This analysis provides estimates of employment in DCMS sectors based on socio-economic background, using the Labour Force Survey (LFS) for July 2020 to September 2020. The LFS asks respondents the job of main earner at age 14, and then matches this to a socio-economic group.
25 September 2024: Employment in DCMS sectors by socio-economic background: July to September 2020 data has been revised and re-published here: DCMS Economic Estimates: Employment, April 2023 to March 2024
This analysis provides the Gross Value Added (GVA) in 2019 for DCMS clusters and for Civil Society. The figures show that in 2019, the DCMS Clusters contributed £291.9 bn to the UK economy, accounting for 14.8% of UK GVA (expressed in current prices). The largest cluster was Digital, which added £116.3 bn in GVA in 2019, and the smallest was Gambling (£8.3 bn).

This analysis provides provisional estimates of Gross Value Added (adjusted for inflation) for DCMS sectors (excluding Civil Society) for every month in 2019 and 2020. These timely estimates should only be used to illustrate general trends, rather than be taken as definitive figures. These figures will not be as accurate as our annual National Statistics release of gross value added for DCMS sectors (which will be published in Winter 2021).
We estimate that the gross value added of DCMS sectors (excluding Civil Society) shrank by 18% in real terms for March to December 2020 (a loss of £41 billion), compared to the same period in 2019. By sector this varied from -5% (Telecoms) to -37% (Tourism). In comparison, the UK economy as a whole shrank by 11%.
This section holds other statistics published alongside the further education and skills statistics publications. These are not national statistics, but complement the information in the main release.

This tool provides users with the ability to create bespoke cross tabs and charts on consumption by property attributes and characteristics, based on the data available from NEED. 2 variables can be selected to be considered at once (such as property age and property type), with mean, median or number of observations shown in the table. There is also a choice of fuel (electricity or gas). Data for each year from 2005 to 2016 are available.
Figures provided in the latest version of the tool (June 2018) are based on data used in the June 2018 National Energy Efficiency Data-Framework (NEED) publication. More information on the development of the framework, headline results and data quality are available in the publication. There are also additional detailed tables including distributions of consumption and estimates at local authority level. All relevant outputs can be found on the National Energy Efficiency Data-Framework (NEED) report: summary of analysis 2018 page. The data used to create these tables are available as a comma separated value (csv) file also available on this page.
If you have any queries or comments on these outputs please contact: energyefficiency.stats@beis.gov.uk.

NOTICE: A significant issue with the precipitation variables in this dataset was found in January 2015. The precipitation data has two fewer columns than the temperature data, one from each edge. When merged into the same coordinate system, this caused the temperature data to be offset to the west by one pixel. The dataset is now broken into two sub-datasets, one for precipitation and one for temperature. This corrects the pixel location. Any use of precipitation data from this dataset from September 2013, when new precipitation files containing the issue were introduced, should be considered slightly in error. For more information please contact cida@usgs.gov.In this project, we used an advanced statistical downscaling method that combines high-resolution observations with outputs from 16 different global climate models based on 4 future emission scenarios to generate the most comprehensive dataset of daily temperature and precipitation projections available for climate change impacts in the U.S. The gridded dataset covers the continental United States, southern Canada and northern Mexico at one-eighth degree resolution and Alaska at one-half degree resolution. The high-resolution projections produced by this work have been rigorously quality-controlled for both errors and biases in the global climate and statistical downscaling models. We also calculated projected future changes in a broad range of impact-relevant indicators, from seasonal temperature to extreme precipitation days. The results of the error and bias tests and the indicator calculations are made available as part of this database. Additional information and raw data from this dataset can be found here: https://cida.usgs.gov/thredds/catalog.html Before using this dataset, please review the material summarized here: https://my.usgs.gov/confluence/display/GeoDataPortal/2014/04/16/Notice%3A+Evaluation+of+Maurer+gridded+observational+datasets+and+their+impacts+on+downscaled+products Note that the CONUS temperature and precipitation data were split into two sub datasets in January 2015. This was done because the precipitation data uses a slightly different longitude axis than the temperature data.
