A series of maps at the detailed scale of 1:25 000 have been produced for areas of outstanding geological interest in Great Britain. Some maps are accompanied by explanatory booklets. The maps were published between 1954 and 2007. About 60 maps have been published, some showing solid geology, some drift geology and some combined solid and drift. Most of the maps include geological cross sections and generalised vertical sections. Geological maps represent a geologist's compiled interpretation of the geology of an area. A geologist will consider the data available at the time, including measurements and observations collected during field campaigns, as well as their knowledge of geological processes and the geological context to create a model of the geology of an area. This model is then fitted to a topographic basemap and drawn up at the appropriate scale, with generalization if necessary, to create a geological map, which is a representation of the geological model. Explanatory notes and vertical and horizontal cross sections may be published with the map. Geological maps may be created to show various aspects of the geology, or themes. These maps are hard-copy paper records stored in the National Geoscience Data Centre (NGDC) and are delivered as digital scans through the BGS website.

AONBs are also known as National Landscapes.Under the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000, Natural England has the power to designate AONBs in England that are outside national parks and that are considered to have such natural beauty it is desirable they are conserved and enhanced; issue a variation order to change an existing AONB boundary. It also holds a duty to give advice on developments taking place in an AONB; take into account the conservation and enhancement of AONBs in its work.National Landscapes are living places. For England, Scotland and Wales, these estimates were generated using public transport schedule data for Tuesday 15th November 2022. For Northern Ireland, the date used is Tuesday 6th December 2022.The data is made available as a set of ESRI shape files, in .zip format. They are available for selected areas of outstanding geological interest in the United Kingdom, and in a number of versions (Solid, or Solid and Drift combined, Bedrock or Superficial). This dataset contains recreation demand maps for the UK based on weekly, monthly and yearly visit frequencies. Recreation includes activities such as walking, hiking, cycling, etc, i.e., âoutdoor non-vehicular recreationâ. Recreation demand was calculated as the number of projected visits for local recreation, estimated using the universal law of human mobility (Schläpfer et al., 2021, Nature). Recreation demand maps are supplied at 250 m resolution in a British National Grid transverse Mercator projection (EPSG 27700). For each visit frequency (weekly, monthly and yearly), there is a map with and without attractiveness included in the calculation, where protected areas are used a proxy for attractiveness. This research was funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) under research programme NE/W005050/1 AgZero+ : Towards sustainable, climate-neutral farming. AgZero+ is an initiative jointly supported by NERC and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC).

TwitterThis global accessibility map enumerates land-based travel time to the nearest densely-populated area for all areas between 85 degrees north and 60 degrees south for a nominal year 2015. Densely-populated areas are defined as contiguous areas with 1,500 or more inhabitants per square kilometre or a majority of built-up land cover types coincident with a population centre of at least 50,000 inhabitants. This map was produced through a collaboration between MAP (University of Oxford), Google, the European Union Joint Research Centre (JRC), and the University of Twente, Netherlands.The underlying datasets used to produce the map include roads (comprising the first ever global-scale use of Open Street Map and Google roads datasets), railways, rivers, lakes, oceans, topographic conditions (slope and elevation), landcover types, and national borders. These datasets were each allocated a speed or speeds of travel in terms of time to cross each pixel of that type. The datasets were then combined to produce a "friction surface"; a map where every pixel is allocated a nominal overall speed of travel based on the types occurring within that pixel. Least-cost-path algorithms (running in Google Earth Engine and, for high-latitude areas, in R) were used in conjunction with this friction surface to calculate the time of travel from all locations to the nearest (in time) city. The cities dataset used is the high-density-cover product created by the Global Human Settlement Project. Processing notes: Data were processed from numerous sources including OpenStreetMap, Google Maps, Land Cover mapping, and others, to generate a global friction surface of average land-based travel speed. This accessibility surface was then derived from that friction surface via a least-cost-path algorithm finding at each location the closest point from global databases of population centres and densely-populated areas. This dataset is the 2018 Corine Land Cover map, consisting of 44 classes in the hierarchical three level Corine nomenclature. Corine Land Cover (CLC) 2018, CLC change 2012-2018 and CLC 2012 revised are three of the datasets produced within the frame of the Copernicus programme on land monitoring. Corine Land Cover (CLC) provides consistent information on land cover and land cover changes across Europe; these two maps are the UK component of Europe. This inventory was initiated in 1985 (reference year 1990) and established a time series of land cover information with updates in 2000, 2006 and 2012 being the last iteration. CLC products are based on photointerpretation of satellite images by national teams of participating countries â the EEA member and cooperating countries â following a standard methodology and nomenclature with the following base parameters: 44 classes in the hierarchical three level Corine nomenclature; minimum mapping unit (MMU) of status layers is 25 hectares; minimum width of linear elements is 100 metres; minimum mapping unit (MMU) for Land Cover Changes (LCC) for the change layers is 5 hectares. The resulting national land cover inventories are further integrated into a seamless land cover map of Europe. Land cover and land use (LCLU) information is important not only for land change research, but also more broadly for the monitoring of environmental change, policy support, the creation of environmental indicators and reporting. CLC datasets provide important datasets supporting the implementation of key priority areas of the Environment Action Programmes of the European Union as protecting ecosystems, halting the loss of biological diversity, tracking the impacts of climate change, assessing developments in agriculture and implementing the EU Water Framework Directive, among others. is a national composite dataset of Access layers, showing analysis of extent of
Access provision for each Lower Super Output Area (LSOA), as a percentage or
area coverage of access in England. The âAccess Network Mapâ was developed by
Natural England to inform its work to improve opportunities for people to enjoy
the natural environment. This map shows, across England, the
relative abundance of accessible land in relation to where people
live. Due to issues explained below, the map does not, and cannot, provide
a definitive statement of where intervention is necessary. Rather,
it should be used to identify areas of interest which require further
exploration. Natural England believes that places where
people can enjoy the natural environment should be improved and created where
they are most wanted. Access Network Maps help support this work by
providing means to assess the amount of accessible land available in relation
to where people live. They combine all the available good quality data on
access provision into a single dataset and relate this to population.
This provides a common foundation for regional and national teams to use when
targeting resources to improve public access to greenspace, or projects that
rely on this resource. The Access Network Maps are compiled from the
datasets available to Natural England which contain robust, nationally
consistent data on land and routes that are normally available to the public

point data only Due to the quantity and complexity of data
used, it is not possible to display clearly on a single map the precise
boundary of accessible land for all areas. We therefore selected a
unit which would be clearly visible at a variety of scales and calculated the
total area (in hectares) of accessible land in each. The units we
selected are âLower Super Output Areasâ (LSOAs), which represent where
approximately 1,500 people live based on postcode. To calculate the
total area of accessible land for each we gave the linear routes a notional
width of 3 metres so they could be measured in hectares. We then
combined together all the datasets and calculated the total hectares of
