    OSPI is required per RCW 28A.300.615 to collect the following five pieces of information about substitute teachers who were hired at each district regardless of duration or frequency of employment per school year. The number of substitute teachers hired per school year; The number of hours worked by each substitute teacher; The number of substitute teachers that received benefits under the school employees' benefits board; The full daily compensation rate per substitute teacher; and The reason for hiring the substitute teacher. The following data displays summarize at the state, ESD, district, and local levels. They also include substitute teachers' demographics, years of teaching experience, and geographic location. These data will be used to better understand districts’ hiring and compensation for long-term and short-term staffing needs. It can also be used to analyze support and resource needs for effective hiring, support, development, and retention of substitute teachers. Important notes about this data display: These data were provided by districts from the previous school year Substitute teachers may work in more than one district and for more than one reason.     Abstract (en): This dataset contains records for each public elementary and secondary school in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, United States territories (American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and the Marshall Islands), and Department of Defense schools outside the United States for 1986-1987. Data were reported to the the National Center for Education Statistics by the state education agencies. Records in this file provide the name and address of the school, the name of the school district or other education agency that operates the school, a type code for the school, number of full-time equivalent classroom teachers, and membership/enrollment by grade. ICPSR data undergo a confidentiality review and are altered when necessary to limit the risk of disclosure. ICPSR also routinely creates ready-to-go data files along with setups in the major statistical software formats as well as standard codebooks to accompany the data. In addition to these procedures, ICPSR performed the following processing steps for this data collection: Checked for undocumented or out-of-range codes.. All public elementary and secondary education agencies in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, United States territories (American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and the Marshall Islands), and Department of Defense schools outside the United States. The codebook is provided as a Portable Document Format (PDF) file. The PDF file format was developed by Adobe Systems Incorporated and can be accessed using PDF reader software, such as the Adobe Acrobat Reader. Information on how to obtain a copy of the Acrobat Reader is provided through the ICPSR Website on the Internet.

    The State Education Contextual Data Resource (S-ECDR) is a historical dataset that compiles state-level indicators of public education systems in the United States from 1919/20 through 1973/74. The dataset includes measures related to public school financing, teacher characteristics, school and classroom contexts, and segregation and desegregation in the U.S. South. Data were drawn from four historical sources: the Biennial Surveys of Education, the Statistics of State School Systems, a 1967 Southern Education Reporting Service report, and U.S. Census Abstracts. The dataset was created to support research on how early-life education contexts influence long-term outcomes in adulthood, particularly for cohorts who attended school during a period of significant expansion in U.S. public education. S-ECDR includes indicators that enable comparisons of state-level education investment, teacher workforce composition, and access to education across time and geographic region. The resource is designed to facilitate linkage to individual-level surveys containing state and year identifiers, enabling analysis of how historical education environments shaped later-life well-being.

    Description

    The Comparable Wage Index for Teachers (CWIFT) is an experimental index created by the Education Demographic and Geographic Estimates (EDGE) program at the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) to facilitate comparison of educational expenditures. The CWIFT is a measure of the systematic, regional variations in the wages and salaries of college graduates who are not PK‌-12 educators as determined by reported occupational category. It can be used by researchers to adjust school district-level finance data in order to make comparisons across geographic areas. The CWIFT is based on data from the American Community Survey (ACS), a continuous household survey conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau. The ACS provides information about the earnings, age, occupation, industry, and other demographic characteristics for millions of U.S. workers. The CWIFT measures wage and salary differences for college graduates, using an analysis that is modeled after the baseline analysis used to construct the original CWI released by NCES in 2006.

    This data collection, a revised version of SCHOOLS AND STAFFING SURVEY, 1990-1991 [UNITED STATES]: TEACHER FOLLOW-UP SURVEY, 1991-1992 (ICPSR 6317), is a follow-up to the Teacher Survey in SCHOOLS AND STAFFING SURVEY, 1990-1991 [UNITED STATES]: REVISED VERSION (ICPSR 2745). The Teacher Follow-Up Survey was designed to update data on teacher career patterns and plans and to determine attrition rates. It queried a subsample of teachers in the profession during the school year 1990-1991 and had two components: teachers who left the teaching profession between the school years 1990-1991 and 1991-1992 (former teachers) and teachers who remained in the profession (current teachers). Information in this revised collection is given separately for public school teachers (Part 1) and private school teachers (Part 2). Questions were asked on topics such as current activity, occupation, career patterns, educational pursuits, future plans, attitudes toward the teaching profession, and overall job satisfaction. Data are also available on teachers who remained in the teaching profession but moved to different schools (movers).

    About NTPSThe National Teacher and Principal Survey (NTPS) is a system of related questionnaires that provide descriptive data on the context of elementary and secondary education while also giving policymakers a variety of statistics on the condition of education in the United States.The NTPS is a redesign of the Schools and Staffing Survey (SASS), which the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) conducted from 1987 to 2011. The design of the NTPS is a product of three key goals coming out of the SASS program: flexibility, timeliness, and integration with other Department of Education collections. The NTPS collects data on core topics including teacher and principal preparation, classes taught, school characteristics, and demographics of the teacher and principal labor force every two to three years. In addition, each administration of NTPS contains rotating modules on important education topics such as: professional development, working conditions, and evaluation. This approach allows policy makers and researchers to assess trends on both stable and dynamic topics.Data OrganizationEach table has an associated excel and excel SE file, which are grouped together in a folder in the dataset (one folder per table). The folders are named based on the excel file names, as they were when downloaded from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) website.In the NTPS folder, there is a catalog csv that provides a crosswalk between the folder names and the table titles.The documentation folder contains (1) codebooks for NTPS generated in NCES datalabs, (2) questionnaires for NTPS downloaded from the study website and (3) reports related to NTPS found in the NCES resource library
