    Description

In December 2024, the news website with the most monthly visits in the United States was nytimes.com, with a total of 463.07 million monthly visits in that month. In second place was cnn.com with close to 357 million visits, followed by foxnews.com with just over a quater of a million. Online news consumption in the U.S. Americans get their news in a variety of ways, but social media is an increasingly popular option. A survey on social media news consumption revealed that 55 percent of Twitter users regularly used the site for news, and Facebook and Reddit were also popular for news among their users. Interestingly though, social media is the least trusted news sources in the United States. News and trust Trust in news sources has become increasingly important to the American news consumer amidst the spread of fake news, and the public are more vocal about whether or not they have faith in a source to report news correctly. Ongoing discussions about the credibility, accuracy and bias of news networks, anchors, TV show hosts, and news media professionals mean that those looking to keep up to date tend to be more cautious than ever before. In general, news audiences are skeptical. In 2020, just nine percent of respondents to a survey investigating the perceived objectivity of the mass media reported having a great deal of trust in the media to report news fully, accurately, and fairly.

    Description

Quality of life is a measure of comfort, health, and happiness by a person or a group of people. Quality of life is determined by both material factors, such as income and housing, and broader considerations like health, education, and freedom. Each year, US & World News releases its “Best States to Live in” report, which ranks states on the quality of life each state provides its residents. In order to determine rankings, U.S. News & World Report considers a wide range of factors, including healthcare, education, economy, infrastructure, opportunity, fiscal stability, crime and corrections, and the natural environment. More information on these categories and what is measured in each can be found below:

Healthcare includes access, quality, and affordability of healthcare, as well as health measurements, such as obesity rates and rates of smoking. Education measures how well public schools perform in terms of testing and graduation rates, as well as tuition costs associated with higher education and college debt load. Economy looks at GDP growth, migration to the state, and new business. Infrastructure includes transportation availability, road quality, communications, and internet access. Opportunity includes poverty rates, cost of living, housing costs and gender and racial equality. Fiscal Stability considers the health of the government's finances, including how well the state balances its budget. Crime and Corrections ranks a state’s public safety and measures prison systems and their populations. Natural Environment looks at the quality of air and water and exposure to pollution.

    Description

This Excel file contains four tabs based on data hand-collected from geographical peer institutions to compare library salaries. In some instances, library salaries where provided directly to the researcher, but in most instances, the researcher relied on open data regarding state salaries to estimate and include data. This data should not be taken as perfect data, but as best estimated data using current staff member positions and names combined with university or college pay scales. Salary Comparisons: The first tab of this spreadsheet contains hand-keyed data comparing estimated salaries for library deans, library directors, librarians, library assistant IIs, and library assistant Is at geographical peer institutions. Salary Model: The second tab of this spreadsheet contains preliminary work to create a multilinear regression model to determine salary starting points at geographical peer institutions in the state of Oklahoma. Color Coded Salary Model: The third tab of this spreadsheet contains salary averages, position ranking within each library from 1-7 with 1 representing those closest to a library assistant position and 7 representing library deans or dean-type roles, and Excel formulas to represent each geographical peer on a line graph by color. Graphs: The fourth and final tab of this spreadsheet includes all graphs generated within the spreadsheet itself. The report associated with this dataset encompasses preliminary research, data, and statistics collected to discuss the role of McFarlin Library in the University of Tulsa's 2022 strategic initiatives. Data was gathered through publicly-available sources, such as the U.S. News and World Report rankings of colleges and universities within the United States, information gathered from websites of libraries within that ranking, and cost estimations from publicly-available sources. This project includes unpublished documents containing rudimentary ideas regarding the role of McFarlin Library in the University of Tulsa’s Strategic Initiatives. These materials do not represent the views of the University of Tulsa or McFarlin Library at the University of Tulsa, nor does it represent implementation steps, legitimate suggestions, or advice. Those who download and consult this document do so with the understanding that it has not been implemented or consulted by the University of Tulsa’s administration.

    Description

    Context

Overwatch is a 6v6 FPS (first-person shooter) team game with great variety between heroes who can be played as. Overwatch League (OWL) is the professional esports league of Overwatch. When watching the OWL matches this year, I noticed the power-rankings and predictive statistics by IBM Watson extremely intriguing, so I determined to introduce the datasets into Kaggle. I, myself, really want to replicate the predictions and rankings, then testing with the stats lab.

    Content

The datasets include players, head-to-head match-ups, and maps. The player historical statistics should contain OWL games from 2018 till now. It's centered around each player, and player's picked hero, its team name, performance, match IDs, etc.

    Acknowledgements

Overwatch League Stats Lab has updated and downloadable csv files. And here are some interesting and inspiring questions to look at: https://overwatchleague.com/en-us/news/23303225.

    Inspiration

Other than the power rankings and outcome predictions, I plan to look at teamfight stats, first elimination, and first death to compare the team's power.

For Players: 1. Match Report dashboard 2. Rate Ranks dashboard: Who led the league in solo kills/10 mins in 2018 as Junkrat? (min. 60 mins played) 3. Career Totals dashboard 4. Single Records dashboard

For Heroes: 1. Which 4 heroes did one play for 10% or more of his time on assault map attack rounds in the season? 2. Which hero increased in usage from 8% at the end of Stage 4 of 2018 to over 45% in the inaugural season playoffs?

For Matches: 1. Which team played the most matches that ended in a 3-2 score during the 2021 regular season? 2. Which team is entering the 2021 season on a 7-map loss streak? 3. Which team has the fastest completion time on Rialto?

    Description

What are the most-watched news networks? In November 2023, Fox News was the most watched cable news network in the United States and continues to do well in terms of its primetime audience, with **** million primetime viewers in that period. Fox News viewers in the 25-54 demographic amounted to *** thousand, whilst MSNBC had just *** thousand. When looking at Fox News viewers compared to CNN, the overall average number of primetime viewers was notably different. CNN has been losing viewers in recent years, although during the coronavirus outbreak, tended to pull in a larger audience than usual. Which cable news channel has the most viewers in prime time? Performing well during the mid-evening prime time slot on cable television is the goal of any network that takes its ratings seriously.Cable news networks like Fox, CNN, and MSNBC are engaged in a monthly battle to hit the top spot during primetime and grab the highest cable news ratings during those precious evening hours. Fox News ratings during primetime are generally higher than its two direct competitors, and was the top channel for watching the State of the Union Address in 2020. What is prime time TV? Primetime television is the time at which the audience peaks, and in the United States usually takes place between 8pm and 11pm. TV networks show their most sought after or successful programs during this time, and this slot is where advertisers like to spend their money in order to maximize the number of viewers who will see their products. In fact, many of the most-watched news shows like Hannity or The Rachel Maddow Show which debate news coverage from a particular point of view, draw in massive audiences each month, ultimately contributing to the overall ratings of the network they belong to.
