This is about 20 percent of the entire population.

Istanbul is located at the entrance to the Black Sea, between Europe and Asia. It is attractive to both the people of Turkey as a place to live and work and foreign tourists who take advantage of its cultural and historic center. Due to its attractiveness and its location at the crossroads of the east and the west, the city has been investing in transportation infrastructure to support its strategic location and increasing growth.

Ankara, the capital of Turkey, is the second largest city and home to about 4.5 million people. Izmir is the third largest, with almost 3 million inhabitants. A vast amount of the country’s population is located in these three metropolises.

    Description

    Context

This is a dataset consisting of landmark locations of Turkey, from 3 largest cities; Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir.

This dataset is created for the purpose of a project for machine learning class. We wanted to build a large dataset which will be used for long time, that is why pictures are not just small pictures. The program we used for classifying images can be found on my github.

    Content

    This data is split in test and train data. %80 of images is split for training, and the rest is for testing. The file is structured like;

    -Location1 |img1.jpg |asdfghg.jpg |xxdgs.jpg -Location2 |more.jpg |pictures.jpg |with_random_names.jpg . . .

The data was collected from flickr, google images, and google places. Google places was a little bit stingy about sharing its data, so we had to find a way around. Most of the scripts which have been used for scrapping the data can be found at my github profile.

Another think to remember is the noise leftover even after so many cleaning process. Sorry for that.

    Acknowledgements

I would like to thanks Serhat Saglik, who was my teammate during this project for his efforts.

    Description

From 2019 to 2023, Istanbul was the leading destination in Turkey based on the volume of international tourist arrivals each year. Overall, inbound travelers in that city totaled over 17 million in 2023, more than tripling compared to 2020, when the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic started, reaching above pre-pandemic figures. Antalya was the second leading tourist destination in 2023, with around 14.8 million inbound arrivals.

Istanbul does not lose its popularity

Istanbul has been an attractive destination with plenty of sights including mosques, churches, museums, palaces, and the Bosphorus Strait, which connects two large continents, Europe, and Asia. This city, which has hosted different civilizations and cultures for centuries, has welcomed millions of foreign and local visitors for years. In 2022, the largest city of Turkey attracted 17.4 million foreign tourists, which was above the pre-coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic level. In line with the high inflation in the country, accommodation prices in Istanbul have generally been increasing. As of October 2023, the average cost for an overnight stay in the city was 117 euros.

    Domestic tourism is falling back

Although international tourism in Turkey has been recovering from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and its limitations, domestic tourism has fallen behind. Factors such as high inflation, price increases, and the soaring cost of living in the country have also affected local tourism. In 2023, the number of domestic trips was about 22 percent less compared to the peak figures in 2018. In relation to this, the number of overnight stays of domestic travelers has been generally following a negative trend in the last few years. Local tourists recorded roughly 473 million nights at accommodations in 2023, still below the pre-pandemic levels.

    Description

The Turkish commercial real estate market, valued at approximately $XX million in 2025, exhibits robust growth potential, projected to expand at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 9.74% from 2025 to 2033. This expansion is fueled by several key drivers. Strong tourism in cities like Antalya, coupled with increasing domestic and foreign investment, particularly in Istanbul and Bursa, significantly boosts demand for office, retail, and hospitality spaces. The burgeoning logistics sector, driven by Turkey's strategic location and growing e-commerce market, further fuels the demand for industrial and logistics facilities. Furthermore, a growing population and urbanization trends contribute to the increasing demand for multi-family residential properties. While challenges exist, such as fluctuating economic conditions and potential regulatory changes, the overall market outlook remains positive, supported by long-term infrastructure development plans and ongoing efforts to improve the business environment. The market is segmented by property type (offices, retail, industrial, logistics, multi-family, hospitality) and key cities (Istanbul, Bursa, Antalya), allowing investors to target specific niches within the broader market. Major players like Agaoglu Group, Artas Group, Ege Yapi, Calik Holding, Ronesans Holding, and others are actively shaping the market landscape, contributing to its overall growth and development. The forecast period (2025-2033) is expected to witness significant growth across all segments, although the pace might vary. The office segment in Istanbul and Bursa will likely experience substantial growth due to increasing corporate demand and foreign investments. The retail sector, especially in high-traffic areas of major cities, is poised for continued expansion as consumer spending increases. The logistics segment is expected to witness high growth rates fueled by the rising e-commerce sector and improved infrastructure. The hospitality sector will likely benefit from the sustained growth in tourism. While the multi-family residential segment shows solid growth, it might be influenced by factors such as interest rates and government regulations. Monitoring macroeconomic indicators and potential regulatory shifts will be crucial for accurate market prediction in the upcoming years. Overall, the Turkish commercial real estate market presents a blend of opportunities and challenges, requiring strategic planning and risk management to capitalize on its growth potential. Recent developments include: October 2021: Stolthaven Terminals and Rönesans Holding have signed a partnership agreement to jointly develop a new greenfield terminal in Ceyhan, Adana, Turkey, providing storage and handling services to the Ceyhan Petrochemical Industrial Zone, which is being developed by Rönesans Holding., July 2021: Turkey Government has signed a contract with with Calık Holding for the construction of 2 new cutting-edge gas turbines for the Oil Refinery Complex in Turkmenbashi and reconstruction of the power plant. According to the contract, the project will be delivered completely ready for operation in 18 months.. Notable trends are: Improvement in Hospitality Sector.

    Context

This dataset is a byproduct of my phd thesis. It combines the Archaeological Settlements of Turkey (TAY) Project data with geo spatial data obtained from openstreetmaps.

    Content

For each archaeological settlement, the data contains:

    • active dates:
    • geo spatial data which points to the town containing the settlement.
    • information with respect to site type and its research status/methodology. These are all contained in the file taydata.json. For the raw data see taydata.html

The associated notebook to this dataset gives how each file is produced.

We give several important statistics with respect to regions, and cities of Turkey for the Iron Age.

If you want to visualize the data on a map. You can use the 1200_330_bce_sites_of_turkey.umap file. Just download the file and visualize it on umap or on framacarte

    Acknowledgements

Without the immense effort of TAY Project, this data set would not be possible.

    Description

The Turkish food service market, encompassing diverse segments like cafes, restaurants, and quick-service outlets, presents a dynamic landscape with significant growth potential. While precise market size figures for 2019-2024 aren't provided, leveraging publicly available data on similar markets and considering Turkey's robust tourism and growing population, a reasonable estimate for the 2025 market size could be in the range of $50-60 billion USD (assuming a value unit of millions and the missing market size XX is estimated. This projection assumes a conservative growth considering macroeconomic factors and potential market fluctuations). Key drivers include rising disposable incomes, changing consumer lifestyles favoring convenience and diverse culinary experiences, and the expanding tourism sector. Growth is further fueled by the proliferation of online food delivery platforms and the rise of cloud kitchens, catering to the increasing demand for home delivery services. However, economic volatility and inflation pose potential restraints, impacting consumer spending and operational costs for food service businesses. The market segmentation reveals a strong presence of both chained and independent outlets across various locations, indicating both large-scale operations and entrepreneurial ventures contributing to the market. Specific cuisine types – from traditional Turkish dishes to international options – cater to diverse palates. The projected CAGR suggests a consistently expanding market, although external factors could influence the rate of growth. The competitive landscape involves a mix of established players and emerging brands. Major players like Migros Ticaret AŞ, TAB Gida, and Yum! Brands Inc. represent established forces, while smaller, independent operators contribute significantly to market diversity. Future market dynamics depend on factors such as government regulations, evolving consumer preferences (e.g., increasing demand for healthier options), technological advancements in food preparation and delivery, and the overall economic climate of Turkey. Further analysis focusing on specific segments (e.g., the impact of tourism on the food service industry in major Turkish cities, or the growth potential of particular cuisine types) would provide more granular insights. Data on specific CAGR values would enable more precise forecasting. Considering these factors, a thorough understanding of the Turkish food service industry’s dynamics provides invaluable knowledge for strategic planning and investment decisions. Recent developments include: August 2022: Subway announced that it had signed a deal to increase its footprint of approximately 80 restaurants in Turkey by five times, adding 400 new restaurants over the next seven years. The new restaurants will feature the brand’s modernized “Fresh Forward” design and offer enhanced delivery and online ordering options.May 2022: Turkish firm AG Anadolu Group Holding agreed to divest 100% of the shares of its subsidiary, Anadolu Restaurant, which operates McDonald's restaurants in Turkey, to Boheme Investment.May 2022: G Anadolu Group Holding signed a binding share transfer agreement with Qatari Boheme Investment GmbH to sell shares representing 100% of the capital of its subsidiary, Anadolu Restaurant, which operates McDonald's franchises in Turkey.. Notable trends are: Increasing affinity toward meat-based fast food and the expansion of franchise outlets are propelling the growth of QSRs..

    Description

The Turkish residential real estate market, valued at $99.05 million in 2025, is projected to experience robust growth, driven by a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 11.16% from 2025 to 2033. This expansion is fueled by several key factors. Turkey's strategic geographic location, bridging Europe and Asia, attracts significant foreign investment, particularly in coastal areas like Antalya, Bodrum, and Fethiye, known for their tourism and lifestyle appeal. Furthermore, a growing domestic population, increasing urbanization, and government initiatives promoting affordable housing contribute to market demand. The market is segmented into apartments and condominiums, which dominate the market share, and villas and landed houses, catering to a higher-end buyer segment. Major players like Agaoglu Group, Artas Group, and others shape the competitive landscape. While robust growth is anticipated, challenges such as economic volatility and fluctuating currency exchange rates could potentially restrain market expansion. The market's growth trajectory will be significantly influenced by infrastructure development, regulatory changes, and the overall health of the Turkish economy. The forecast period, 2025-2033, is expected to witness sustained growth, although the rate might fluctuate year-to-year depending on macroeconomic conditions. Istanbul, Bursa, and Antalya remain key cities driving market expansion due to their established infrastructure, employment opportunities, and diverse housing options. While the provided data focuses primarily on the Turkish domestic market, international investors, particularly from Europe and the Middle East, play a significant role, influencing demand and price dynamics. Analyzing regional trends reveals that the European and Middle Eastern & African markets will likely exhibit the highest growth in investment and demand, mirroring the trends in foreign investment into Turkish real estate. The market's performance will closely track broader economic indicators in Turkey and the global landscape. Ongoing construction activity, especially in new developments and infrastructure projects, will directly impact market supply and growth. Recent developments include: In February 2022, Emlak Konut announced the construction of 900 residential housing units. The total value of the construction is TRY 3.1 billion (USD 211 million). The project is located in the Sariyer district, and it is estimated to be completed by the end of 2024., In January 2021, Ofton Construction announced the construction of three residential projects, which are in the planning and designing phase, named Bomonti, Levente, and Nisantasi. These three projects are located in different locations- Sisli, Levent, and Nisantasi, respectively. All these projects are estimated to be completed in 2025.. Notable trends are: Increasing FDI Flow in the Residential Real Estate Market in Turkey.
