Tanzania is the only country in the world which has allocated more than 25% of its total area for wildlife, national parks, and protected areas.There are 16 national parks in Tanzania, 28 game reserves, 44 game-controlled areas, two marine parks and one conservation area.

Tanzania’s tourist attractions include the Serengeti plains, which hosts the largest terrestrial mammal migration in the world; the Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and home to the highest density of big game in Africa; Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain; and the Mafia Island marine park; among many others. The scenery, topography, rich culture and very friendly people provide for excellent cultural tourism, beach holidays, honeymooning, game hunting, historical and archaeological ventures – and certainly the best wildlife photography safaris in the world.

The objective of this hackathon is to develop a machine learning model that can classify the range of expenditures a tourist spends in Tanzania. The model can be used by different tour operators and the Tanzania Tourism Board to automatically help tourists across the world estimate their expenditure before visiting Tanzania.

Around **** thousand international tourists visited Zanzibar, Tanzania, in September 2021. Compared to the same month in 2020, the number of visitors increased from roughly five thousand. The Tanzanian archipelago has shown signs of recovery concerning tourist visits, which declined sharply in 2020 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Arrivals of United Republic of Tanzania increased by 1.39% from 1,506,000 number in 2018 to 1,527,000 number in 2019. Since the 0.26% fall in 2015, arrivals shot up by 34.30% in 2019. International inbound tourists (overnight visitors) are the number of tourists who travel to a country other than that in which they have their usual residence, but outside their usual environment, for a period not exceeding 12 months and whose main purpose in visiting is other than an activity remunerated from within the country visited. When data on number of tourists are not available, the number of visitors, which includes tourists, same-day visitors, cruise passengers, and crew members, is shown instead. Sources and collection methods for arrivals differ across countries. In some cases data are from border statistics (police, immigration, and the like) and supplemented by border surveys. In other cases data are from tourism accommodation establishments. For some countries number of arrivals is limited to arrivals by air and for others to arrivals staying in hotels. Some countries include arrivals of nationals residing abroad while others do not. Caution should thus be used in comparing arrivals across countries. The data on inbound tourists refer to the number of arrivals, not to the number of people traveling. Thus a person who makes several trips to a country during a given period is counted each time as a new arrival.

Tourism expenditure in other countries of United Republic of Tanzania dropped by 9.76% from 818,000,000 current US dollars in 2018 to 738,200,012 current US dollars in 2019. Since the 8.69% jump in 2015, tourism expenditure in other countries plummeted by 42.69% in 2019. Series 3.4

As of 2023, roughly 265,000 visitors from the United States arrived in Kenya, the largest number among all other countries. Over 201,000 visitors came from Uganda, while close to 158,000 were from Tanzania, both neighboring nations. Overall, Kenya recorded over 1.9 million international visitor arrivals that year. This shows a steady post-pandemic recovery since 2020, with the number almost reaching pre-pandemic levels recorded in 2019. Changes in airport movements Due to COVID-19 restrictions, passenger flight landings in Kenya decreased severely in the second quarter of 2020. In May 2020, the traffic in the country’s main airports reduced to less than 200 flights, only a few coming from abroad. Thus, 2020 turned out to record one of the lowest performances in the annual number of flight landings in Kenya. However, by the end of that year, signs of recovery were already spotted. The rebounding trend followed through 2021: Passenger flight landings increased by 40 percent compared to 2020, although the number remained 37.5 percent lower than the pre-coronavirus level. Touristic destination for international visitors Being the home of Mount Kenya, the second-highest mountain in Africa, Kenya attracts many tourists with its rich nature and wildlife. In 2021, nearly 300,000 international visitors chose the country as a holiday destination. This corresponded to roughly 35 percent of the total inbound visits. In 2019, previous to the COVID-19 pandemic, direct earnings from international tourism generated around 2.6 billion U.S. dollars. Inbound visitors spent mostly on accommodation, air passenger transport, and food and beverage services.
