The UK innovation survey is part of a wider Community Innovation Survey (CIS) covering European countries. The survey is based on a core questionnaire developed by the European Commission (Eurostat) and member states. This is the tenth iteration of the survey (CIS 10).

The Winter 2021 wave of the PAT was collected between 24 November and 22 December 2021 using the new Address Based Online Survey (ABOS) methodology, covering a sample of 3,706 individuals in the UK.
The new ABOS methodology uses random probability sampling. Respondents are invited to participate through letters sent out to addresses randomly selected from the postcode address file (PAF). They can complete the survey online or on paper.
These results should not be compared with the face-to-face results or online panel results from previous waves due to selection and measurement effects. Details are provided in the https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1040723/BEIS_PAT_Autumn_2021_Technical_Overview.pdf" class="govuk-link">Technical Overview report.
The results have been split into six topic-based reports. The reports include the results from Autumn 2021, new results from Winter 2021 and comparisons between the two where possible. The Artificial Intelligence and Worker’s Rights reports were not updated in this wave as questions on these topics were not asked and the latest results on these topics can be found in the Autumn 2021 wave.
We are looking into publishing a small number of tables showing demographic breakdowns of key questions. Please get in touch if there is a particular question or breakdown you would find useful.
After the publication of the Winter 2021 report, some minor errors were discovered. Following investigation of these, we have decided to change the base for some analyses. This affects the section on likelihood of installing low carbon heating systems and the section on replacing heating systems. In addition, 2 errors in Figure 6.3 on barriers to installing insulation have been corrected. More details on these changes are set out in the accompanying https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1080204/BEIS_PAT_Winter_2021_Revision_Note_May_2022.pdf" class="govuk-link">revision note.
The National Energy Efficiency Data-Framework (NEED) was set up to provide a better understanding of energy use and energy efficiency in domestic and non-domestic buildings in Great Britain. The data framework matches data about a property together - including energy consumption and energy efficiency measures installed - at household level.
We identified 2 processing errors in this edition of the Domestic NEED Annual report and corrected them. The changes are small and do not affect the overall findings of the report, only the domestic energy consumption estimates. The impact of energy efficiency measures analysis remains unchanged. The revisions are summarised here:
This survey (published June 2021) sought user feedback to inform BEIS’ development of Domestic NEED to better meet user requirements. It is now closed: thank you to those who responded.
We are reviewing responses and will provide an update in due course. The responses will also inform BEIS’ decision on whether or not to pause the 2022 NEED publication to enable development work to take place.
Presents information on selected building materials, including monthly data on price indices, bricks, cement and concrete blocks. It also provides quarterly data on sand and gravel, slate, concrete roofing tiles, ready-mixed concrete and imports and exports of construction products.
As announced in the government’s 2021 fuel poverty strategy, Sustainable Warmth, official fuel poverty statistical data from 2019 onwards will be based on the Low Income Low Energy Efficiency (LILEE) indicator.
2014 fuel poverty detailed tables under the Low Income High Costs (LIHC) and Low Income Low Energy Efficiency (LILEE) indicators.
If you have questions about these statistics, please email: fuelpoverty@beis.gov.uk.
Due to a change in assumptions made to the WallType variable, we made revisions to the Detailed Tables, Trends Tables and the Annual Fuel Poverty Publication for 2014. This change is in line with the changes made to the Wallinsy variable contained in the EHS physical dataset, from which this variable is derived.
There was an error in the modelling assumptions used to calculate the number of dwellings with cavity walls for the Wallinsy variable in 2014. Therefore the tables and publication were corrected to align the 2014 data with the previous year’s assumptions.
The Errata published by DCLG provides more information on this revision.
