This document sets out the details of all schools in the pre-opening stage of the free school programme, including:

There are many different types of free school, including:

• primary
• secondary
• all-through
• for 16- to 19-year-olds
• special
• alternative provision

There are also a small number of maths schools. These are specialist free schools for the most mathematically able 16- to 19-year-olds.

Alongside free schools, there are university technical colleges (UTCs) and studio schools. These are mainly for 14- to 19-year-olds.

Section 6A of the http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2011/21/contents/enacted" class="govuk-link">Education Act 2011, which changed the arrangements for establishing new schools, is called the academy or free school presumption.

In 2018, we revised the regional and local authority (LA) level data on this page. To allow users to make multi-year and geographical comparisons more easily, we have now published a multi-year and multi-level file.

It includes estimates to account for schools who did not provide information in a given year for the staff headcount and full-time equivalent (FTE) numbers, so that year on year figures are comparable. Further work has also been done since the initial publication to improve the quality of the data upon which some of the other indicators were based.

The annual school capacity survey 2019 provides national and local authority level information as at 1 May 2019 on the numbers of:

• primary school places
• secondary school places
• unfilled school places
• pupils over school capacity

It also provides pupil number forecasts up to the:

• 2023 to 2024 academic year at primary level
• 2025 to 2026 academic year at secondary level

Additional tables, on estimated places needed at the national, local authority and planning area level, and capacity in school sixth forms, are also provided.

‘Section 6A approved and under consideration schools’ contains details of:

• academies and free schools that have approval
• free schools that do not yet have approval under the academies and free school presumption section of the Education and Inspections Act 2006

It includes the:

• name of the local authority
• proposed location of the school at the time of approval
• phase of education
• proposed opening date at the time of approval (which can change)

Data on the number of test kits sent to education settings in England and the methodology used to calculate this.

The data covers:

• tests sent from 4 January to 7 March 2021
• tests planned to be sent between 8 and 21 March 2021

The secondary school and multi-academy trust performance data (based on revised data) shows:

• attainment results for pupils at the end of key stage 4
• the progress made by pupils between the end of primary school and the end of secondary school

This publication provides information on the levels of overall, authorised and unauthorised absence in state-funded:

• primary schools
• secondary schools
• special schools

State-funded schools receive funding through their local authority or direct from the government.

It includes daily, weekly and year-to-date information on attendance and absence, in addition to reasons for absence. The release uses regular data automatically submitted to the Department for Education by participating schools.

The attached page includes links to attendance statistics published since September 2022.

The split sites factor was introduced into the 2024 to 2025 national funding formula (NFF), replacing the previous local authority led approach. The funding will be made up of basic and distance elements.

A list of free school applications for the wave 15 mainstream application round.

We assessed all applications against the published criteria.

The list includes the proposed schools’:

• name
• region
• local authority
• local authority district where relevant
• type of school
• phase
• age range
• faith ethos or designation where relevant
• type of post-16 curriculum to be offered

We separately sought the views of local authorities on the need for the school places proposed by applications in their area.

The list reflects information provided in the application form. The final location of approved applications may vary, depending on the availability of suitable sites. The information on the type of post-16 curriculum to be offered reflects the qualifications proposed in the application.

This statistical release presents information on:

• the income and expenditure of local authority maintained schools in England
• spending on education services and children’s and young people’s services

This statistical publication provides provisional information on the overall achievements of 16- to 18-year-olds who were at the end of 16 to 18 study by the end of the 2017 to 2018 academic year, including:

• A levels and other academic level 3 qualifications
• tech level and applied general qualifications
• level 2 vocational qualifications and technical certificate qualifications
• progress in English and maths qualifications (for students without an A* to C grade in these subjects at key stage 4)
• level 3 maths qualifications (for students with an A* to C grade in maths at key stage 4)
• level 3 value added progress and minimum standards (in revised publication only)

We published provisional figures for the 2017 to 2018 academic year in October 2018. The revised publication provide an update to the provisional figures. The revised figures incorporate the small number of amendments that awarding organisations, schools or colleges and local authorities submitted to the department after August 2018.

We have also published the https://www.compare-school-performance.service.gov.uk/" class="govuk-link">16 to 18 performance tables for 2018.

Following the main release of the 16 to 18 headline measures published on 24 January, we published additional information about the retention measure and the completion and attainment measure on 14 March 2019. Information about minimum standards on tech level qualifications is also published in this additional release.

The March publication also included multi-academy trust performance measures for the first time, detailing the performance of eligible trusts’ level 3 value added progress in the academic and applied general cohorts.

Following publication of revised data an issue was found affecting the aims records for 3 colleges, which had an impact on the student retention measures published on 14 March. In addition to planned changes between revised and final data to account for late amendments by institutions, the final https://www.compare-school-performance.service.gov.uk/schools-by-type?step=default&table=schools®ion=all-england&for=16to18" class="govuk-link">16 to 18 performance tables data published on 16 April corrected this issue.

The local authority scorecards include information on:
