The net indebtedness of the French electricity company EDF Group amounted to over ** billion euros in 2024, after peaking at **** billion euros two years earlier. To face the energy crisis in 2022, the French government decided to nationalize the company to provide an independent source of energy to the country. As of July 2023, the French government owned *** percent of the EDF Group’s capital. One of the big ones EDF Group was one of the worldwide leaders in energy supply. In 2024, it had a revenue of *** billion euros, although its net income amounted to ** billion euros. A considerable share of its revenues was produced by the French nuclear energy sector, which EDF owned entirely, accounting for about ** gigawatts of installed energy capacity. Energy crisis and EDF losses In 2022, EDF had to face unexpected technical problems in the French nuclear fleet. Since EDF’s electricity production decreased in 2022, the company had to increase its energy imports during the global energy crisis.Meanwhile, the French government set measures to protect the national consumers of electricity, which included low tariffs for energy in 2022 and 2023, and an increase in the share of nuclear energy to be sold at regulated prices. The debt of EDF increased as a consequence of importing electricity at high prices and selling it at a price below the market level.

This Country Economic Memorandum analyzes the past five years of economic stabilization and reform in India, and outlines the challenges that lie ahead. It focuses first on how India has fundamentally altered its development strategy, and lists highlights in terms of stabilization and structural reform. It also presents important features of the 1996-97 budget. In addressing future challenges, the report examines fiscal and structural constraints, and, finally, financing requirements. It identifies the challenges facing India, such as: (i) reducing the country's chronically high fiscal deficits; (ii) further liberalizing the economy (agriculture in particular); (iii) meeting the infrastructure challenge; and (iv) ensuring social justice. The report states that fiscal imbalances remain the most important threat to India's long term growth, and that even after significant trade reforms, India's tariff and non-tariff barriers remain among the world's highest. Overregulation remains a problem in important private segments of the economy, namely the financial sector, agriculture, and agro-industry. In the financial sector, the public sector continues to be the major shareholder of India's largest banks, insurance companies, and contractual savings institutions. Finally, the development of India's human resources has been slow in comparison with countries in East Asia or Eastern Europe. The World Bank advises the participants of the Indian Development Forum to support India's ongoing fiscal adjustment and structural reforms through long-term official development assistance for high priority public investments in physical infrastructure and human capital development. This memorandum concludes that with sustained improvements in the utilization of such aid commitments and gradual recourse to debt and non-debt commercial sources, India's remaining external financing needs should be met.

This data consists of remittance, FDI, economic globalization, and financial development dynamics between two region groups, namely: a high remittance and FDI receiving region (European and Central Asian region) and low remittance and FDI receiving region (Sub-Saharan African region) for the period of 1984-2016. These two regions include 44 countries, where 15 highly remittances and FDI receiving developing countries, and 29 less globalized developing countries.
This study requires data on economic globalization and institutions. We have taken data from Gygli, et al. (2019), which is a newly, published KOF economic globalization index dataset in the International monetary fund. This index includes Trade Globalization and Financial Globalization. Trade-in goods, trade regulations, and trade in services, trade taxes, trade partner diversity, tariffs, and trade agreements are included under Trade Globalization. On the other hand, financial globalization is a combination of investment restrictions, portfolio investment, capital account openness, international debt, international Investment Agreements, international reserves, and international income payments. Institutional quality index datasets provided by the International Country Risk Guide (ICRG), which allowed us to test the hypothesis. A total of three control variables that are added to the main model have been proposed in this study, they are as follows, Real GDP per capita, Consumer price index (Inflation), and Gross fixed capital formation. All data are collected from the World Development Indicators and the International Monetary Fund.
