    The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH) has shared vital statistics data (birth and mortality data) online. Birth data includes demographic information on the mother, including age, race, and education. Mortality data includes demographic information on the deceased, such as age, sex, race, and education. The publicly-available birth and death micro-SAS datasets provide aggregate data on the community district, zip code, and census tract levels. Researchers may also complete an application process to request line-listed and de-identified vital statistics data from NYC DOHMH.

    The dataset includes CHHA and LTHHCP information at the reporting agency level of the total number of patients, cases, and discharges for the reporting year.

    CHHAs/LTHHCPs provide part time, intermittent, skilled services which are of a preventative, therapeutic, rehabilitative, health guidance and/or supportive nature to persons at home. Home health services include nursing services; home health aide services; medical supplies, equipment, and appliances suitable for use in the home; and at least one additional service that may include physical therapy; occupational therapy; speech pathology; nutritional services; and medical social services.

    The purpose of collecting data from service providers is to obtain their demographic information as well as past operational statistics like volume, patient census, types of services provided, or workload information. This data is self-reported annually.

    Note: As of 1/13/24, this dataset is no longer updated. This dataset reports daily on the number of people vaccinated by New York providers who have received a dose of the updated COVID-19 vaccine authorized on September 12, 2023. New York providers include hospitals, pharmacies, and other providers registered with the State to serve as points of distribution.

    This dataset is created by the New York State Department of Health from data reported to the New York State Immunization Information System (NYSIIS). County-level vaccination data is based on data reported to NYSIIS by the providers administering vaccines. Residency is self-reported by the individual being vaccinated. This dataset includes limited data on vaccines administered through Federal entities (Veterans Health Administration) or performed outside of New York State to New York residents and will not be reflective of every dose administered to New York State residents in those settings. It does not include residents of New York City. NYSIIS data is used for county-level statistics.

    These data represent a lower-bound estimate on updated COVID-19 vaccination totals. With the end of the COVID-19 public health emergency, COVID-19 vaccination records are no longer required to be submitted to NYSIIS for adults 19+. Reporting remains mandatory for children 18 and under.

    Description

    This data set contains baselines used to calculate shoreline rate of change statistics for New York State coastal wetlands. Analysis was performed in ArcMap 10.5.1 using the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS), created by U.S. Geological Survey, version 5.0, and polyline vector historical shorelines from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) . The baselines used in the analysis serve as the originating point for the orthogonal transects cast by the DSAS software. The transects intersect each shoreline establishing intersection measurement points, which were then used to calculate the rates. U.S. Fish and Wildlife National Wetland Inventory polygon vector data provided extents of coastal wetland boundaries, and determined where baselines were drawn. Baselines were then constructed parallel to NOAA shoreline vectors. Baselines were manually created using standard ArcMap 'Create Features' tools, and do not represent real-world features.

    The data presented in this dataset is derived from the latest U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates. To measure the three variables, namely (a) Population (Male), (b) Population (Female), and (c) Gender Ratio (Males per 100 Females), we initially analyzed and categorized the data for each of the gender classifications (biological sex) reported by the US Census Bureau across 18 age groups, ranging from under 5 years to 85 years and above.     About this dataset

    Context

    The dataset tabulates the population of New York County by gender across 18 age groups. It lists the male and female population in each age group along with the gender ratio for New York County. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population distribution of New York County by gender and age. For example, using this dataset, we can identify the largest age group for both Men and Women in New York County. Additionally, it can be used to see how the gender ratio changes from birth to senior most age group and male to female ratio across each age group for New York County.

    Scope of gender :

    Please note that American Community Survey asks a question about the respondents current sex, but not about gender, sexual orientation, or sex at birth. Our research and this dataset mirrors the data reported as Male and Female for gender distribution analysis.

    • Age Group: This column displays the age group for the New York County population analysis. Total expected values are 18 and are define above in the age groups section.
    • Population (Male): The male population in the New York County is shown in the following column.
    • Population (Female): The female population in the New York County is shown in the following column.
    • Gender Ratio: Also known as the sex ratio, this column displays the number of males per 100 females in New York County for each age group.

The Low- to Moderate-Income (LMI) New York State (NYS) Census Population Analysis dataset is resultant from the LMI market database designed by APPRISE as part of the NYSERDA LMI Market Characterization Study (https://www.nyserda.ny.gov/lmi-tool). All data are derived from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year Public Use Microdata Sample (PUMS) files for 2013, 2014, and 2015.     This dataset includes the cumulative number and percent of healthcare facility-reported fatalities for patients with lab-confirmed COVID-19 disease by reporting date and age group. This dataset does not include fatalities related to COVID-19 disease that did not occur at a hospital, nursing home, or adult care facility. The primary goal of publishing this dataset is to provide users with information about healthcare facility fatalities among patients with lab-confirmed COVID-19 disease.

    The information in this dataset is also updated daily on the NYS COVID-19 Tracker at https://www.ny.gov/covid-19tracker.

    The data source for this dataset is the daily COVID-19 survey through the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) Health Electronic Response Data System (HERDS). Hospitals, nursing homes, and adult care facilities are required to complete this survey daily. The information from the survey is used for statewide surveillance, planning, resource allocation, and emergency response activities. Hospitals began reporting for the HERDS COVID-19 survey in March 2020, while Nursing Homes and Adult Care Facilities began reporting in April 2020. It is important to note that fatalities related to COVID-19 disease that occurred prior to the first publication dates are also included.

    The fatality numbers in this dataset are calculated by assigning age groups to each patient based on the patient age, then summing the patient fatalities within each age group, as of each reporting date. The statewide total fatality numbers are calculated by summing the number of fatalities across all age groups, by reporting date. The fatality percentages are calculated by dividing the number of fatalities in each age group by the statewide total number of fatalities, by reporting date. The fatality numbers represent the cumulative number of fatalities that have been reported as of each reporting date.

    About this dataset

    Context

    The dataset tabulates the New York population over the last 20 plus years. It lists the population for each year, along with the year on year change in population, as well as the change in percentage terms for each year. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population change of New York across the last two decades. For example, using this dataset, we can identify if the population is declining or increasing. If there is a change, when the population peaked, or if it is still growing and has not reached its peak. We can also compare the trend with the overall trend of United States population over the same period of time.

    Key observations

    In 2024, the population of New York was 19.87 million, a 0.66% increase year-by-year from 2023. Previously, in 2023, New York population was 19.74 million, an increase of 0.17% compared to a population of 19.7 million in 2022. Over the last 20 plus years, between 2000 and 2024, population of New York increased by 870,289. In this period, the peak population was 20.11 million in the year 2020. To measure the three variables, namely (a) Population (Male), (b) Population (Female), and (c) Gender Ratio (Males per 100 Females), we initially analyzed and categorized the data for each of the gender classifications (biological sex) reported by the US Census Bureau across 18 age groups, ranging from under 5 years to 85 years and above.     About this dataset

    Context

    The dataset tabulates the population of Huntington town by gender across 18 age groups. It lists the male and female population in each age group along with the gender ratio for Huntington town. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population distribution of Huntington town by gender and age. For example, using this dataset, we can identify the largest age group for both Men and Women in Huntington town. Additionally, it can be used to see how the gender ratio changes from birth to senior most age group and male to female ratio across each age group for Huntington town.

    Description

    There has been little research on United States homicide rates from a long-term perspective, primarily because there has been no consistent data series on a particular place preceding the Uniform Crime Reports (UCR), which began its first full year in 1931. To fill this research gap, this project created a data series on homicides per capita for New York City that spans two centuries. The goal was to create a site-specific, individual-based data series that could be used to examine major social shifts related to homicide, such as mass immigration, urban growth, war, demographic changes, and changes in laws. Data were also gathered on various other sites, particularly in England, to allow for comparisons on important issues, such as the post-World War II wave of violence. The basic approach to the data collection was to obtain the best possible estimate of annual counts and the most complete information on individual homicides. The annual count data (Parts 1 and 3) were derived from multiple sources, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Uniform Crime Reports and Supplementary Homicide Reports, as well as other official counts from the New York City Police Department and the City Inspector in the early 19th century. The data include a combined count of murder and manslaughter because charge bargaining often blurs this legal distinction. The individual-level data (Part 2) were drawn from coroners' indictments held by the New York City Municipal Archives, and from daily newspapers. Duplication was avoided by keeping a record for each victim. The estimation technique known as "capture-recapture" was used to estimate homicides not listed in either source. Part 1 variables include counts of New York City homicides, arrests, and convictions, as well as the homicide rate, race or ethnicity and gender of victims, type of weapon used, and source of data. Part 2 includes the date of the murder, the age, sex, and race of the offender and victim, and whether the case led to an arrest, trial, conviction, execution, or pardon. Part 3 contains annual homicide counts and rates for various comparison sites including Liverpool, London, Kent, Canada, Baltimore, Los Angeles, Seattle, and San Francisco.

Description

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH) has shared vital statistics data (birth and mortality data) online. Birth data includes demographic information on the mother, including age, race, and education. Mortality data includes demographic information on the deceased, such as age, sex, race, and education. The publicly-available birth and death micro-SAS datasets provide aggregate data on the community district, zip code, and census tract levels. Researchers may also complete an application process to request line-listed and de-identified vital statistics data from NYC DOHMH.
