This dataset includes information from inspection reports of permitted swimming pools, recirculating spray pads, and hot tubs/spas in Allegheny County. In conjunction with the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA), and under the framework of their SAFE Aquatic Data Standard, a selection of fields was identified to be pulled from aquatic facility inspection reports into this compiled dataset.
The fields represent information that would be collected at a typical inspection of an aquatic facility not only in Allegheny County, but in other jurisdictions across the United States. These fields include things like disinfectant level, if the water was clear during the inspection, if appropriate safety equipment was present & in good repair, etc. The ultimate hope is that if other jurisdictions establish an online open data portal with information that corresponds with the SAFE Aquatic Data Standard, data could be compared and analyzed in a standardized way across the US, something that cannot currently be accomplished in an efficient manner due to the lack of a standardized data collection system. Allegheny County is one of only a handful of other jurisdictions that was selected by NEHA to be the pioneers of this new SAFE aquatic data standard.
