An index to over 600 ground geophysical surveys carried out in the UK for a variety of projects. A large number of these surveys were done in conjunction with the DTI Mineral Reconnaissance Programme in the 1970's and 80's, and many others were carried out at the request of BGS field mapping groups. Information held describes the survey objective, location of measurements, geophysical methods and equipment used, reports and publications, storage locations of data and results (for analogue and digital data), dates and personnel. There are two datasets; one shows the outline of the survey areas, and the other shows the actual survey lines within each area.
"The map covers the Nottingham-Humberside and East Anglian G-Base survey areas only. The dataset comprises 2374 analyses from a subset of G-Base surface samples (0-20cm depth) taken at a density of 1 sample per 2km2. The texture data was captured for a joint research project between BGS, Rothamsted Research (https://www.rothamsted.ac.uk/)and Nottingham University (https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/geography/index.aspx), looking at methods of estimating particle size from geochemical analyses of topsoil. The work was originally published in the European Journal of Soil Science as a paper entitled "Estimating particle-size fractions of soil dominated by silicate minerals from geochemistry"(https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/j.1365-2389.2008.01112.x"" target=""_blank). The particle size analysis was carried out using laser granulometry and the data available in the viewer provides percentages (totalling 100%) of clay, silt and sand content. The map portrays the data in five simplified classes of soil. The European Soil Bureau code for the parent material underlying each sample is also provided."
This is a Locator for finding British National Grid references. It provides lookups on the British National Grid, which can be applied to all Ordnance Survey maps of Great Britain. You can use it to query by absolute coordinates or by tile. Both types of query return the centre point of the corresponding 10k grid square BNG tile. Enter grid coordinates as absolute XY: 123456, 654321 Enter tile queries as Grid squares: TL44; as sub tile: TQ1234 or; as quadrant SN1234SE
