TDEC is continuously striving to create better business practices through GIS and one way that we have found to provide information and answer some question is utilizing an interactive map. An interactive map is a display of geospatial data that allows you to manipulate and query the contents to get the information needed using a set of provided tools. Interactive maps are created using GIS software, and then distributed to users, usually over a computer network. The TDEC Land and Water interactive map will allow you to do simple tasks such as pan, zoom, measure and find a lat/long, while also giving you the capability of running simple queries to locate land and waters by name, entity, and number. With the ability to turn off and on back ground images such as aerial imagery (both black and white as well as color), we hope that you can find much utility in the tools provided.
The imagery posted on this site was acquired following Nashville Tornado in March 2020. The aerial photography missions were conducted by the NOAA Remote Sensing Division. The images were acquired from an altitude of 2500 to 5000 feet, using a Trimble Digital Sensor System (DSS).
This dataset represents aerial photography of the Natchez Trace Parkway that was taken in late September and early October of 2004. Images were acquired during leaf-on conditions as required by the National Park Service (NPS) to accomplish their ground-based vegetation classification. Nearly 400 aerial photography frames were scanned and orthorectified to generate digital orthophoto quarter quads (DOQQs). These were cut to match existing DOQQs creating a total of 235 DOQQs for the entire 715 km long Parkway. For ease of use, the DOQQs were grouped into 11 mosaics, each covering a section of the Parkway. At the request of the NPS, each mosaic was divided into ten tiles to allow for efficient loading on less robust computers.

This dataset contains files created, digitized, or georeferenced by Chris DeRolph for mapping the pre-urban renewal community within the boundaries of the Riverfront-Willow St. and Mountain View urban renewal projects in Knoxville TN. Detailed occupant information for properties within boundaries of these two urban renewal projects was extracted from the 1953 Knoxville City Directory. The year 1953 was chosen as a representative snapshot of the Black community before urban renewal projects were implemented. The first urban renewal project to be approved was the Riverfront-Willow Street project, which was approved in 1954 according to the University of Richmond Renewing Inequality project titled ‘Family Displacements through Urban Renewal, 1950-1966’ (link below in the 'Other shapefiles' section). This data set includes riparian buffer classifications for streams in the Upper Little Tennessee River Watershed that were developed from the corrected streams data set. Riparian buffer classifications were not developed for streams occurring in Nantahala National Forest. The corrected streams data set includes streams mapped by the NC Stream Mapping Program (NCSMP) that have been corrected based on their presence or absence as observed in 2006 aerial imagery. Streams mapped by the NCSMP were downloaded from http://www.ncstreams.org/DataAccess/tabid/257/Default.aspx and corrected using aerial photography for Swain and Macon Counties dated 2006 that were obtained by EEP.
Four classes of riparian buffer widths were created based on the presence or absence of woody vegetation in the riparian area as viewed in the 2006 aerial photos. Right and left banks were analyzed separately and include the following classes:
1 = < 30 feet
2 = 30-100 feet
3= > 100 feet, and
4 = underground
This data set is intended to characterize riparian buffer conditions for streams in the Upper Little Tennessee River Watershed. The riparian buffer classification data set is believed to provide a reasonable basis for generalizing about sub-watershed and watershed conditions. Riparian buffer classification is also one of the key data sets used to determine aquatic function and stream rehabilitation project potential.
This data set provides an initial estimate of likely riparian buffer conditions, but a field examination of the area in question is recommended if accurate information on the current buffer status of specific reaches or properties is desired.

The Memphis, TN EnviroAtlas One Meter-scale Urban Land Cover (MULC) dataset comprises 2,733 km2 around the city of Memphis, surrounding towns, and rural areas. These leaf-on LC data and maps were derived from 1-m pixel, four-band (red, green, blue, and near-infrared) aerial photography acquired from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) on four dates in 2012: June 15, June 18, June 21 and June 23, and one date in 2013: July 12. Three separate LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) data sets collected on February 19, 2009 - August 2, 2010, December 1-2, 2011 and January 23-24, 2012 were integrated for Shelby Co., TN, Crittenden Co., AR, and DeSoto Co, MS. Five MULC classes were mapped directly from the NAIP and LiDAR data: Water, Impervious, Soil, Trees, and Grass/Herbaceous. Agriculture was derived from USDA Common Land Unit (CLU) data. Woody and emergent wetlands were copied from existing National Wetlands Inventory (NWI) data. Analysis of a random sampling of 612 photo-interpreted land cover reference points yielded an overall users accuracy of 86.9%. This dataset was produced by the US EPA to support research and online mapping activities related to EnviroAtlas. EnviroAtlas (https://www.epa.gov/enviroatlas) allows the user to interact with a web-based, easy-to-use, mapping application to view and analyze multiple ecosystem services for the contiguous United States. Melanie Harris (Qsystems) created the DEMs from a Digital Terrain Model (DTM) created from aerial photography taken during leaf-off in April of 1993. The aerial photographs were flown at 7200' Above Ground Level resulting in a nominal scale of 1:14400. The data were compiled at 1:2,400 scale (1=200') yielding the +/- 2.32m error. The original DTM was created as part of the DOE Basemapping and Imagery project for the Oak Ridge Environmental Restoration program.

This dataset consists of a map depicting the landcover of the Natchez Trace Parkway. The mapping output was created using mosaiced color infrared aerial photography of the Parkway. The map shows the distribution of 18 landcover classes based on the National Vegetation Classification Standard. Ground-based vegetation classification was provided by the National Park Service (NPS). The mapping output delineates grasses, road-developed areas, scrub-shrub, shrubland, plantation, water bodies, areas of white oak, oak, pine-oak, pine-cedar, pine-sweetgum, sweetgum (including sweetgum-oak), scattered trees, swamp forest, irregular classes, aquatic vegetation, invasive species, canopy gaps, and clouds.
