    Introduction

Infographic Statistics: Infographics have emerged as a powerful tool in data communication, significantly enhancing content engagement and information retention. Approximately 60% of businesses have integrated infographics into their content strategies, recognizing their effectiveness in conveying complex data succinctly.

Content incorporating images and graphics, such as infographics, can achieve up to 650% higher engagement compared to text-only content. Furthermore, infographics are 30 times more likely to be read than purely textual articles, underscoring their appeal to audiences. The human brain processes visual information more efficiently, with 90% of information transmitted to the brain being visual.

Additionally, 65% of individuals are visual learners, highlighting the importance of visual aids in learning and information dissemination. When information is paired with relevant images, people retain 65% of the information three days later, compared to only 10% when it is presented without visuals.

These statistics demonstrate the critical role of infographics in enhancing communication, improving comprehension, and increasing audience engagement across various platforms.

    Description

This report presents key statistics on activity in the criminal justice system for England and Wales. It provides information up to the year ending September 2022 with accompanying commentary, analysis and presentation of longer-term trends.

Between May 2023 and January 2024, work was undertaken to develop and deliver significant improvements to the criminal court sentencing data. For transparency, we have updated the annual interactive data tools published in CJSQ 2022 Q4 (May 2023 release) to ensure users have access to the revised figures for breakdowns by offence characteristics and offender demographics – these replace previous versions of the tools, which have been moved to a separate folder on the CJSQ 2022 Q4 landing page for archiving, but we urge users to use the new versions. While trends across the series remain reliable, users may find differences in figures between 2016 and 2017 - particularly at a detailed offence level or for specific sentencing outcomes. Users should consult the technical appendix for explanations of notable impacts due to the change in data processing methods between 2016 and 2017.

As a result, the Q4 2022 CJSQ publication has been updated to include revised annual tools, overview tables, technical guide and a new technical appendix. The commentary (including Statistician’s comment) and infographic are still based on the old data system and should not be used for exact figures.

    Statistician’s comment:

The figures published today, for 2022, demonstrate the continued recovery of the Criminal Justice System (CJS) since the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and covers the period of the Criminal Bar Association (CBA) action from April to October 2022, which may have impacted convictions at the Crown Court during the period. Prosecutions and convictions have increased in the latest year, however, they both remained below levels in 2019. The increase in the latest year was driven by summary offences, while prosecutions for indictable offences decreased. Prosecutions for theft increased for the first time since 2012 and sexual offences increased for the fourth consecutive year since 2018. Convictions for violence against the person decreased for the first time since 2020. The custody rate for indictable offences has risen to levels seen in 2020 at 34% in the latest year, after a fall in 2021. In the latest year, the average custodial sentence length (ACSL) for indictable offences has fallen slightly, although it has risen for most of the last 10 years.

    Description

    Abstract

The Population and Housing Census 2021 was the 9th census carried out in Tonga since 1956, and the 7th census conducted by the Statistics Department. The Population and Housing Census is a vast and complex undertaking. It is certainly the largest statistical exercise we can contemplate, touching, as it does, every individual and household in the Kingdom. The result of the census has an important role in producing official statistics for Tonga and providing fundamental information for measuring SDG indicators. The 2021 Tonga Population and Housing Census is the third census undertaken following the 5-year interval census. This census will provide up-to-date information regarding the size, distribution, and structure of the Tonga population as well as other social and economic information. Periodic national population and housing census are critical to countries' development policy and planning efforts, in that they represent from most countries' only national snapshot of its social, demographic, and economic conditions, as well as information on recent developments in these areas, that impact on the overall well-being of its population. Population Census provides us with the opportunity to get an accurate, comprehensive and consistent picture of the country's population. The results are invaluable for policy formation, planning and effective targeting of resources. It provides the only source of directly comparable statistics both for small areas and different population groups. It is used as a reference base for many statistical series such as population profiles, infographics and detailed demographic analysis; population estimates, projections and sample survey frame. The census date was midnight, the 30th of November 2021, everyone in Tonga was counted, so that leaves no one behind through the census. The Census of Population and Housing 2021 Volume 1 is the first of two statistical publications of detailed census results. The report comprises detailed statistical tables to facilitate users carrying out more comprehensive studies and further analyses. The Census 2021 was conducted under challenging conditions with the evolving COVID - 19 situation and the significant disruptions of the Volcanic Eruption. The success of the 2021 Tonga Population and Housing Census was made possible with by all participating households who had given their full support and co-operation to the Census. Also the continuous commitment of the all the staff of Tonga Statistics Department.
