    Introduction

Diversity and Inclusion Statistics: Diversity and inclusion have become key focal points for organizations aiming to foster equitable work environments. Companies with higher racial and ethnic diversity are more likely to outperform their peers in financial returns. Women represent 47% of the global workforce, yet they hold only 24% of senior leadership positions.

Additionally, many employees believe that a diverse and inclusive culture drives innovation. With a significant percentage of job seekers considering workplace diversity as an important factor when evaluating job offers, it’s clear that diversity and inclusion are not just ethical imperatives but critical business strategies.

    Description

    Introduction

Diversity in Tech Statistics: Despite the efforts towards inclusivity in the tech rural in 2024, this remains a hot topic. The tech industry, in as much as it is highly regarded with the level of its innovations and growth, has been fine in the years gone by regarding some issues. The problems have mostly been on the issues of representation, especially on the side of women, minority groups, and other sociological groups.

CTS dropped. Inevitably, recent years have seen advances, and from the last diversity in tech statistics, some positive and negative effects are also present. Studies reveal that in the tech industry, only 2.3% of the workforce identifies as LGBTQ+, indicating that individuals belonging to sexual minorities are severely underrepresented. Despite these obstacles, it is hoped that there will be greener pastures.

For these reasons, there is still hope. More and more organisations are implementing strategies for these issues, and some are even investing millions of dollars in them. To illustrate, in the case of tech firms like Google and Microsoft, they have spent millions of dollars on diversity outreach to hire and retain people who belong to minorities. Ladies and gentlemen, if we wish to show the industry's progress, we must address the statistical aspect as well, for it is necessary to create an industry that balances and supports everyone who participates.

    Description

Statistics instructors have a unique opportunity to engage students in work around Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) since there is an abundance of data that can be incorporated into courses with DEI contexts. An online survey was conducted to explore how faculty teaching introductory college statistics integrate DEI into their courses. About 300 participants reflected on their institution’s priorities related to DEI and what has aided and constrained them from incorporating DEI practices when teaching statistics. We found that 77% of participants indicated that they do include DEI practices in their teaching. Results show that participants at research intensive institutions are least likely to incorporate DEI, and those that have more years of teaching experience are less likely to incorporate DEI into their courses. Constraints that prevent instructors from incorporating DEI-related activities include lack of resources and time and concern about student discomfort. Additionally, those who felt most prepared to incorporate DEI were typically individuals who had engaged in professional development focused on DEI and teaching. Since there has not been a survey of this nature, these results will be useful as a metric for the inclusion of DEI into introductory statistics classes.
