Parcels of Thurston County, Washington. Thurston County's data set for use in determining issues related to property ownership based on tabular information stored in the ASCEND and SIGMA databases maintained by the Thurston County Assessor's Department.

The fields SEWER_TYPE and WATER_SRC come from a variety of different sources and jurisdictions which the Assessor’s Office has no control of or the ability to audit. The Assessor’s Office appraisers are not experts in determining the exact type of water/sewer system available to a site, and do not make any official determination. These legacy fields are not updated. Local utility providers should be contacted for better information for specific parcels.

    Description

The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. Face refers to the areal (polygon) topological primitives that make up MTDB. A face is bounded by one or more edges; its boundary includes only the edges that separate it from other faces, not any interior edges contained within the area of the face. The Topological Faces Shapefile contains the attributes of each topological primitive face. Each face has a unique topological face identifier (TFID) value. Each face in the shapefile includes the key geographic area codes for all geographic areas for which the Census Bureau tabulates data for both the 2020 Census and the annual estimates and surveys. The geometries of each of these geographic areas can then be built by dissolving the face geometries on the appropriate key geographic area codes in the Topological Faces Shapefile.

Thurston County, WA, US Post Office Box assigned zip codes. The purpose of this data is as a general reference only and actual mailing zip codes should be obtained from the US Postal Service. This layer was originally created using US Post Office Data. These points are associated with the US Post Office Box locations that house a unique Zip Code. This layer should be used in conjunction with the Zip Codes layer which is used to show zip code area boundaries associated with addressing and Thurston County Assessor’s Parcels. For example in smaller jurisdictions, like Bucoda, that rely on a post office box rather than rural delivery, the zip code point will reflect the unique zip code while the surrounding area will reflect the greater rural zip code boundaries and not the localized PO Box zip code.

These encompass the approximately 100,000 acres of land in both Thurston and Grays Harbor counties. Other properties, owned by DNR, in Thurston County are not included in this layer. For Parks data (City, County, State, and Federal) and information see the Thurston County Parks layer.
National Forest Lands – National Forest lands, managed by the US Forest Service. Reservations – All lands associated with the Tribal Reservations of the Nisqually or Chehalis Tribes. This layer is updated using information from the US Federal Government as the authoritative source. This layer does not include lands in trust or lands falling outside the US recognized boundary.

Group B Public Water System is classified as a community system with 3 to 14 connections and less than 25 people per day or serves 25 or more people per day during fewer than 60 days per year. Group B Exempt Public Water Systems are classified as community systems that were formerly Group B, by State DOH, but were downgraded to Exempt Systems due to their size/number of connections. These systems are no longer tracked by the State but are still tracked, under their previous ids/tags, by Thurston County. This change occurred in 2016/2017.

Dataset is a polygonal representation of structures within Thurston County. This data was derived from the 2000 aerial photography. Some of the buildings and structures may be distorted due to canopy interference. The data was derived from the AutoCAD entity layers. Each building type had an individual entity layer in AutoCAD, they were combined to create one GIS layer. This data layer was created by Smith and Associates from the 2000 imagery and delivered to GeoData around 2003. This data has not been updated since 2000 so changes to existing structures or additions since then will not be reflected in the data.

Thurston County Hydro/Stream data originated as coverage file representation of the Thurston County hydro network. It included all waterbodies: rivers, lakes, ponds, inlets and streams. The features were digitized by the Thurston GeoData Center from the Thurston Comap, Assessor's Data dated 1990, and Tiger Files using rubber sheeting and aerial digitizing. Attribute information, including DNR Classifications and Naming, originated from Washington State DNR and Department of Ecology. In 2002-2003 the data was updated along Marine Shorelines using updated Aerial Photography. In 2011 the hydro coverage file were converted into feature class files during which process stream and river data was separated from other waterbodies; large river areas, lakes, ponds, and marine areas. The datasets were renamed to Streams and Waterbodies respectively. In 2014 some minor adjustments were made to both layers in the Lake Lawrence area as the result of LiDAR derived hydro enforced DEM data. Other changes that have been made to the data include Stream Name/Attribute information. These changes are made when authoritative information is received from USGS GNIS in regards the naming or renaming of streams. Future plans are in place for revisions to the data to more accurately reflect waterbody locations.Last Updated - February 28, 2017
