Context
The dataset presents median income data over a decade or more for males and females categorized by Total, Full-Time Year-Round (FT), and Part-Time (PT) employment in Fulton County. It showcases annual income, providing insights into gender-specific income distributions and the disparities between full-time and part-time work. The dataset can be utilized to gain insights into gender-based pay disparity trends and explore the variations in income for male and female individuals.
Key observations: Insights from 2023
Based on our analysis ACS 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates, we present the following observations: - All workers, aged 15 years and older: In Fulton County, the median income for all workers aged 15 years and older, regardless of work hours, was $61,015 for males and $42,123 for females.
These income figures highlight a substantial gender-based income gap in Fulton County. Women, regardless of work hours, earn 69 cents for each dollar earned by men. This significant gender pay gap, approximately 31%, underscores concerning gender-based income inequality in the county of Fulton County.
- Full-time workers, aged 15 years and older: In Fulton County, among full-time, year-round workers aged 15 years and older, males earned a median income of $89,275, while females earned $67,085, leading to a 25% gender pay gap among full-time workers. This illustrates that women earn 75 cents for each dollar earned by men in full-time roles. This analysis indicates a widening gender pay gap, showing a substantial income disparity where women, despite working full-time, face a more significant wage discrepancy compared to men in the same roles.Surprisingly, the gender pay gap percentage was higher across all roles, including non-full-time employment, for women compared to men. This suggests that full-time employment offers a more equitable income scenario for women compared to other employment patterns in Fulton County.
When available, the data consists of estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates. All incomes have been adjusting for inflation and are presented in 2023-inflation-adjusted dollars.

This dataset contains the average real wages for Fulton County, metro Atlanta and the U.S. calculated semi-annually. Real wages represent actual (nominal) wages adjusted for inflation using the Consumer Price Index (CPI). Real wages are expressed in terms of 1982-1984 dollars. Semi-annual numbers are used because local area wages are reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) quarterly and CPI is reported every two months; therefore, reporting periods coincide twice a year. Real wages are reported as moving 12-month averages in order to better illustrate the general trend over time. Nominal wages and CPI are from the BLS; semi-annual real wages are calculated by the Fulton County Strategy & Performance Management Office.

This layer was developed by the Research & Analytics Group of the Atlanta Regional Commission, using data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey 5-year estimates for 2013-2017, to show unemployment numbers and percentages by Regional Commission in the Atlanta region.
The user should note that American Community Survey data represent estimates derived from a surveyed sample of the population, which creates some level of uncertainty, as opposed to an exact measure of the entire population (the full census count is only conducted once every 10 years and does not cover as many detailed characteristics of the population). Therefore, any measure reported by ACS should not be taken as an exact number – this is why a corresponding margin of error (MOE) is also given for ACS measures. The size of the MOE relative to its corresponding estimate value provides an indication of confidence in the accuracy of each estimate. Each MOE is expressed in the same units as its corresponding measure; for example, if the estimate value is expressed as a number, then its MOE will also be a number; if the estimate value is expressed as a percent, then its MOE will also be a percent.
The user should also note that for relatively small geographic areas, such as census tracts shown here, ACS only releases combined 5-year estimates, meaning these estimates represent rolling averages of survey results that were collected over a 5-year span (in this case 2013-2017). Therefore, these data do not represent any one specific point in time or even one specific year. For geographic areas with larger populations, 3-year and 1-year estimates are also available.
