    Description

A dataset of all the meta-data for all of the datasets available through the data.gov.uk service. This is provided as a zipped CSV or JSON file. It is published nightly.

Updates: 27 Sep 2017: we've moved all the previous dumps to an S3 bucket at https://dgu-ckan-metadata-dumps.s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/ - This link is now listed here as a data file.

From 13/10/16 we added .v2.jsonl dump, which is set to replace the .json dump (which will be discontinued after a 3 month transition). This is produced using 'ckanapi dump'. It provides an enhanced version of each dataset ('validated', or what you get from package_show in CKAN API v3 - the old json was the unvalidated version). This now includes full details of the organization the dataset is in, rather than just the owner_id. Plus it includes the results of the archival & qa for each dataset and resource, showing whether the link is broken, detected format and stars of openness. It also benefits from being json lines http://jsonlines.org/ format, so you don't need to load the whole thing into memory to parse the json - just a line at a time.

On 12/1/2015 the organizations of the CSV was changed:

    • Before this date, each dataset was one line, and resources added as numbered columns. Since a dataset may have up to 300 resources, it ends up with 1025 columns, which is wider than many versions of Excel and Libreoffice will open. And the uncompressed size of 170Mb is more than most will deal with too. It is suggested you load it into a database, ahandle it with a python or ruby script, or use tools such as Refine or Google Fusion Tables.

    • After this date, the datasets are provided in one CSV and resources in another. On occasions that you want to join them, you can join them using the (dataset) "Name" column. These are now manageable in spreadsheet software.

You can also use the standard CKAN API if you want to search or get a small section of the data. Please respect the traffic limits in the API: http://data.gov.uk/terms-and-conditions

    Description

As of March 24, 2025, the net approval rating of the Labour government in the United Kingdom stood at -41 percent, up from -54 percent on February 16, which was a new low for the current government. As a comparison, the previous Conservative government's net approval rating was -56 percent just before the 2024 General Election, with a low of -76 percent recorded in October 2022. Starmer wins 2024 election After being in opposition for 14 years, Labour's victory in the 2024 general election was a huge achievement for Keir Starmer and his party. The unpopularity of the previous government was, however, one of the main reasons for their victory. When Labour voters were asked why they intended to vote for the party just before the election, the main reason by far was to get the Tories out. In the election, Labour only increased their vote share by 1.6 percent, with the Conservative party seeing their vote share decline by 19.9 percent. The performance of smaller parties, such as the Liberal Democrats and Reform UK, also hurt the Conservatives far more than the Labour Party. Labour's shaky start Although Starmer by no means rode a wave of popularity to Number 10, the decline in his government's approval rating is still quite severe. A series of unpopular policies, seen by the government as tough and necessary, are largely responsible for this decline. The early release of some prisoners in England and Wales, for example, was claimed as the only solution to severely overcrowded prisons. Meanwhile, changes to winter fuel allowances for pensioners, from being universal to means tested, were portrayed as an essential cost-cutting measure, but have proven to be one of Labour's least popular policies.

    Description

The Participation Survey has run since October 2021 and is the key evidence source on engagement for DCMS. It is a continuous push-to-web household survey of adults aged 16 and over in England.

The Participation Survey provides reliable estimates of physical and digital engagement with the arts, heritage, museums and galleries, and libraries, as well as engagement with tourism, major events, digital and live sports.

In 2023/24, DCMS partnered with Arts Council England (ACE) to boost the Participation Survey to be able to produce meaningful estimates at Local Authority level. This has enabled us to have the most granular data we have ever had, which means there will be some new questions and changes to existing questions, response options and definitions in the 23/24 survey. The questionnaire for 2023/24 has been developed collaboratively to adapt to the needs and interests of both DCMS and ACE.

Where there has been a change, we have highlighted where a comparison with previous data can or cannot be made. Questionnaire changes can affect results, therefore should be taken into consideration when interpreting the findings.

The Food and You Surveys (2010-2018), and Food and You 2 (2020- ) are bi-annual, cross-sectional surveys of adults aged 16 years and over living in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, commissioned by the Food Standards Agency. Food and You provides data about the prevalence of different attitudes, reported behaviour and knowledge about ways in which food is purchased, stored, prepared and eaten.

    Food and You, 2010-2018
From 2010, Food and You became the FSA’s flagship social survey. In addition, the FSA conducted regular tracking surveys including the bi-annual Public Attitudes Tracker and annual Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS) Consumer Attitudes Tracker (these studies are not held at UKDS. From Wave 4, Food and You included new questions to cover affordability of food, choice, security and sustainability.

    Food and You 2, 2020-
In 2018, the FSA’s Advisory Committee for Social Science (ACSS) recommended that Food and You and the Public Attitudes Tracker were replaced with a new ‘push-to-web’ survey, Food and You 2, which was commissioned in 2019 with data collection commencing in July 2020. Due to differences in the survey methodologies, comparisons cannot be made between the earlier Food and You surveys, or the Public Attitudes Tracker, and Food and You 2. Therefore Food and You 2, 2020 is the start of a new data time series. Data will be collected through Food and You 2 on a bi-annual basis. Unlike the previous surveys, as well as the standard End User Licence (EUL) study for Food and You 2 the UKDS also holds additional variables under Special Licence (see SN 8815).

Further information may be found on the FSA's Food and You Survey webpage.

The objectives of the Food and You Survey, 2014 were to collect quantitative information to enable the FSA to: explore public understanding of, and engagement with, the Agency's aim of improving food safety; identify specific target groups for future interventions (e.g. those most at risk or those among whom FSA policies and initiatives are likely to have the greatest impact); monitor changes over time (compared with data from Waves 1 and 2 or from other sources) in reported attitudes and behaviour; broaden the evidence base and develop indicators to assess progress in fulfilling the Agency’s strategic plans, aims and targets.
