    Description

The traffic stations at these locations collect short-term traffic count data to produce Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT). This point layer contains combined traffic counts from mainlanes and frontage roads at one station displayed on the centerline of the roadway for the State of Texas. The data is created and maintained by the Transportation Planning and Programming (TPP) Division’s Traffic section at TxDOT. Traffic counts are collected on an annual basis as a means of measuring the use of public roads in the state. AADTs are calculated using a volume count, axle factor, and seasonal factor. A general overview of the equation is AADT = axles * axle factor * seasonal factor. The data is sourced from the Statewide Traffic Analysis and Reporting System (STARS II).

    Description

The approximately 3,500 Saturation Counts are collected by Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and comprise "Off System" roadways such as arterials and local streets not incuded in the AADT "On System" counts. Saturation counts are done periodically on a regional basis and the time frame will vary by region. The data is usually collected in the spring while school is still in session. The counts are 24 hour weekday (Monday thru Thursday) axles divided by two. The data is then compiled and usually released for use about one year after initial collection, usually in August or September the following year. The data for the 2010 maps was collected in the Spring of 2010 and the maps were released for use in the Fall of 2011.

The Annual Average Daily Traffic Counts (AADT) are collected by Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and comprise the "On System" roadways defined as major highways and regionally significant arterials. The AADT counts result from a mathematical computation where the counts are made over a given period of time and the high and low counts are removed. The counts are done during the non-summer weeks; excluding Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. The AADT counts are what could be expected during a normal workday of a given week.
