A layer that shows the relative concentrations for two population characteristics - Low Income and Race & Ethnicity - within Census block groups nearby the Mark Twain National Forest and in counties served by the St. Louis Urban Connections program. Data is derived from 2018-2022 American Community Survey estimates. Each population characteristic layer contains the results from three separate analysis areas - Western Mark Twain NF, Eastern Mark Twain NF, and St. Louis Counties.

The Population Characteristics map includes feature layers that show relative concentrations for either Low Income or Race & Ethnicity for Census block groups within approximately 25 miles of the Mark Twain National Forest, divided into an eastern and a western analysis area, and the nine counties served by the St. Louis Urban Connections program. Data estimates are derived from the 2018-2022 American Community Survey tables C17002 and B03002 for Low Income and Race & Ethnicity, respectively. Low Income is defined by the number of individuals within a household who reported income less than 200% of the federal poverty threshold. Race & Ethnicity includes all individuals who identify as Hispanic or a person of color (POC). The map includes overlay layers for each population characteristic indicating where the estimate is uncertain.Reference layers: National Forest Administrative Boundary; Mark Twain NF Ranger Districts; Mark Twain Forest Service Ownership; Incorporated Places; Census Designated Places; Census Reservation & Tribal Lands; Counties; Census Blocks with no housingAnalysis layers: Low Income Concentration Levels; Race & Ethnicity Concentration Levels; Estimate Uncertain for Low Income; Estimate Uncertain for Race & EthnicityThe Concentration Level layers indicate relative proportions of low income individuals for each block group by assigning a "concentration level ("Very Low or None ( less than 20%), Low, Somewhat Low, Proportionate (~100%), Somewhat High, High, Very High, Extremely High (greater than 200%)). The Estimate Uncertain overlay indicates when there is some uncertainty in the concentration level assignment due the range of values between the lower bound to upper bound ACS estimates.Using this AGOL map: Clicking on an area within the map will display a pop-up that carousels through the relevant layers for that location on the map. Pop-ups for each block group"s concentration level include charts showing the population estimates of low income people or Hispanic & people of color for each geographic feature. Additionally, the pop-ups for these three layers include the lower bound and upper bound values of the confidence interval for each feature.
