The US has historically been the target country for Twitter since its launch in 2006. This is the full breakdown of Twitter users by country.
Between June and December 2022, Twitter accounts of political right-wing media in Brazil grew their follower count by 53.58 percent, while right-wing Brazilian political handles on the platform had an audience increase of around 40.55 percent. On the other hand, Twitter accounts for left-wing politics in Brazil only increased their follower count by 25.28 percent.
This development happened alongside Elon Musk first attempt of terminating the contract of acquiring Twitter in July 2022, but finally closing the deal by the end of October 2022. The billionaire's defense of free speech principles and his suggestions of allowing blocked accounts back to the microblogging platform, like from former United States president Donald Trump, attracted a flock of right-wing audiences, who felt displaced by the content and account moderation of mainstream networks.

Information represented through conventional text may fall short of capturing the attention and promoting engagement with today’s digital audience. Transforming text into visual tools, such as infographics, has emerged as a simplified method of delivering information to attract a broader audience and enhance information dissemination. The first step to evaluate the potential value of infographics is to quantify their appeal and engagement rates over conventional text. This retrospective pilot analysis sought to evaluate the difference between engagement rates for tweets containing an of infographic compared to tweets containing a link to a peer-reviewed journal article. A total of 752 tweets were published within the study period; of these, 40 tweets met inclusion criteria. When engagement rates were compared, there was an increase in median engagement rates for tweets containing an infographic compared to a tweet linked to a peer-reviewed article at 10.97% (IQR 3.47%) and 5.33% (IQR 3.17%), respectively. This pilot study provides insight on the potential impact for infographics to enhance engagement rate, which may subsequently correlate with an increase in audience reach and readership. Prospective studies are needed to validate the utility of infographics in promoting scholarship publicity, learner engagement, and as a transferable pedagogical tool to educate medical practitioners.

Social media is ubiquitous in popular culture and is used by individuals and businesses to build a brand and interact with customers, but it is much more than a repository for advertising and banal statements about the state of an individual's lunch choices. Twitter, in particular, can be used to develop professional connections, share news regarding research and teaching, and collaborate with colleagues around the world in real time. This can be especially important for faculty teaching in smaller departments, where the opportunities for professional interactions with diverse colleagues are limited, although physicists from departments of all sizes can benefit from effective use of Twitter.

Number of followers, following, and tweets from public Twitter accounts for several scientific journals and some societies, publishers, and blog networks. Collected between October 2011 and January 2013. When plotted, there seem to be a few very fast-growing Twitter account, and a few slow ones, but the majority of accounts in this set (selected mainly based on initial follower number - see below) grows with the same rate. Sample set was originally chosen to compare the performance of the @Dev_journal Twitter account, so the initial selection contains mostly accounts within that same range, with some smaller accounts for sibling journals (from the same publisher) added without control for their size. (In other words: this is only useful to compare accounts that fall within the bulk of the graph.) New accounts were added later - those lack data for the first months. Over the course of data collection, two Twitter accounts were abandoned - those lack data for the last months. Data were collected in the middle of the month. The exact collection date is listed at the top of each column. Within each month, numbers for all Twitter accounts were collected on the same date.
