Tokyo was the city with the most Michelin-starred restaurants in the world as of June 2025, with 194 of the Japanese capital's eateries boasting at least one of the coveted stars. Japanese restaurants dominated the top five, with Kyoto coming in third place and Osaka in fourth place.

Late French chef and restaurateur Joël Robuchon was the chef with the most Michelin-starred restaurants worldwide as of April 2023. His restaurants were awarded a total of 31 stars across his career. Robuchon was followed by fellow Frenchman Alain Ducasse, with 21 stars, while British chef-cum-TV-star Gordon Ramsay came in third with 17 stars. Out of the 10 most starred chefs in the world, five hailed from France.
