    Description

    On the Strategic Road Network (SRN) for the year ending March 2021, the average delay is estimated to be 5.9 seconds per vehicle per mile compared to speed limits travel times, a 36.6% decrease compared to the year ending March 2020.

    The average speed is estimated to be 62.6mph, 6.3% up on the year ending March 2020.

    In the year ending March 2021, on average 34.1% of additional time was needed compared to speed limits travel times, on individual road sections of the SRN to ensure on time arrival. This is down 32.2 percentage points compared to the year ending March 2020, so on average a lower proportion of additional time is required.

    On local ‘A’ roads for the year ending March 2021, the average delay is estimated to be 32.0 seconds per vehicle per mile compared to free flow travel times. This is a decrease of 26.8% on March 2020.

    The average speed is estimated to be 27.8 mph. This is an increase of 9.9% relative to the year ending March 2020.

    Please note that figures for the SRN and local ‘A’ roads are not directly comparable.

    The outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) has had a marked impact on everyday life, including on congestion on the road network. As these data are affected by the coronavirus pandemic in the UK, caution should be taken when interpreting these statistics and comparing them with previous time periods. The congestion metrics remain below the anticipated levels for March 2021.

    On the Strategic Road Network (SRN) for 2020, the average delay is estimated to be 6.7 seconds per vehicle per mile compared to speed limits travel times, a 29.5% decrease compared to 2019.

    The average speed is estimated to be 61.8mph, 5.1% up on 2019.

    In 2020, on average 42.1% of additional time was needed compared to speed limits travel times, on individual road sections of the SRN to ensure on time arrival. This is down 25.2 percentage points compared to 2019, so on average a lower proportion of additional time is required.

    On local ‘A’ roads for 2020, the average delay is estimated to be 33.9 seconds per vehicle per mile compared to free flow travel times. This is a decrease of 22.8% on 2019.

    The average speed is estimated to be 27.3 mph. This is an increase of 8.2% on 2019.

    Please note a break in the statistical time series for local ‘A’ roads travel times has been highlighted beginning January 2019.

    Please note that figures for the SRN and local ‘A’ roads are not directly comparable.

    The outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) has had a marked impact on everyday life, including on congestion on the road network.     The Network Model digitally represents England’s Strategic Road Network. The model contains critical information about our road’s location, names, lanes and widths.The Network Model was derived from Ordnance Survey (OS) Highways data and enriched with internal datasets. It reflects National Highways roads that are open for traffic and have been validated against our Operational Highway Boundary (RedLine).To ensure the model remains accurate, we have implemented processes to track changes across the network. However, if you have noticed any inaccuracies in the data, please report it here.     This is the simplified version of the outline Reservoir Flood Map Outline (Speed) as shown on the gov.uk Flood Risk website. This is one of 3 available "Risk of Flooding from Reservoirs" Web Mapping Services; Maximum Flood Depth, Maximum Flood Extent, Maximum Flood Speed.

    . Simplified in this context refers to the fact that unlike the detailed product, individual reservoir flood map speeds are not shown separately, and one merged outline shows the maximum flood speeds for all reservoir flooding scenarios together.

    This is a data layer showing a combined reservoir flood map for 2,092 Large Raised Reservoirs including attributed data. The data shows the maximum speed of flooding should reservoirs be breached, and although the location of each reservoir can be inferred they are not explicitly shown on the maps. The Reservoir Flood Map Maximum Flood Outline (Speed) in its simplified form is referred to externally as Risk of Flooding from Reservoirs – Maximum Flood Speed.

    The Reservoir Flood Map Outline (Speed) shows the maximum flood speeds that might be expected if a reservoir were to fail and release the water it holds. Since this is a prediction of a credible worst case scenario, it’s unlikely that any actual flooding would create speeds this high. These data are intended for emergency planning only and are not reliable for large scale flood risk assessments.

    Please note that only flood maps for large reservoirs are displayed. Flood maps are not displayed for smaller reservoirs or for reservoirs commissioned after reservoir mapping began in spring 2009.

    This dataset is not suitable for identifying whether an individual property will flood. It is a GIS layer showing the maximum depth of flooding from surface water that could result from a flood with a 1% chance of happening in any given year. The flood depth is grouped into 6 bands. NB: the maximum depth may not happen at the same time as the maximum speed of flow. This dataset is one output of our Risk of Flooding from Surface Water (RoFSW) mapping, previously known as the updated Flood Map for Surface Water (uFMfSW). It is one of a group of datasets previously available as the uFMfSW Complex Package. Further information on using these datasets can be found at the Resource Locator link below. Information Warnings: Risk of Flooding from Surface Water is not to be used at property level. If the Content is displayed in map form to others we recommend it should not be used with basemapping more detailed than 1:10,000 as the data is open to misinterpretation if used as a more detailed scale. Because of the way they have been produced and the fact that they are indicative, the maps are not appropriate to act as the sole evidence for any specific planning or regulatory decision or assessment of risk in relation to flooding at any scale without further supporting studies or evidence.
