Bets during the 2014 FIFA World Cup
Betting on the course of matches is no longer the only way to gamble during a World Cup. Gamblers can now bet on a very large number of facts; from the number of goals, to who has scored them, as well as which player was the one who gave the assist to the scorer. During the 2014 FIFA World Cup, a large majority of French gamblers saw Brazil winning the competition. A bad bet, Brazil was beaten 7-1 by Germany in the semi-finals, during a match that remained famous. Concerning the top scorer of the competition, it seems that the French bettors had once again not been the most visionary. More than 30 percent of the bets were on Argentinian striker Lionel Messi, while James Rodriguez was awarded top scorer of the competition. A proof that football remains an unpredictable sport.
