    In 1965, concerned about the impact of development along the coast, the National Trust launched ‘Enterprise Neptune’ to help raise money to buy and protect the most ‘pristine’ stretches. In order to understand which areas were most at risk from development, University of Reading staff & students were commissioned to carry out a physical coastal land use survey that was lovingly recorded on 350 OS 2.5 miles to 1 inch scale maps (1965 Coastal Land Use dataset).

    Half a century later, the Neptune Coastline Campaign, has raised £65 million, enabling the National Trust to acquire an additional 550 miles of coastline to a total of 775 miles. To celebrate this milestone the Trust commissioned the University of Leicester to re-survey the land use along the coast with a desktop methodology that focused on change.

    Supplementary information files for article: 'The future scope of large-scale solar in the UK: site suitability and target analysis'.Abstract:This paper uses site suitability analysis to identify locations for solar farms in the UK to help meet climate change targets. A set of maps, each representing a given suitability criterion, is created with geographical information systems (GIS) software. These are combined to give a Boolean map of areas which are appropriate for large-scale solar farm installation. Several scenarios are investigated by varying the criteria, which include geographical (land use) factors, solar energy resource and electrical distribution network constraints. Some are dictated by the physical and technical requirements of large-scale solar construction, and some by government or distribution network operator (DNO) policy. It is found that any suitability map which does not heed planning permission and grid constraints will overstate potential solar farm area by up to 97%. This research finds sufficient suitable land to meet Future Energy Scenarios (UK National Grid outlines for the coming energy landscape).

     A joint project to provide orthorectified satellite image mosaics of Landsat,
     SPOT and ERS radar data and a high resolution Digital Elevation Model for the

     other data, such as road networks, so that any user can quickly produce a
     precise map of their area of interest.
    
     Predominately aimed at the UK academic and educational sectors these data and
     software are held online at the Manchester University super computer facility
     where users can either process the data remotely or download it to their local

Listing of computer software for the gene mapping community on the following topics: genetic linkage analysis for human pedigree data, QTL analysis for animal/plant breeding data, genetic marker ordering, genetic association analysis, haplotype construction, pedigree drawing, and population genetics. The inclusion of a program should not be interpreted as an endorsement to that program from us. In the last few years, new technology produces new types of genetic data, and the scope of genetic analyses change dramatically. It is no longer obvious whether a program should be included or excluded from this list. Topics such as next-generation-sequencing (NGS), gene expression, genomics annotation, etc. can all be relevant to a genetic study, yet be specialized topics by themselves. Though programs on variance calling from NSG can be in, those can sequence alignment might be out; programs on eQTL can be in, those on differential expression might be out.
