    Description
    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the St. Louis population over the last 20 plus years. It lists the population for each year, along with the year on year change in population, as well as the change in percentage terms for each year. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population change of St. Louis across the last two decades. For example, using this dataset, we can identify if the population is declining or increasing. If there is a change, when the population peaked, or if it is still growing and has not reached its peak. We can also compare the trend with the overall trend of United States population over the same period of time.

    Key observations

In 2023, the population of St. Louis was 281,754, a 1.55% decrease year-by-year from 2022. Previously, in 2022, St. Louis population was 286,193, a decline of 2.53% compared to a population of 293,622 in 2021. Over the last 20 plus years, between 2000 and 2023, population of St. Louis decreased by 65,183. In this period, the peak population was 346,937 in the year 2000. The numbers suggest that the population has already reached its peak and is showing a trend of decline. Source: U.S. Census Bureau Population Estimates Program (PEP).

    Description
    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the data for the Lake St. Louis, MO population pyramid, which represents the Lake St. Louis population distribution across age and gender, using estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates. It lists the male and female population for each age group, along with the total population for those age groups. Furthermore, the dataset can be utilized to understand the youth dependency ratio, old-age dependency ratio, total dependency ratio, and potential support ratio.

    Key observations

    • Youth dependency ratio, which is the number of children aged 0-14 per 100 persons aged 15-64, for Lake St. Louis, MO, is 23.7.
    • Old-age dependency ratio, which is the number of persons aged 65 or over per 100 persons aged 15-64, for Lake St. Louis, MO, is 30.4.
    • Total dependency ratio for Lake St. Louis, MO is 54.1.
    • Potential support ratio, which is the number of youth (working age population) per elderly, for Lake St. Louis, MO is 3.3.

    Measurement technique
The data presented in this dataset is derived from the latest U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2017-2021 5-Year Estimates. To measure the two variables, namely (a) population and (b) population as a percentage of the total population, we initially analyzed and categorized the data for each of the age groups. For age groups we divided it into roughly a 5 year bucket for ages between 0 and 85. For over 85, we aggregated data into a single group for all ages. For further information regarding these estimates, please feel free to reach out to us via email at research@neilsberg.com.

    St. Louis, Missouri
    Description

As included in this EnviroAtlas dataset, the community level domestic water use is calculated using locally available water use data per capita in gallons of water per day (GPD), distributed dasymetrically, and summarized by census block group. Domestic water use, as defined in this case, is intended to represent residential indoor and outdoor water use (e.g., cooking, hygiene, landscaping, pools, etc.) for primary residences (i.e., excluding second homes and tourism rentals). Two reports were used with city- or water supply authority- level domestic water demand data, in addition to county level data. The 2013 Jefferson County Data Book provides detailed publicly, privately, and self supplied water use and population served for 2013 and covers the Jefferson County, MO portion of the EnviroAtlas study area. The 2019 Census of Missouri Public Water Systems provides detailed publicly supplied water use and population served for 2019 and covers all of Missouri. The 2010 USGS Estimated Use of Water in the United States in 2010 report covers the missing areas, including counties in Illinois within the study area. Data from these reports were weighted across publicly, privately, and self-supplied sources by population served, resulting in a single water use estimate between 25 and 427 GPD for each of the subregions in the study area. This dataset was produced by the US EPA to support research and online mapping activities related to EnviroAtlas. EnviroAtlas (https://www.epa.gov/enviroatlas) allows the user to interact with a web-based, easy-to-use, mapping application to view and analyze multiple ecosystem services for the contiguous United States. The dataset is available as downloadable data (https://edg.epa.gov/data/Public/ORD/EnviroAtlas) or as an EnviroAtlas map service. Additional descriptive information about each attribute in this dataset can be found in its associated EnviroAtlas Fact Sheet (https://www.epa.gov/enviroatlas/enviroatlas-fact-sheets).

The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. The Address Ranges Feature Shapefile (ADDRFEAT.dbf) contains the geospatial edge geometry and attributes of all unsuppressed address ranges for a county or county equivalent area. The term "address range" refers to the collection of all possible structure numbers from the first structure number to the last structure number and all numbers of a specified parity in between along an edge side relative to the direction in which the edge is coded. Single-address address ranges have been suppressed to maintain the confidentiality of the addresses they describe. Multiple coincident address range feature edge records are represented in the shapefile if more than one left or right address ranges are associated to the edge. The ADDRFEAT shapefile contains a record for each address range to street name combination. Address range associated to more than one street name are also represented by multiple coincident address range feature edge records. Note that the ADDRFEAT shapefile includes all unsuppressed address ranges compared to the All Lines Shapefile (EDGES.shp) which only includes the most inclusive address range associated with each side of a street edge. The TIGER/Line shapefile contain potential address ranges, not individual addresses. The address ranges in the TIGER/Line Files are potential ranges that include the full range of possible structure numbers even though the actual structures may not exist.
