This dataset presents locations of telephone exchanges in Australia. The telephone exchanges dataset was digitized in 2012 from the library of imagery held within Geoscience Australia. Image used ranged from 0.15m to 2.5m resolution. The first version of this dataset was subsequently released on the GA website in March 2015. For more information please visit the Geoscience Australia Web Service Portal. Please note: This dataset is a snapshot of Geoscience Australia's web service dataset as on 2019-02-15
This web service provides access to the National Telephone Exchanges dataset and presents the spatial locations of all the known telephone exchange facilities located within Australia, all complemented with feature attribution.

A similar service with a ‘multiCRS’ suffix is available which can support GDA2020, GDA94 and WGS84 = GDA2020 environments. In due course, and allowing time for user feedback and testing, it is intended that these original services will adopt the new multiCRS functionally. General Cultural Point is a Point feature class defining general cultural feature types. Features included in the General Cultural point layer include: Pondage - Swimming Pool - Public or Commercial, Settling Pond, Water Filtration bedBeacon - LightouseCemetery - Cemetery, CrematoriumDumping Ground - Dumping GroundGeneral Industry Point - Silo Commercial, Stock Saleyard, Telephone exchange, Yard-Rural, Mine (underground), Quarry (open cut), Intensive Livestock FacilityTower - Communication, Observation, Intake, Chimney, Wind GeneratorRacetrack - Racecourse, BMX Track, Athletics Track, Training Track, Cycling Track, Trotting track, Dog Track, Motor TrackPipeline - Water, Gas, Waste Dam Wall - Area Perimeter, Breakwater MetadataType Esri Feature Service Update Frequency As required Contact Details Contact us via the Spatial Services Customer Hub Relationship to Themes and Datasets Features of Interest Category of the Foundation Spatial Data Framework (FSDF) Accuracy The dataset maintains a positional relationship to, and alignment with, a range of themes from the NSW FSDF including, transport, imagery, positioning, water and land cover. This dataset was captured by digitising the best available cadastral mapping at a variety of scales and accuracies, ranging from 1:500 to 1:250 000 according to the National Mapping Council of Australia, Standards of Map Accuracy (1975). Therefore, the position of the feature instance will be within 0.5mm at map scale for 90% of the well-defined points. That is, 1:500 = 0.25m, 1:2000 = 1m, 1:4000 = 2m, 1:25000 = 12.5m, 1:50000 = 25m and 1:100000 = 50m. A program of positional upgrade (accuracy improvement) is currently underway. A series of soil and land resource surveys were conducted between 1976 and 1991 in the Alice Springs region over 43 pastoral leases, some of which are now Aboriginal Land Trusts. All mapping was originally published in hard copy format and digitised into a GIS polygon spatial format between 2013 and 2018. In 2020, a project was initiated to create consistent descriptive attributes for the spatial datasets and also update the mapping products. The updata spatial datasets for the pastoral properties will be published in groups and will be listed in the Lineage notes in the metadata record. http://www.ntlis.nt.gov.au/metadata/export_data?type=html&metadata_id=A387392F36456809E040CD9B214458CE. The Technical Reports are not generally available. They are held in the Arid Zone Research Institute Library in Alice Springs. Contact: azri.library@nt.gov.au
