    Description

With a market capitalization of 3.12 trillion U.S. dollars as of May 2024, Microsoft was the world’s largest company that year. Rounding out the top five were some of the world’s most recognizable brands: Apple, NVIDIA, Google’s parent company Alphabet, and Amazon. Saudi Aramco led the ranking of the world's most profitable companies in 2023, with a pre-tax income of nearly 250 billion U.S. dollars. How are market value and market capitalization determined? Market value and market capitalization are two terms frequently used – and confused - when discussing the profitability and viability of companies. Strictly speaking, market capitalization (or market cap) is the worth of a company based on the total value of all their shares; an important metric when determining the comparative value of companies for trading opportunities. Accordingly, many stock exchanges such as the New York or London Stock Exchange release market capitalization data on their listed companies. On the other hand, market value technically refers to what a company is worth in a much broader context. It is determined by multiple factors, including profitability, corporate debt, and the market environment as a whole. In this sense it aims to estimate the overall value of a company, with share price only being one element. Market value is therefore useful for determining whether a company’s shares are over- or undervalued, and in arriving at a price if the company is to be sold. Such valuations are generally made on a case-by-case basis though, and not regularly reported. For this reason, market capitalization is often reported as market value. What are the top companies in the world? The answer to this question depends on the metric used. Although the largest company by market capitalization, Microsoft's global revenue did not manage to crack the top 20 companies. Rather, American multinational retailer Walmart was ranked as the largest company in the world by revenue. Walmart also had the highest number of employees in the world.

The technology giant had an estimated brand value of approximately 574.5 billion U.S. dollars, followed by Microsoft, which was worth 461.1 billion dollars. The global dominance of technology companies Big tech companies take the lead of the world’s most valuable brands. Although brand valuation differs among sources due to different methodologies, Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Amazon consistently rank at the top in several rankings. Notably, business technology, media & entertainment, and consumer technology account for the leading industries driving the collective value of the 100 most valuable brands worldwide. The importance of brand value Brand value, not to be confused with brand equity, is a term used in the marketing industry to describe the value of a brand. The term is based on the implication that products with a well-known brand name can generate more money than those with a less well-known name. Strong brands enhance business performance primarily through their influence on three key stakeholder groups: customers, employees, and investors. They influence customer choice and create loyalty, attract, retain, and motivate talent, and lower the cost of financing for companies.

Astrazeneca was the leading pharmaceutical company in the United Kingdom as of March 7, 2024, with a market capitalization amounting to approximately ***** billion U.S. dollars. GlaxoSmithKline followed as the second largest pharma company in the country, with market capitalization of nearly **** billion U.S. dollars. Examining the development of the FTSE 100 Index, which was launched in January 1984 with a base level of 1,000, increased by more than sevenfold to date. What is the FTSE 100 index? The Financial Times Stock Exchange 100 Index, commonly known as the "Footsie", is the most widely recognized stock market index in the United Kingdom. It is made up of the 100 largest blue-chip companies on the London Stock Exchange. Companies from various sectors, such as healthcare, consumer goods, and energy, are included in the index, as are leading banks of the United Kingdom, such as HSBC, Lloyds Banking Group, and Barclays. Moreover, it can be seen as a reflection of the investment climate in the United Kingdom. What is not included in the FTSE 100 Index? Most notably, the FTSE 100 Index, like most indices, is not adjusted for inflation. While inflation in the United Kingdom has gone down dramatically since 2023, it might be useful to adjust the historic figures on the index when comparing historic data to current levels. This is especially important when the index seems to have increased by a few percentage points because inflation may have increased at a faster rate than stock prices.

In 2024, tech companies ranked as the most valuable brands in the world, covering the five top spots in the source’s ranking. Apple led the list with a brand value of nearly 489 billion U.S. dollars, followed by Microsoft, Amazon, and Google – each with brand values of over 290 billion dollars. Samsung closed the top five, at over 100 billion dollars in brand value. Big techs are also huge in terms of market value The source determined brand value by combining financial information, the role the brand plays in determining consumer choice (independent of other factors such as price and convenience), and a qualitative assessment of the brand’s overall strength. Considering only financial data, Apple, Amazon, Alphabet (Google’s parent company) and Microsoft would be still on the top, as they have some of the highest global market capitalizations. However, when considering only qualitative factors regarding brand strength, the list would look very different, with Chinese app WeChat being the strongest brand worldwide in 2024. Brand value vs. profitability Brand value does not always translate into profitability. While Apple also happens to be the second most profitable company in the world, other companies with strong brands such as Google and Amazon rank lower in terms of net income. This phenomenon does not only apply to tech companies – Coca-Cola did not feature on the list of the most profitable companies worldwide. This is likely due to their franchised distribution structure, whereby manufacturing operations are handled by separate companies, each of which operates independently with an exclusive license to manufacture Coca-Cola beverages in their territory.

    Description

    Context

NIFTY 500 is India’s first broad-based stock market index of the Indian stock market. It contains the top 500 listed companies on the NSE. The NIFTY 500 index represents about 96.1% of free-float market capitalization and 96.5% of the total turnover on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

NIFTY 500 companies are disaggregated into 72 industry indices. Industry weights in the index reflect industry weights in the market. For example, if the banking sector has a 5% weight in the universe of stocks traded on the NSE, banking stocks in the index would also have an approximate representation of 5% in the index. NIFTY 500 can be used for a variety of purposes such as benchmarking fund portfolios, launching index funds, ETFs, and other structured products.

    • Other Notable Indices -
      • NIFTY 50: Top 50 listed companies on the NSE. A diversified 50-stock index accounting for 13 sectors of the Indian economy.
      • NIFTY Next 50: Also called NIFTY Juniors. Represents 50 companies from NIFTY 100 after excluding the NIFTY 50 companies.
      • NIFTY 100: Diversified 100 stock index representing major sectors of the economy. NIFTY 100 represents the top 100 companies based on full market capitalization from NIFTY 500.
      • NIFTY 200: Designed to reflect the behavior and performance of large and mid-market capitalization companies.

    Content

The dataset comprises various parameters and features for each of the NIFTY 500 Stocks, including Company Name, Symbol, Industry, Series, Open, High, Low, Previous Close, Last Traded Price, Change, Percentage Change, Share Volume, Value in Indian Rupee, 52 Week High, 52 Week Low, 365 Day Percentage Change, and 30 Day Percentage Change.

    Dataset Glossary (Column-Wise)

Company Name: Name of the Company.

Symbol: A stock symbol is a unique series of letters assigned to a security for trading purposes.

Industry: Name of the industry to which the stock belongs.

Series: EQ stands for Equity. In this series intraday trading is possible in addition to delivery and BE stands for Book Entry. Shares falling in the Trade-to-Trade or T-segment are traded in this series and no intraday is allowed. This means trades can only be settled by accepting or giving the delivery of shares.

Open: It is the price at which the financial security opens in the market when trading begins. It may or may not be different from the previous day's closing price. The security may open at a higher price than the closing price due to excess demand for the security.

High: It is the highest price at which a stock is traded during the course of the trading day and is typically higher than the closing or equal to the opening price.

Low: Today's low is a security's intraday low trading price. Today's low is the lowest price at which a stock trades over the course of a trading day.

Previous Close: The previous close almost always refers to the prior day's final price of a security when the market officially closes for the day. It can apply to a stock, bond, commodity, futures or option co-contract, market index, or any other security.

Last Traded Price: The last traded price (LTP) usually differs from the closing price of the day. This is because the closing price of the day on NSE is the weighted average price of the last 30 mins of trading. The last traded price of the day is the actual last traded price.

Change: For a stock or bond quote, change is the difference between the current price and the last trade of the previous day. For interest rates, change is benchmarked against a major market rate (e.g., LIBOR) and may only be updated as infrequently as once a quarter.

Percentage Change: Take the selling price and subtract the initial purchase price. The result is the gain or loss. Take the gain or loss from the investment and divide it by the original amount or purchase price of the investment. Finally, multiply the result by 100 to arrive at the percentage change in the investment.

Share Volume: Volume is an indicator that means the total number of shares that have been bought or sold in a specific period of time or during the trading day. It will also involve the buying and selling of every share during a specific time period.

Value (Indian Rupee): Market value—also known as market cap—is calculated by multiplying a company's outstanding shares by its current market price.

52-Week High: A 52-week high is the highest share price that a stock has traded at during a passing year. Many market aficionados view the 52-week high as an important factor in determining a stock's current value and predicting future price movement. 52-week High prices are adjusted for Bonus, Split & Rights Corporate actions.

    52-Week Low: A 52-week low is the lowest ...
