The dataset tabulates the population of Turkey by gender across 18 age groups. It lists the male and female population in each age group along with the gender ratio for Turkey. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population distribution of Turkey by gender and age. For example, using this dataset, we can identify the largest age group for both Men and Women in Turkey. Additionally, it can be used to see how the gender ratio changes from birth to senior most age group and male to female ratio across each age group for Turkey.

Istanbul by far the most crowded city
Turkey has a dynamic population that increases every year. Even though the population growth rate has decreased in recent years, it has always shown positive values. With a population reaching 16 million, the most crowded Turkish city, Istanbul has more inhabitants than many European countries such as Austria, Greece, Bulgaria, and Belgium. Additionally, Ankara was the second most settled city in the country. The capital city of Turkey had a population of almost one-third of Istanbul’s, totaling 5.8 million. Turkish women live longer than men
In Turkey, the population has been tracked digitally by the Address Based Population Registration System (ABPRS) every year. The total population hit over 85 million as of 2023, of whom above 42.6 million were women. Considering the gender distribution, 50.05 percent of the country’s residents consisted of men. Interestingly, the share of women in Turkish society was significantly higher than men among the older age groups in 2022.

In contrast, illiterate individuals earned about 45,600 Turkish lira on average. Turkey was ranked third last out of 48 European countries in Rainbow Europe's annual rating of LGBTI rights in 2024, with an overall score of only 4.75 percent. The country performed poorly across every indicator included in the rankings, but did manage to achieve a positive score for civil society space and legal gender recognition. While Turkey has been heading in a less LGBTI-friendly direction for many years, with law-makers aligning with more traditionalist Islamic values, there have been some positive signs recently, such as the Supreme Court's judgement that banning gay pride events is unconstitutional.
