    Description

Bumble Inc. is a social media company and the parent company of online dating services and social networks Bumble and Badoo. In 2024, the number of paying users on the Bumble app increased to over 2.8 million. Overall, users of the Badoo app, and other apps belonging to the company, also increased. Between 2018 and 2023, users of Bumble's premium services or made in-app purchases have increased gradually but constantly. Where are paying users of Bumble and Badoo based? The revenue growth of Bumble Inc. is fueled by its paying users, and the company has been active in trying to attract new customers for both its app and web services by releasing premium features and beta-testing others in selected key country markets. Between 2018 and 2023, Bumble app has experienced a constant increase in its monthly in-app purchases (IAP), with users based in North and Latin America leading its revenue growth. In comparison, Badoo revenues have experienced a more discontinuous global growth, with Europe, the Middle East, and Africa registering the largest share of in-app purchases from subscriptions and other in-app services. Bumble app gendered positioning Bumble, which allows female users to actively make the first move when contacting a possible match, strongly positions itself as a women-first dating app. However, as of March 2021, the majority of monthly active users on Bumble app in the United States were male, with roughly a third of female users. In comparison, Tinder female monthly active users in the U.S. were 24 percent in the same period. The proportions might reflect the worldwide gender imbalance in audiences of online dating services or apps, which as of the fourth quarter of 2020 counted 43 percent male users and 33 percent female users.

    Description

The dating service industry in Canada has recently experienced growth as mobile technology has caused the expansion of digital services. The shift from traditional face-to-face interactions to online platforms has driven demand, with users relying on mobile apps for quick and easy connections. The leading companies in the sector have tapped into this trend by developing user-friendly mobile ecosystems that enhance spontaneous interactions through smartphones. As people prioritize convenience and accessibility, the industry's growth continues, catering to various user needs ranging from quick connections to more meaningful, long-term relationships. Industry revenue has risen at a CAGR of 0.5% to $178.6 million over the five years to 2024, including an estimated 1.3% jump in 2024 alone. Many platforms have reported reduced revenue from subscription models as more users lean toward complementary offerings with comprehensive features. Rising costs in several areas further pressure profitability, with increasing wages for skilled workers like programmers and marketers contributing to growing expenses. Legal and insurance costs also strain financial resources due to the industry's evolving risk profile. Anticipated trends over the next five years suggest that Canada's digital dating landscape will experience robust growth. As more individuals seek virtual connections as preludes to real-life meetings, firms will likely integrate new technologies to elevate user experiences and maintain a competitive edge. Enhanced mobile connectivity will drive sustained app usage, while location-based features could promote face-to-face interactions in urban centers. Companies may explore niche segments and tailor services to specific audience demographics, capitalizing on personalized matchmaking experiences. Regulatory pressures from consumer complaints will likely prompt stricter safety measures, encouraging creativity in creating trusted environments and potentially leading to higher subscription fees. Overall, industry revenue is forecast to grow at a CAGR of 1.7% to $194.6 million by 2029.

Declines in bumblebee species ranges and abundances are documented across multiple continents and have prompted the need for research to aid species recovery and conservation. The rusty patched bumblebee (Bombus affinis) is the first federally-listed bumblebee species in North America. We conducted a range-wide population genetics study of B. affinis from across all extant conservation units to inform conservation efforts. To understand the species’ vulnerability and help establish recovery targets, we examined population structure, patterns of genetic diversity, and population differentiation. Additionally, we conducted site-level analysis of colony abundance to inform prioritizing areas for conservation, translocation, and other recovery actions. We find substantial evidence of population structuring along an east-to-west gradient. Putative populations show evidence of isolation by distance, high inbreeding coefficients, and a range wide male diploidy rate of ~15%. Our results suggest..., Please see the published manuscript for full data collection details. , , # README

    Description
    1. Fire-induced changes in the abundance and distribution of organisms, especially plants, can alter resource landscapes for mobile consumers driving bottom-up effects on their population sizes, morphologies, and reproductive potential. We expect these impacts to be most striking for obligate visitors of plants, like bees and other pollinators, but these impacts can be difficult to interpret due to the limited information provided by forager counts in the absence of survival or fitness proxies.

    2. Increased bumble bee worker abundance is often coincident with the pulses of flowers that follow recent fire. However, it is unknown if observed postfire activity is due to underlying population growth or a stable pool of colonies recruiting more foragers to abundant resource patches. This distinction is necessary for determining the net impact of disturbance on bumble bees: are there population-wide responses or do just a few colonies reap the rewards?

    3. We estimated colony abundance before and after fire in burned and unburned areas using a genetic mark-recapture framework. We paired colony abundance estimates with measures of body size, counts of queens, and estimates of foraging and dispersal to assess changes in worker size, reproductive output, and landscape-scale movements.

    4. Higher floral abundance following fire not only increased forager abundance, but also the number of colonies from which those foragers came. Importantly, despite a larger population size we also observed increased mean worker size. Two years following fire, queen abundance was higher in both burned and unburned sites, potentially due to the dispersal of queens from burned into unburned areas. The effects of fire were transient; within two growing seasons, worker abundance was substantially reduced across the entire sampling area and body sizes were similar between burned and unburned sites.

    5. Our results reveal how disturbance can temporarily release populations from resource limitation, boosting the genetic diversity, body size, and reproductive output of populations. Given that the effects of fire on bumble bees acted indirectly through pulsed resource availability, it is likely our results are generalizable to other situations, such as habitat restorations, where resource density is enhanced within the landscape.

Description

Bumble Inc. is a social media company and the parent company of online dating services and social networks Bumble and Badoo.
