This index includes all types of plats and is not limited to allotment subdivisions (this layer replaces the Allotment layer previously used within our organization). The most common document type included in this index is a subdivision plat, which are referred to as allotments in Stark County. It also includes, but is not limited to replats, annexations, and street dedications. This layer is updated and maintained by the Stark County Auditor Office (SCAO) Tax Map Department. It is by no means complete and is updated as new plats become available to the Tax Map Department. Where available, the attribute table includes a "Subdivision Link", which allows the downloading of an archived folder containing a digital copy of the document(s). There are also links (where available) to the Auditor's and Recorder's sites. Where links are not available, use the record volumes/pages or the instrument number to locate the documents through the Stark County Recorder's Search Records site.

The SCAO uses a Computer-Assisted mass Appraisal (CAMA) database to maintain and store data on properties throughout the county. This data includes market valuations, property owners and addresses, and a variety of other information. This layer combines the parcel boundaries and the CAMA data using a SQL view. TwitterA polygon depiction of property sales from 2010 to the present that occurred in Stark County, Ohio. The Stark County Auditor's Office (SCAO) maintains records of property sales using a Computer-Assisted Mass Appraisal (CAMA) Database. This layer is a SQL view combining the sales records from the CAMA database with the Stark County parcel layer. A new view is created every morning through a combination of python scripts and SQL stored procedures. The data always reflects the most-recent information available from the previous day for both sources.

TwitterThis layer provides quarter-section boundaries for the Stark County tax map. The State of Ohio was subdivided using the Public Land Survey System (PLSS). The PLSS initially subdivided lands into townships, which were numbered using a grid system. Townships were numbered horizontally and cross-referenced with vertical numbers referred to as the range. Each township was further divided into one-mile sections, which were subsequently divided into quarter-sections. This layer does not reflect the initial PLSS boundaries. It respects current jurisdictional boundaries and reflects boundaries within Stark County's cities and villages as well. Each quarter section includes tax district information.

TwitterFor zoning with symbology based on each individual community's zoning map, see Stark County Communities Zoning. This layer was originally conceived as part of a general zoning map for 12 counties across Northeast Ohio. The project was headed by the Northeast Ohio Sustainable Communities Consortium (NEOSCC), with the final map being produced by the Stark County Regional Planning Commission (SCRPC). SCRPC worked with Stark County's cities and villages to obtain zoning data they maintained and then completed the layer by digitizing zoning data for the county's townships with zoning resolutions (some of Stark County's townships and villages are not zoned). Once that project was completed in 2013, SCRPC continued to update zoning data for the townships. City and village data was appended to the layer when provided by those communities.This layer was revamped in 2022 to provide additional capabilities. A field for general zoning was added to show generalized zones to eliminate the need to symbolize by the hundreds of zones across the county. Information for what chapter/section was added, along with hyperlinks to those sections in the codified ordinances and zoning resolutions for communities with that information online. The symbology for the generalized zones were inspired by the American Planning Association's (APA) Land Based Classification Standards (LBCS).

The districts in this layer were digitized through a collaboration between the Stark County Educational Service Center (SCESC) and the Stark County Auditor Office (SCAO). GIS staff used a combination of deeds and other legal descriptions for properties, townships, and other boundaries to create accurate district borders. This layer is static and always up-to-date, as school district boundaries rarely change according to Chapter 3311 of the Ohio Revised Code.

TwitterThe neighborhood boundaries in this layer are used by the Stark County Computer-Assisted Mass Appraisal (CAMA system). Each neighborhood has a unique ID that can be found in the attribute data. The ID is a string with four sets of numbers; e.g. 001-02-03-04. The first three-digit set - 001 in the example - is the tax district. The second set - 02 in the example - is the sub-market area, which is provides a more specific location within a market. An example would be NW Canton. The third set - 03 in the example - is based on the elementary school for residential and agricultural. The third set for Commercial and industrial have a 99. The third set for Residential Condominium will have a 55. The fourth set - 04 in the example - is reserved for individual local neighborhoods (a geographical area defined by natural, man-made or political boundaries, whereby property of similar or complementary use is subject to the same value influences). The fourth set for Manufactured Housing Parks will have an 80-89 series of neighborhoods.

TwitterThis layer is a clip of the Ohio Gridded Soil Survey Geographic (gSSURGO) data published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) through the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). The digital soil survey dataset was developed by the National Cooperative Soil Survey, compiling information from digitized maps and remotely-sensed data. This data is available for download through the USDA NRCS GeoSpatial Data Gateway. Included with the geographic data are tables including tabular data on a variety of soil statistics and attributes. For the convenience of its residents, SCGIS joined the tabular hydric data to the soil survey polygon layer clipped to the Stark County boundary in 2015. This data reflects the last major update to the gSSURGO dataset and SCGIS has no intention of updating or adding additional tabular data to this layer in the future. Each record includes an attachment that displays attribute data in a report format. The report also includes a picture of the original survey. The user should bear in mind that this coverage is only an approximation of the boundaries as originally drafted . Additional details on the digitizing process are available on request.

Download .zipThe A Law Coal Permit Maps county coverage sets were developed using the original mine maps for coal mining and reclamation permits issued under Ohio law from approximately 1966 through 1973. Approximately 1111 A-Permits were issued during this time period, however, only 350 records could be located and captured at this time. The Division of Mineral Resources Management will continue to search for missing A permit archival records as resources allow; additional A permit data may be added to this existing coverage in the future.
Ohio started issuing coal mining licenses in the 1940s. The earliest license and permit requirements were minimal and sometimes did not include submittal of a map or other delineation of the mined area. Significant changes to legal requirements are reflected by the alphabetical designation of each subsequent law revision, i.e., earlier A-law permits (circa 1966) through contemporary D-law permits. The ODNR-Division of Mineral Resources Management (DMRM) has attempted to create as complete a database as possible from available archive records, however, research has identified missing permit files. Thus, this GIS data is known to be incomplete due to the loss of archival records.
The A law permit maps were scanned at a density of 200 dots per inch (dpi). The scanned image was then heads-up digitized using Microstation computer aided design software (CAD) to create design files grouped by county location. Data captured within the design file includes permit boundary and affected boundary and associated attributes. When available, test hole locations and associated attributes were also captured. The design file was then "placed-to-ground" using ODNR Division of Geological Survey's "ODNR Land Subdivision Background Design Files" NAD83 State Plane coverages and DOQQ aerial images obtained through the Ohio Geographically Referenced Information Program (OGRIP)/Ohio Department of Administrative Services. The design file was then converted to ARC/INFO coverage and projected to State Plane Ohio Coordinates, NAD83:
