    Description

The ArcGIS Online USGS Topographic Maps image service contains over 181,000 historical topographic quadrangle maps (quads) dating from 1879 to 2006. These maps are part of the USGS Historical Topographic Map Collection (HTMC) which includes all the historical quads that had been printed since the USGS topographic mapping program was initiated in 1879. Previously available only as printed lithographic copies, the historical maps were scanned “as is” to create high-resolution images that capture the content and condition of each map sheet. All maps were georeferenced, and map metadata was captured as part of the process.

For the Esri collection, the scanned maps were published as this ArcGIS Online image service which can be viewed on the web and allows users to download individual scanned images. Esri’s collection contains historical quads (excluding orthophotos) dating from 1879 to 2006 with scales ranging from 1:10,000 to 1:250,000. The scanned maps can be used in ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Enterprise. They can also be downloaded as georeferenced TIFs for use in these and other applications.

We make it easy for you to explore and download these maps, or quickly create an ArcGIS Online map, using our Historical Topo Map Explorer app. The app provides a visual interface to search and explore the historical maps by geographic extent, publication year, and map scale. And you can overlay the historical maps on a satellite image or 3D hillshade and add labels for current geographic features.

    Description

Digital topographic maps are raster data from the existing topographic national map series. The raster data is divided into different levels according to cartographic content elements and can be submitted as individual levels or as a colored combination. The DTK50 are digital topographic maps, which are derived from a corresponding ATKIS-DLM in new map graphics and level structure. It is available in 24 individual levels (single layers) in black and white or in color combination in different resolutions. The raster data can be used as individual sheets in the sheet section of the topographic maps and as sheet section-free preparations (overall file and/or tiles) in various geodetic reference systems and map projections covering the entire area or excerpts for the federal state of Thuringia.

    Description

This group of maps, which includes the CanMatrix and CanTopo collections, is now a legacy product that is no longer maintained. It may not meet current government standards. Natural Resources Canada's (NRCan) topographic raster maps provide a representation of the topographic phenomena of the Canadian landmass. Several editions of paper maps have been produced over time in order to offer improved products compared to their predecessors in terms of quality and the most up to date information possible. The georeferenced maps can be used in a Geographic Information System (GIS). In all cases, they accurately represent the topographical data available for the date indicated (validity date). The combination of CanMatrix and CanTopo data provides complete national coverage. • CanMatrix - Print Ready: Raster maps produced by scanning topographic maps at scales from 1:25 000 to 1:1 000 000. This product is not georeferenced. Validity dates: 1944 to 2005 (1980 on average). Available formats: PDF and TIFF • CanMatrix - Georeferenced: Raster maps produced by scanning topographic maps at scales of 1:50 000 and 1:250 000. These maps are georeferenced according to the 1983 North American Reference System (NAD 83). Validity dates: 1944 to 2005 (1980 on average). Available format: GeoTIFF • CanTopo: Digital raster maps produced mainly from the GeoBase initiative, NRCan digital topographic data, and other sources. Approximately 2,234 datasets (maps) at scale of 1:50 000, primarily covering northern Canada, are available. CanTopo datasets in GeoPDF and GeoTIFF format are georeferenced according to the 1983 North American Reference System (NAD 83). Validity dates: 1946 to 2012 (2007 on average). Available formats: PDF, GeoPDF, TIFF and GeoTIFF

    Description

This data set contains the sea floor topographic contours, sun-illuminated topographic imagery, and backscatter intensity generated from a multibeam sonar survey of the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary region off Boston, Massachusetts, an area of approximately 1100 square nautical miles. The Stellwagen Bank NMS Mapping Project is designed to provide detailed maps of the Stellwagen Bank region's environments and habitats and the first complete multibeam topographic and sea floor characterization maps of a significant region of the shallow EEZ. Data were collected on four cruises over a two year period from the fall of 1994 to the fall of 1996. The surveys were conducted aboard the Candian Hydrographic Service vessel Frederick G. Creed, a SWATH (Small Waterplane Twin Hull) ship that surveys at speeds of 16 knots. The multibeam data were collected utilizing a Simrad Subsea EM 1000 Multibeam Echo Sounder (95 kHz) that is permanently installed in the hull of the Creed.

**Note that topographic maps at a scale of 1/100,000 are no longer updated. For the latest update date, see the metadata. The reference cartographic data is now constituted according to a continuous information layer approach: ** * AQRéseau+ * Geobase of the Quebec Hydrographic Network (GRHQ) * Administrative divisions at the scale of 1/20,000 (SDA)] (https://www.donneesquebec.ca/recherche/fr/dataset/decoupages-administratifs) * Geobase of the hydrographic terrain network of Quebec (GRHQ) * Administrative divisions at the scale of 1/20,000 (SDA) _ Topographic maps at a scale of 1/100,000 offer an overview of the occupation of Quebec territory at a scale of 1/100,000. A series in the south (266 sheets) and a series in the north (151 sheets) of the 53rd parallel cover the majority of Quebec. The data is less than 10 meters accurate and each file covers an area of approximately 4,000 km2, equivalent to 16 sheets at a scale of 1/20,000. Main components: * Hydrography (lakes of more than three hectares, permanent watercourses, swamps, etc.). * Vegetation (wooded areas and peatlands of more than 13 hectares). * Human constructions: * transport infrastructures (motorable roads, bridges, airports, etc.); * buildings larger than 12,500 m2; * buildings larger than 12,500 m2; * equipment and designated areas. * The relief (level curves at an equidistance). of 20 meters and elevation points). ##### Special features of the series south of the 53rd parallel * The data are obtained by a generalization of map data on a scale of 1/20,000. Between the 51st and the 53rd parallel, they are extracted from SPOT satellite imagery at 10 meters of resolution. * The data formats available for this series are: * Cover ArcInfo (vector); * GeoTIFF, CCL projection (matrix); * GeoTIFF, MTM projection (matrix); * GeoTIFF, MTM projection (matrix); * PDF (matrix); * PDF (matrix). ##### Special features of the series north of the 53rd parallel * The data is obtained by a generalization of map data from Natural Resources Canada (CanVec product) at a scale of 1:50,000. Multi-source data, namely data from Adresses Québec, data on airports and hydrobases from the Ministère des Transports du Québec, and data on reservoirs from Hydro-Québec, increase the quality of this cartographic product on a scale of 1/100,000. * The data format available for this series is: * FGDB (vector).**This third party metadata element was translated using an automated translation tool (Amazon Translate).**

    Description

This map is part of the series that covers the whole of Australia at a scale of 1:250 000 (1cm on a map represents 2.5 km on the ground) and comprises 513 maps. This is the largest scale at which published topographic maps cover the entire continent. Each standard map covers an area of 1.5 degrees longitude by 1 degree latitude or about 150 kilometres from east to west and 110 kilometres from north to south. There are about 50 special maps in the series and these maps cover a non-standard area. Typically, where a map produced on standard sheet lines is largely ocean it is combined with its landward neighbour. These maps contain natural and constructed features including road and rail infrastructure, vegetation, hydrography, contours (interval 50m), localities and some administrative boundaries. The topographic map and data index shows coverage of the sheets. Product Specifications Coverage: The series covers the whole of Australia with 513 maps. Currency: Ranges from 1995 to 2009. 95% of maps have a reliability date of 1994 or later. Coordinates: Geographical and either AMG or MGA (post-1993) Datum: AGD66, GDA94, AHD. Projection: Universal Traverse Mercator (UTM) Medium: Paper, flat and folded copies.

Description

Important Note: This item is in mature support as of June 2021 and is no longer updated.

This map presents land cover and detailed topographic maps for the United States. It uses the USA Topographic Map service. The map includes the National Park Service (NPS) Natural Earth physical map at 1.24km per pixel for the world at small scales, i-cubed eTOPO 1:250,000-scale maps for the contiguous United States at medium scales, and National Geographic TOPO! 1:100,000 and 1:24,000-scale maps (1:250,000 and 1:63,000 in Alaska) for the United States at large scales. The TOPO! maps are seamless, scanned images of United States Geological Survey (USGS) paper topographic maps.

The maps provide a very useful basemap for a variety of applications, particularly in rural areas where the topographic maps provide unique detail and features from other basemaps.

To add this map service into a desktop application directly, go to the entry for the USA Topo Maps map service.
