    Description

At the end of March and the beginning of April 2020, directly after COVID-19 hit Sweden, only 15 percent of the companies in the supply, construction, and trade industries in Sweden experienced large problems with production due to delayed deliveries of components. Meanwhile, close to 60 percent had small problems with deliveries and productions. However, in September 2021, things had changed significantly. Almost 50 percent of the companies had large problems, around one third of them had small problems, and less than 20 percent had no problems.

Reduced production and delivery capacity worldwide

After the outbreak of COVID-19 hit the world economy in 2020, there were problems both with the production of singular components such as microchips for cars and electronics, and delivery supply chains worldwide. Not only Sweden's economy was disrupted by this. In the fall of 2021, the United Kingdom experienced shortages of food and petrol.

    Lorry drivers

One of the reasons for the lack of goods in the UK was a lack of lorry drivers due to COVID-19, Brexit, and tax changes. In Europe, the UK experienced the sharpest fall of truck drivers from 2016 to 2020 in absolute numbers, whereas Luxembourg had the highest relative fall. Romania, on the other hand, had the highest increase both in terms of number and percent. Sweden had a small, positive change during these four years.

    Description

This is the fourteenth election study carried out in Sweden in connection with a Swedish general election. Many of the questions are replications of questions asked in one or several of the previous surveys, but there are also a number of questions not asked before. The interview included questions on how much the respondent takes part of political matters in mass media; political interest in general and political discussions among family and friends; important issues when deciding how to vote; and preferred formation of the government after the election as well as person preferred as prime minister. There were also a number of questions on the opinions of the political parties regarding: employment, environment, taxes, the Swedish economy, energy and nuclear power, foreign affairs and security policy, social safety, old-age care, the European Union, refugees, law and order, equality between men and women, education and child care. Political parties and party leaders were to be placed on a scale ranging from strongly dislike to strongly like. Respondents also had to give their opinion on the Social democratic party and the Conservative party and their party leaders with regard to how reliable, inspiring, and sympathetic they are and how much they know about what ordinary people likes. The respondents also had to state how much confidence they had in Swedish politicians. A number of questions dealt with party preference; vote in the September elections; things important when choosing party; votes in earlier elections. As in earlier election studies the respondent had to place the political parties on a political left-right scale. In this survey the political parties also had to be placed on a scale concerning their opinion towards EMU. The respondent also had to place herself/himself on these scales. Purpose: Explain why people vote as they do and why an election ends in a particular way. Track and follow trends in the Swedish electoral democracy and make comparisons with other countries.

    Description

The machinery rental revenue is forecast to drop at a compound annual rate of 4.5% over the five years through 2024 to €139.2 billion, including an estimated decline of 1.8% in 2024. The machinery rental market faces increasing challenges, including slower economic growth and tighter monetary policy. For example, Germany's residential housing sector is seeing a drop in apartment building permits. However, a surge in green construction investments in Nordic nations like Sweden and Denmark promises to offset this slump. Significant infrastructure projects across Europe, driven by public sector strategies post-COVID-19 restrictions, offer lucrative opportunities for equipment rental businesses. For instance, Sunbelt Rentals secured a contract to supply machinery for the UK's HS2 project, demonstrating that large-scale projects can drive industry profit despite current market trends.

An increase in passenger traffic at European airports is set to exceed pre-pandemic levels by 9.2% in 2027, according to ACI Europe, spurred on by growth in budget airlines like Vueling and French Bee. This is set to increase demand for improved ground support equipment due to an uptick in aircraft and faster flight turnarounds. Norway's intent to double power output by expanding offshore wind capacity also presents opportunities for boosted equipment rentals. These green energy projects are encouraging rental companies to invest in new construction equipment to maintain strong sales, reflecting industry trends of rising income and market expansion. The machinery rental revenue is forecast to grow at a compound annual rate of 3.8% over the five years through 2029 to €167.7 billion, while the average industry profit margin is expected to reach 22%.

    Description

Domestic appliance manufacturers specialise in the production of a whole assortment of white goods, from washing machines to refrigerators. These products are considered a necessity in most households, feeding into the everyday lives of the whole European population. The industry's fortunes are typically driven by the health of European households' income levels and the underlying strength of downstream residential construction markets. Revenue is expected to drop at a compound annual rate of 1.2% over the five years through 2024 to €93.8 billion, including an estimated decline of 2.1% in 2024. Recently, domestic appliance manufacturers have faced a turbulent time. Strong housebuilding activity across the continent spurred consistent growth in the lead-up to the pandemic. Operational and supply chain disruption caused by the pandemic led to a slump in demand, though robust consumer spending and a strong rebound in downstream construction activity following the initial easing of restrictions limited the decline. When the pandemic first hit, it was a double blow of reduced operation capacity and government shutdowns of retail outlets that took a toll. Throw in the disruption of downstream construction markets and things were looking gloomy. However, it started to turn around in 2021, with a sharp rebound in residential construction activity causing a surge in demand for white goods. Lingering supply chain disruptions led to material shortages and a hike in costs during this period, which was made worse following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Economy-wide inflationary pressures and a widespread slowdown in housebuilding activity have caused a contraction in revenue following the initial post-pandemic rebound. Revenue is expected to grow at a compound annual rate of 4.3% over the five years through 2029 to €115.8 billion. Looking ahead, there are plenty of challenges, but also several reasons to be optimistic. Weak economic growth and uncertain conditions in downstream housebuilding markets continue to present headwinds in the short term. However, the essential role of white goods in European homes means there's always a strong demand for the industry's products. The rise in smart-home technology will continue to fuel demand for more advanced domestic appliances, while the push for more energy-efficient goods also promises to drive innovation among manufacturers.

    Description

The European legal services industry is in a phase of consolidation, signified by a surge in both intranational and international M&A activity. Challenging economic conditions have hindered demand for legal services, particularly from the corporate market. Demand for countercyclical services has limited a slump in revenue, with law firms advising on restructuring and insolvency issues. Industry revenue is projected to contract at a compound annual rate of 4.1% to €208.3 billion over the five years through 2024. The corporate law service industry has been adversely affected by fluctuating economic conditions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and a rising inflationary environment. Economic uncertainty led to a sharp drop in M&A activity and IPOs, weakening demand for legal services in 2020. However, there was a robust recovery in 2021, with M&A activity in Europe rebounding to a record high. The following year saw a dip again due to soaring inflation and geopolitical tension. Law firms face increasing threats from the expanding in-house legal departments in large companies. Despite these threats, the industry seems resistant to price pressures as companies continue to seek specialised legal services. Revenue is projected to dip at by 2.8% over 2024. Revenue is forecast to swell at a compound annual rate of 3.3% to €245.3 billion over the five years through 2029. An improving economic climate will fuel business activity, encouraging greater dealmaking activity and business spending to the benefit of law firms. Technological advancements offer further opportunities for legal services as they enable increased efficiency by automating repetitive tasks. However, competition will continue to intensify, providing some threats to legal services providers.

    Description

This is the fifteenth election study carried out in Sweden in connection with a Swedish general election. Many of the questions are replications of questions asked in one or several of the previous surveys, but there are also a number of questions not asked before.

The interview included questions on how much the respondent takes part of political matters in mass media; political interest in general and political discussions among family and friends; important issues when deciding how to vote; and preferred formation of the government after the election and person preferred as prime minister, as well as opinion on government and opposition 1998-2002 and assumptions how the Social Democrats and the bourgeois parties respectively would manage as governing party/parties 2002-2006. There were also a number of questions on the opinions of the political parties regarding: employment, the Swedish economy, taxes, the conditions for enterprise, environment, energy and nuclear power, social security, care of the elderly, health and medical service, child care, school and education, ethics and moral, law and order, equality, sparsely-populated areas, foreign affairs and security policy, aid to developing countries, the European Union, EMU, refugees and immigration, US war on terrorism, Middle East conflict, and NATO. The respondent had to rate a great number of suggestions occuring in the political debate.

    Purpose:

Explain why people vote as they do and why an election ends in a particular way. Track and follow trends in the Swedish electoral democracy and make comparisons with other countries.
