2022): SPA number as text; a numeric but non-quantitative identifierSPA_NAME (Type = Text, Length = 30, Alias = SPA NAME): Full SPA nameABBV (Type = Text, Length = 5): Abbreviated SPA nameLABEL (Type = Text, Length = 10): Descriptive text of SPA for mapsSPA_NUM (Type = Short, Alias = SPA NUM): SPA number as number; field type from earlier 2012 version of SPAsUpdate Frequency: After every Decennial Census or as needed

Natura 2000 - SCIs & SPAs data harmonised according INSPIRE Protected Sites data theme. The submission of sites to the EC entails the preparation of a datasheet and a map for each site, that is for each proposed SCI and for each SPA, unless a proposed SCI has the exact boundary as an SPA; in the latter case only one datasheet is prepared comprising all relevant information. Reference can be made to the Natura 2000 viewer - including datasheets (link: http://natura2000.eea.europa.eu/) and to the Natura 2000 database (link: http://www.eea.europa.eu/data-and-maps/data/natura-2000/) to obtain information on each Natura 2000 site for almost all of the EU Member States. Information for the sites nominated by Malta are also available through these same links.

    Description

This spreadsheet contains the UK wide data submitted to the EU Commmission as part of the Standard Data Form information completed for all Special Protection Areas. Special Protection Areas (SPAs) are strictly protected sites classified in accordance with Article 4 of the EC Birds Directive, which came into force in April 1979. They are classified for rare and vulnerable birds (as listed on Annex I of the Directive), and for regularly occurring migratory species. The EU Commission requires information on each site to be compiled in the form of a Standard Data Form. This dataset is updated every time a new or amended batch of information is submitted to the EU Commission. It is an archived data series form August 2009 to July 2015). Note that Gibraltar information is not included in this spreadsheet. Please note that this information was superceded in December 2015 by a spreadsheet that contains information for both SACs and also SPAs - in other words for the whole Natura 2000 network. This dataset is entitled "Natura 2000 all site details"

The information provided here, follows the officially agreed site information format for Natura 2000 sites, as set out in the Official Journal of the European Union recording the Commission Implementing Decision of 11 July 2011 (2011/484/EU). The content matches exactly the data submitted to the European Commission. Further technical documentation may be found here http://bd.eionet.europa.eu/activities/Natura_2000/reference_portal More general information on Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) in the United Kingdom is available from the SAC home page on the JNCC website. http://jncc.defra.gov.uk/default.aspx?page=23. This webpage also provides links to Standard Data Forms for all SACs in the UK.

this sheet is organised in a series of tabs - corresponding to different sections of the standard data form. All sheets are filterable by Country codes - (E, S, W, NI and OF for offshore). Cross border sites take the first letter of each country code eg EW for England Wales, SO for Scotland/Offshore. The tabs are: *SPA Site details - one row per site, containing basic site details. *Bird data submitted to the EU - species listed in section 3.2 of the standard data form and also bird assemblages identified in section 4.2 *SPA Maps - a facility to produce simple dot maps of sites *SPA Habitat classes *Bird data assemblages *SPA Physical site characteristics (pre 2013 versions of this spreadshet only - from 2013 these details are integrated into a column on the site details table).
