    Description

The City of Winnipeg Diversity Dashboard data conform to Statistics Canada anonymization standards.

For anonymization - when there are fewer than 10 employees who self-declare belonging to an equity group (15 in the case of Persons with Disabilities), the exact percentage of individuals in that category is redacted for privacy and the "Too few to report" column flag is set to "TRUE".

The "Too few to report" column flag is also set to "TRUE" when data was not yet collected (e.g. for 2SLGBTQQIA+ Peoples before 2020).

The City of Winnipeg has updated its terminology through community consultation and is committed to refining it as needed. Because of this, our terminology in this open data set may change.

On our journey towards greater inclusion, the City of Winnipeg understands the importance of language and it will embrace new terminology as it evolves and is recommended and / or determined by the equity groups at the City.

    Description

The PCCF is a digital file which provides a correspondence between the CPC six-character postal code and Statistics Canada’s standard geographic areas for which census data and other statistics are produced. Through the link between postal codes and standard geographic areas, the PCCF permits the integration of data from various sources. The Single Link Indicator provides one best link for every postal code, as there are multiple records for many postal codes. To obtain the postal code conversion file or for questions, consult the DLI contact at your educational institution. New to the June 2022 version, a separate data file is available for retired postal codes. The retired file uses the same record layout as the PCCF file. The same syntax file can be used for both the PCCF data file and the retired data file. The geographic coordinates, which represent the standard geostatistical areas linked to each postal code on the PCCF, are commonly used to map the distribution of data for spatial analysis (e.g., clients, activities). The location information is a powerful tool for marketing, planning, or research purposes. In April 1983, the Statistical Geomatics Centre released the first version of the PCCF, which linked postal codes to 1981 Census geographic areas and included geographic coordinates. Since then, the file has been updated on a regular basis to reflect changes. For this release of the PCCF, the postal codes are directly geocoded to 2021 Census geographic areas. A quality indicator for the confidence of this linkage is available in the PCCF.

    Description

The Canadian Business Patterns contains data that reflects counts of business locations (as of December 2008) and business establishments (prior to December 2009) by: 9 employment size ranges, including "indeterminate" (as of December 1997); geography groupings: province/territory, census division, census subdivision (before December 2008), census metropolitan area and census agglomeration; and industry using the North American Industry Classification System (tables at the 2, 3, 4 and 6-digit level) as of December 1998. Before December 2004, these data were also presented using the Standard Industrial Classification (tables at the 1, 2, 3 and 4-digit level). The data published in the Canadian Business Patterns represents the current number of locations or establishments for a specific reference period which is taken from the Business Register Central Frame Data Base. It is not intended for use as a time series because changes that affect the continuity of the data might resu lt from changes in methodology. Some examples are: the change to another version of the Standard Geographical Classification (SGC) or the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS), the addition of the new territory of Nunavut and new rules to better identify inactive units.

These files, produced by Statistics Canada International Trade Division, give the value of goods (in CDN) and quantities by 2, 4, 6, 8 or 10 -digit SITC Rev.3 code. Trade figures are divided into imports and exports relative to Canada. Currently the Export file is only referenced at the 8 digit level. The imports file is referenced at the 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 digit level. Since the files are so large, the imports have been divided into 5 sections based on the commodities. These are referenced below in the Documentation Section. Users may also be interested in the WorldTrade Database which contains information on imports and exports between any two countries, at the 4 digit level. This data contains annual figures from 1980-1997.

    Description

The Postal Code Conversion File (PCCF) is a digital file which provides a correspondence between the Canada Post Corporation (CPC) six-character postal code and Statistics Canada's standard geographic areas for which census data and other statistics are produced. The geographic coordinates attached to each postal code on the PCCF are commonly used to map the distribution of data for spatial analysis (e.g., clients, activities). The location information is a powerful tool for planning, or research purposes. In April 1983, the Geography Division released the first version of the Postal Code Conversion File, which linked postal codes to census geographic areas and included geographic coordinates. Since then, the file has been updated on a regular basis to reflect postal code changes provided by Canada Post Corporation. Every five years, the postal code linkages on the Postal Code Conversion File are “converted” to the latest census geographic areas. The original Postal Code Conversion File was linked to the 1981 Census geographic areas. Since then, the Postal Code Conversion File has undergone four “conversions”, following the 1986, 1991, 1996 and 2001 censuses. A revised automated system was used for the 1996-2001 conversion. The 2001 Census postal codes reported by respondents were used to validate the Postal Code Conversion File links.
