The Alberta Crop Report provides timely provincial and regional summaries of crop production in Alberta during the crop season, and is used by industry and other stakeholders for various purposes, including drought monitoring and forecasting of production insurance payments. The report is also used to validate some of the Alberta crop estimates generated by Statistics Canada. Data for the report is collected through regular surveys on moisture and crop conditions, progress of seeding and harvesting, insect and disease situation, yield potential and crop quality, etc., along with information from other sources. Alberta Agriculture and Forestry (AF) has delivered the Alberta Crop Reporting Program to clients since 1940.

Small area data on field crops show seeded and harvested area, yield and production figures for most principal field crops and some special crops in Canada, at the census agricultural region level (except for Quebec, where small areas are defined by provincial administrative boundaries). The provinces covered are British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec. The data are available in metric and imperial units of measure, for periods ranging from 1976 to 2024. The data are derived from the results of the November Farm Survey of the preceding year, of which the production estimates were only expressed at the provincial level in early December.

The “Biomass Agriculture Inventory 1-in-20 Probability” dataset is a standalone summary table that contains the estimated 1-in-20 year low for agricultural residue yield and crop production for each Biomass Report Framework. It provides the fifth percentile values for the years 1985-2010. It includes straw or stover yield information for barley, wheat, flax, oats and corn, and crop production information for barley, wheat, flax, oats, corn, canola and soybean. Residue yields were derived from crop-to-residue ratios and climactic data. Crop production area is the area reported as being in agricultural production by Statistics Canada. This dataset also includes information about the type of tillage used in the area, demand for straw used for cattle bedding and feed, and the amount of residue that should remain on the field to prevent soil erosion, which is determined by the type of tillage used.

It provides the median annual value for the years 1985-2010. It includes straw or stover yield information for barley, wheat, flax, oats and corn, and crop production information for barley, wheat, flax, oats, corn, canola and soybean. Residue yields were derived from crop-to-residue ratios and climactic data. Crop production area is the area reported as being in agricultural production by Statistics Canada. This dataset also includes information about the type of tillage used in the area, demand for straw used for cattle bedding and feed, and the amount of residue that should remain on the field to prevent soil erosion, which is determined by the type of tillage used.

This dataset also includes information about the type of tillage used in the area and demand for straw for cattle bedding and feed. These values are derived from Statistics Canada data. Additionally, the dataset includes the amount of agricultural residue calculated as necessary to remain on the field to prevent soil degradation. Soil degradation is determined by the type of tillage in use as well as the landscape of the area.
