In June 2025, the global average price per pound of uranium stood at roughly 59.58 U.S. dollars. Uranium prices peaked in June 2007, when it reached 136.22 U.S. dollars per pound. The average annual price of uranium in 2024 was 69.69 U.S. dollars per pound. Global uranium production Uranium is a heavy metal, and it is most commonly used as a nuclear fuel. Nevertheless, due to its high density, it is also used in the manufacturing of yacht keels and as a material for radiation shielding. Over the past 50 years, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan together dominated uranium production worldwide. Uranium in the future Since uranium is used in the nuclear energy sector, demand has been constantly growing within the last years. Furthermore, the global recoverable resources of uranium increased between 2015 and 2021. Even though this may appear as sufficient to fulfill the increasing need for uranium, it was forecast that by 2035 the uranium demand will largely outpace the supply of this important metal.

The global commercial uranium conversion services market, valued at $1055 million in 2025, is projected to experience robust growth, driven primarily by the increasing demand for nuclear energy globally. This demand stems from several factors: the ongoing need for reliable baseload power generation, particularly in countries with ambitious decarbonization goals; the increasing focus on nuclear energy's role in energy security; and the growing interest in exploring advanced reactor technologies that improve efficiency and safety. The market's growth is further fueled by the expansion of existing nuclear power plants and the construction of new ones, particularly in Asia and the Middle East. The two primary segments, application (electricity generation being the dominant driver) and supply type (one-time supply currently holding a larger market share than secondary supply), will both see considerable expansion throughout the forecast period. However, regulatory hurdles, particularly concerning nuclear waste management and safety protocols, along with fluctuating uranium prices, could act as constraints to market growth. The leading players, including Orano, Cameco, ConverDyn, and Rosatom, are continuously investing in improving their conversion technologies, focusing on efficiency gains and waste reduction, solidifying their market positions and influencing market dynamics. The forecast period (2025-2033) anticipates a consistent growth trajectory, fueled by the factors previously mentioned. The CAGR of 5.5% suggests a steady increase in market value. While regional variations will exist (North America and Asia Pacific are expected to dominate the market), the global nature of uranium supply chains implies interconnectedness, making the market relatively resilient to regional economic fluctuations. Growth in specific applications like hydrogen production and desalination could emerge as significant drivers in the latter half of the forecast period, contributing to the overall market expansion. Competitive dynamics among major players will likely remain intense, with a focus on technological advancements, cost optimization, and securing long-term contracts to maintain market share. The market's future hinges on the successful implementation of new nuclear power projects and the continued global transition towards cleaner energy sources, which significantly involve the need for uranium conversion services.

    Description

Uranium and metal ore miners have exhibited constant shifts in revenue as commodity prices have fluctuated amid global supply and demand conditions. While the pandemic severely hampered production as lockdowns shut down mining activities, miners benefited from the overall positive movement of platinum and uranium. As mines reopened and the need for these minerals remains strong, production and prices swelled, providing miners with a robust recovery period. Overall, industry revenue has climbed at a CAGR of 12.6% to an estimated $5.1 billion, through the end of 2025. Revenue will dip 3.2% in 2025 as molybdenum and uranium prices push down. While platinum group metals (PGMs) have always been a consistent revenue source, uranium's resurgence has fueled growth. While Canada has always been one of the largest uranium producers, production saw a boost as countries sought alternate forms of energy amid oil and gas price hikes after the pandemic. The reopening of the McArthur Lake mine in late 2022 was amplified as the need for uranium was through the roof despite the risks of nuclear power. Uranium prices went up double digits each year from 2020 through 2024, with only a 7.9% dip in 2025. This substantial growth allowed uranium to surpass platinum as the industry’s largest product segment. Revenue is set to continue growing as the price of uranium, platinum and molybdenum all push upward. Platinum group production will continue to creep up as well, as mines have yet to reach total capacity. China's need for nuclear power is slated to swell in the coming years and new reactors are likely to come online, supporting the need for uranium from overseas. As more consumers opt for electric vehicles (EVs), miners will exhibit an uptick in cobalt sales as the metal is needed to produce EV batteries. Mining companies will also look to implement new technologies to bolster efficiency and production while reducing costs, helping to maintain profitability. Overall, revenue is projected to grow at a CAGR of 2.7%, reaching $5.8 billion by the end of 2030.

Secondly, the global drive towards decarbonization is creating opportunities for hydrogen production, with nuclear energy playing a crucial role as a clean and sustainable energy source for this process. Furthermore, advancements in enrichment technologies are improving efficiency and reducing costs, further stimulating market growth. However, challenges remain, including concerns about nuclear waste disposal, fluctuating uranium prices, and the political complexities surrounding nuclear power development in various regions.
Despite these challenges, the long-term outlook for the uranium enrichment and conversion market remains positive. The continued expansion of nuclear power fleets globally, coupled with increasing investment in advanced reactor technologies, ensures a consistent demand for enriched uranium over the forecast period. Market segmentation reveals a dominance of the electricity generation application, closely followed by a growing segment focused on hydrogen production. The geographical distribution of the market shows significant concentration in North America and Europe, with Asia Pacific exhibiting strong growth potential. Key players like Orano, Cameco, ConverDyn, and Rosatom are actively engaged in expanding their capacities and exploring technological advancements to maintain their competitive edge. The market’s ongoing evolution will be influenced by regulatory landscapes, technological innovations, and the broader global energy transition. A more diverse supply chain and improved public perception of nuclear power are critical factors for sustained growth in this crucial sector.
