This entry represents Sm-like protein Lsm1 and Lsm8. Lsm8 is found in the nuclear Lsm2-8 complex, which associates with multiple snRNP complexes containing the U6 snRNA (U4/U6 snRNP, U4/U6.U5 snRNP, and free U6 snRNP). The Lsm2-8 complex binds and stabilizes the 3'-terminal poly(U) tract of U6 snRNA and facilitates the assembly of U4-U6 di-snRNP and U4-U6-U5 tri-snRNP .Lsm1 can be found in the cytoplasmic Lsm1-7 complex, which associates with deadenylated mRNA and promotes decapping in the 5'-3' mRNA decay pathway .

Other entries related to work done on the withdrawn lands along the Salt River can be found at the following link: https://core.tdar.org/collection/27771 The Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) has identified approximately 1,270 acres of land for a Class III (intensive) cultural resource survey for Section 110 inventory purposes. The land was withdrawn for the Salt River Project (SRP) and is located upstream from the Granite Reef Diversion Dam on the south side of the Salt River. The withdrawn land is within the Tonto National Forest (TNF). At the request of Reclamation, Archaeological Consulting Services, Ltd. (ACS) conducted an intensive cultural resources survey of the project area to provide an inventory and assessment of cultural resources that might occur within the parcel. The fieldwork was conducted between February 28 and March 22, 2007, by Joanne C. Tactikos, Eric Dosh, Gabe Montgomery, Thomas Jones IV, and Jonathan Spiandorello, with an additional visit on April 27, 2007 by Joanne C. Tactikos and Thomas Jones IV, working under noncollection permit TON572 issued by TNF. Twelve sites and 233 isolated occurrences were identified. The photos taken during this survey can be found at https://core.tdar.org/image/393947. The photo log is available at https://core.tdar.org/document/393946.

Background: Complete mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) genome analyses have greatly improved the phylogeny and phylogeography of human mtDNA. Human mitochondrial DNA haplogroup U6 has been considered as a molecular signal of a Paleolithic return to North Africa of modern humans from southwestern Asia. Results: Using 230 complete sequences we have refined the U6 phylogeny, and improved the phylogeographic information by the analysis of 761 partial sequences. This approach provides chronological limits for its arrival to Africa, followed by its spreads there according to climatic fluctuations, and its secondary prehistoric and historic migrations out of Africa colonizing Europe, the Canary Islands and the American Continent. Conclusions: The U6 expansions and contractions inside Africa faithfully reflect the climatic fluctuations that occurred in this Continent affecting also the Canary Islands. Mediterranean contacts drove these lineages to Europe, at least since the Neolithic. In turn, the European colonization brought different U6 lineages throughout the American Continent leaving the specific sign of the colonizers origin.

During transcription, the nascent RNA can invade the DNA template, forming extended RNA-DNA duplexes (R-loops). Here we employ ChIP-seq in strains expressing or lacking RNase H to map targets of RNase H activity throughout the budding yeast genome. In wild-type strains, R-loops were readily detected over the 35S rDNA region, transcribed by Pol I, and over the 5S rDNA, transcribed by Pol III. In strains lacking RNase H activity, R-loops were elevated over other Pol III genes, notably tRNAs, SCR1 and U6 snRNA, and were also associated with the cDNAs of endogenous TY1 retrotransposons, which showed increased rates of mobility to the 5′-flanking regions of tRNA genes. Unexpectedly, R-loops were also associated with mitochondrial genes in the absence of RNase H1, but not of RNase H2. Finally, R-loops were detected on actively transcribed protein-coding genes in the wild-type, particularly over the second exon of spliced ribosomal protein genes.

LSM6 homolog, U6 small nuclear RNA and mRNA degradation associated Enables protein heterodimerization activity. Involved in mRNA splicing, via spliceosome. Acts upstream of or within mRNA catabolic process. Located in cytoplasm and nucleus. Part of Lsm2-8 complex; U2-type precatalytic spliceosome; and U4/U6 x U5 tri-snRNP complex. Sm-like proteins were identified in a variety of organisms based on sequence homology with the Sm protein family (see SNRPD2; MIM 601061). Sm-like proteins contain the Sm sequence motif, which consists of 2 regions separated by a linker of variable length that folds as a loop. The Sm-like proteins are thought to form a stable heteromer present in tri-snRNP particles, which are important for pre-mRNA splicing.[supplied by OMIM, Apr 2004]

Under contract with the Bureau of Reclamation, the Office of Cultural Resource Management (OCRM), Department of Anthropology, Arizona State University, completed an archaeological survey of Reach 12 and associated access roads. Reach 12 of the Granite Reef Aqueduct extends about 11 miles from Taliesin West Architectural School east to Schlechts Butte. This report describes the results of the archaeological surveys conducted along Reach 12 of the Granite Reef Aqueduct. Results suggest that the project area was part of a secondary resource zone, an area which apparently did not support a permanent population, but was utilized intermittently, probably on a seasonal basis. The aqueduct traverses the bajada and talus zones south of the McDowell Mountains. Three field loci, 55 isolated artifacts, recent features, and a petroglyph location were recorded during the Reach 12 survey. Based on relative density of cultural material dispersion, field loci were grouped into two sites: AZ U:6:4 (ASU) and AZ U:5:70 (ASU). Most of the sites are of indeterminate age, although they are likely associated with the Hohokam, Yuman, and/or Yavapai traditions.
