The Commodity Flow Survey (CFS) is undertaken through a partnership between the U.S. Census Bureau, U.S. Department of Commerce, and the Research and Innovation Technology Administration, Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), U.S. Department of Transportation. This survey produces data on the movement of goods in the United States. It provides information on commodities shipped, their value, weight, and mode of transportation, as well as the origin and destination of shipments of manufacturing, mining, wholesale, and select retail and services establishments. The data from the CFS are used by public policy analysts and for transportation planning and decision making to access the demand for transportation facilities and services, energy use, and safety risk and environmental concerns. This dataset provides data for the Exports Series.

The Economic Census is the U.S. Government's official five-year measure of American business and the economy. It is conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, and response is required by law. In October through December of the census year, forms are sent out to nearly 4 million businesses, including large, medium and small companies representing all U.S. locations and industries. Respondents were asked to provide a range of operational and performance data for their companies.This dataset presents data on major categories of products sold/services rendered for establishments of firms with payroll by kind of business.

The U.S. Census Bureau TIGER/Line® files in this data collection were originally distributed by the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) through its TIGER/Line file web site, which was decommissioned in 2018 (archived version: https://web.archive.org/web/20090924181858/http://www.icpsr.umich.edu/TIGER/index.html). There, users could download various versions of the U.S. Census Bureau's TIGER (Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing) database. The TIGER/Line files do not include demographic data, but they do contain geographic information that can be linked to the Census Bureau’s demographic data. Due to file number limitations in openICPSR, the original data collections have been bundled into single zip packages. A single TIGER_directory.txt file listing the original files and the original directory structure is included with the root directory. Documentation files are also included as standalone subdirectories in each collection so users do not need to download entire zip bundles to view documentation. The TIGER/Line data are stored in compressed format in subdirectories by state name. There is one TIGER/Line file (in a compressed format) for each county or county equivalent. The file names consist of TGR + the 2-digit state FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standards) code + the 3-digit county FIPS code (i.e. TGR01031.ZIP for Coffee County, Alabama). Each state folder contains individual county files.The individual county files include one file for each record type included for that county with the following name convention: tgr01031.rt1. The convention follows the order described above with each file having a suffix which includes 'rt' (record type) followed by its designation (in this case record type 1). Each county file also contains its own metadata record.If present, documentation files for the TIGER/Line data are stored in a directory named '0docs' which is located in the 'Parent Directory'. The Census Bureau includes landmarks in the MTDB for locating special features and to help enumerators during field operations. Some of the more common landmark types include area landmarks such as airports, cemeteries, parks, mountain peaks/summits, schools, and churches and other religious institutions. The Census Bureau has added landmark features to MTDB on an as-needed basis and made no attempt to ensure that all instances of a particular feature were included. The presence or absence of a landmark such as a hospital or prison does not mean that the living quarters associated with that landmark were geocoded to that census tabulation block or excluded from the census

The TIGER/Line Files are shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) that are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line File is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. Census tracts are small, relatively permanent statistical subdivisions of a county or equivalent entity, and were defined by local participants as part of the 2020 Census Participant Statistical Areas Program. The Census Bureau delineated the census tracts in situations where no local participant existed or where all the potential participants declined to participate. The primary purpose of census tracts is to provide a stable set of geographic units for the presentation of census data and comparison back to previous decennial censuses. Census tracts generally have a population size between 1,200 and 8,000 people, with an optimum size of 4,000 people. When first delineated, census tracts were designed to be homogeneous with respect to population characteristics, economic status, and living conditions. The spatial size of census tracts varies widely depending on the density of settlement. Physical changes in street patterns caused by highway construction, new development, and so forth, may require boundary revisions. In addition, census tracts occasionally are split due to population growth, or combined as a result of substantial population decline. Census tract boundaries generally follow visible and identifiable features. They may follow legal boundaries such as minor civil division (MCD) or incorporated place boundaries in some States and situations to allow for census tract-to-governmental unit relationships where the governmental boundaries tend to remain unchanged between censuses. State and county boundaries always are census tract boundaries in the standard census geographic hierarchy. In a few rare instances, a census tract may consist of noncontiguous areas. These noncontiguous areas may occur where the census tracts are coextensive with all or parts of legal entities that are themselves noncontiguous. For the 2020 Census, the census tract code range of 9400 through 9499 was enforced for census tracts that include a majority American Indian population according to Census 2000 data and/or their area was primarily covered by federally recognized American Indian reservations and/or off-reservation trust lands; the code range 9800 through 9899 was enforced for those census tracts that contained little or no population and represented a relatively large special land use area such as a National Park, military installation, or a business/industrial park; and the code range 9900 through 9998 was enforced for those census tracts that contained only water area, no land area.

The Population online databases contain data from the US Census Bureau. The Census Estimates online database contains county-level population counts for years 1970 - 2000. The data comprise the April 1st Census counts for years 1970, 1980, 1990 and 2000, the July 1st intercensal estimates for years 1971-1979 and 1981-1989, and the July 1st postcensal estimates for years 1991-1999. The Census Projections online database contains population projections for years 2004-2030 by year, state, age, race and sex, produced by the Census Bureau in 2005. Abstract (en): The numbers contained in this study are released pursuant to the order of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in Carter v. Department of Commerce, 307 F.3d 1084. These numbers are not official Census 2000 counts. These numbers are estimates of the population based on a statistical adjustment method, utilizing sampling and modeling, applied to the official Census 2000 figures. The estimates utilized the results of the Accuracy and Coverage Evaluation (A.C.E.), a sample survey intended to measure net over- and undercounts in the census results. The Census Bureau has determined that the A.C.E. estimates dramatically overstate the level of undercoverage in Census 2000, and that the adjusted Census 2000 data are, therefore, not more accurate than the unadjusted data. On March 6, 2001, the Secretary of Commerce decided that unadjusted data from Census 2000 should be used to tabulate population counts reported to states and localities pursuant to 13 U.S.C. 141(c) (see 66 FR 14520, March 13, 2001). The Secretary's decision endorsed the unanimous recommendation of the Executive Steering Committee for A.C.E. Policy (ESCAP), a group of 12 senior career professionals within the Census Bureau. The ESCAP, in its recommendation against the use of the statistically adjusted estimates, had noted serious reservations regarding their accuracy. In order to inform the Census Bureau's planned October 2001 decision regarding the potential use of the adjusted estimates for non-redistricting purposes, the agency conducted extensive analyses throughout the summer of 2001. These extensive analyses confirmed the serious concerns the agency had noted earlier regarding the accuracy of the A.C.E. estimates. Specifically, the adjusted estimates were determined to be so severely flawed that all potential uses of these data would be inappropriate. Accordingly, the Department of Commerce deems that these estimates should not be used for any purpose that legally requires use of data from the decennial census and assumes no responsibility for the accuracy of the data for any purpose whatsoever. The Department, including the U.S. Census Bureau, will provide no assistance in the interpretation or use of these numbers. The collection contains four tables: (1) a count of all persons by race (Table PL1), (2) a count of Hispanic or Latino and a count of not Hispanic or Latino by race of all persons (Table PL2), (3) a count of the population 18 years and older by race (Table PL3), and (4) a count of Hispanic or Latino and a count of not Hispanic or Latino by race for the population 18 years and older (Table PL4). ICPSR data undergo a confidentiality review and are altered when necessary to limit the risk of disclosure. ICPSR also routinely creates ready-to-go data files along with setups in the major statistical software formats as well as standard codebooks to accompany the data.
