    Description

Data available online through the Arkansas Spatial Data Infrastructure (ASDI) at http://gis.arkansas.gov. The subject file represents the Arkansas portion of a geographic data set of runways in the United States and US territories containing information on the physical characteristics of the runways. The 8550 runways in the data set are supposed to include all of the runways associated with the 6734 airports in the companion airport data set Airports, 1998 (BTS). Data were obtained from the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) National Flight Data Center (NFDC) 5010 landing facilities data (January 1999). Landing facilities in this database consist of those identified in the NFDC 5010 database to be either publicly owned, or privately owned but open to the public, or owned by the U.S. military. The following landing facilities have been excluded: private landing facilities not open to the public, glider ports and ultra light landing facilities, as well as landing facilities that do not have a current LOCID assigned to them. Horizontal positional accuracy is based on coordinate data provided in the NFDC 5010 database. These coordinate data identify the approximate location of the Airport Reference Point (ARP) as reported by the landing facility on the NFDC 5010 form. According to NFDC guidelines, the location of the ARP should be reported to a horizontal accuracy of one arc second of latitude and longitude. However, the accuracy of these reported coordinates are not verified by FAA. The scale is unknown.

    Description

Aviation safety, and safety of people and property on the ground, can be affected by construction in the vicinity of an airport. The area influenced by airport rules and regulations can extend several miles from the airport boundary.

These are runways in Minnesota that have been documented by field data collection. MSP is the exception, their three runways are shown based upon FAA data.

The displays airports listed by the type of airport: airport, heliport or seaplane base and the accepted users. Those facilities listed as public are open to the public and those listed as private require prior permission from the owner.

The Runway Ends Table dataset is updated every 28 days from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)/Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD). The Runways database contains runways in the United States and US territories with information on the physical characteristics of the runways. Not all runways in this dataset have geospatial locations associated with them, as this is not a required data element from the airport source. As a result, this database contains a polyline layer, a points layer and a table. The polyline layer contains runways that had corresponding runways ends. The points layer contains mostly heliports, but also non-linear landing areas. The table contains runways where geospatial information was not reported. The runways in the database are associated with the airports dataset on NTAD, showing runways for all official and operational aerodromes. This geospatial data is derived from the FAA's National Airspace System Resource Aeronautical Data. The USGS Transportation downloadable data from The National Map (TNM) is based on TIGER/Line data provided through U.S. Census Bureau and supplemented with HERE road data to create tile cache base maps. Some of the TIGER/Line data includes limited corrections done by USGS. Transportation data consists of roads, railroads, trails, airports, and other features associated with the transport of people or commerce. The data include the name or route designator, classification, and location. Transportation data support general mapping and geographic information system technology analysis for applications such as traffic safety, congestion mitigation, disaster planning, and emergency response. The National Map transportation data is commonly combined with other data themes, such as boundaries, elevation, hydrography, and structures, to produce general reference base maps. The National Map viewer allows free downloads of public domain transportation data in either Esri File Geodatabase or Shapefile formats. For additional information on the transportation data model, go to https://www.usgs.gov/core-science-systems/national-geospatial-program/national-map.
